I would kindly disagree. I have been in them when I used to smoke and they are bad even for the hard core smokers. Can’t breathe, not enough air flow. I know some people on here will say well if they want to smoke, oh well, go into that room. But it’s wrong.
I think the best solution is still in open air. The Disney parks are some of the biggest parks in the world. Numerous spots out of the way, and I mean a long way where others would not even know there was smoking going on. One or two in each park would be fine. They had one before pandora opened, down a long walkway that was perfect. The one behind ToT is a good one. For some reason Disney has put them close to others who don’t smoke. The solution is easy, they don’t seem to want to do it which is a whole other topic which has been touched on.

But..........
Putting those in each park would mean an expenditure with no income potential.
And we all know how Lord Iger hates to spend money that doesn't generate income...........
Of course they could call them "Special, Exclusive, Members Only Lounges." and upcharge a C note or two to become a member.

The general consensus is that there are 260 work days per year (in the USA) not including holidays/vacation. Let's assume 10 holidays and 10 vacation days (two weeks vacation).

20m x 240d = 4,800m. 4,800m / 60m = 80h or 3.33d. So... Nope.

Even if you smoked every day for 20m you'd still only come out to 5.07d.

People CLEARLY smoke like chimneys on the weekends, holidays and vacations.

I have family members who smoke like chimneys.. We're talking almost 5 packages PER DAY.

I'm not sure that MJ doesn't have more to do with it. Right now, tobacco smoking is illegal in certain places, but otherwise it's up to a property owner setting rules. It is not illegal for those over a certain age to possess or smoke in designated areas - only if you violate the rules will you be asked to leave, and you have no legal recourse. The owner cannot have you arrested for violating an owner imposed rule unless you refuse to abide it.

However, MJ IS illegal unless you have a medical license to use it - which is a different conversation; I'm already seeing ads for "Get Your Medical License Here!" .
How would a CM know if you are legally using it? He/she would have to ask to see your license. A CM selling alcohol can control sales - no license showing you can legally purchase it, no sale, but they have no control over the sale and use of MJ, so would have to go around each smoking area asking for licenses. If no license, security would have to be notified as the guest would be breaking the law - not just a park rule.

Wouldn't it be much easier for WDW to have smokers right next to security so a CM would not have to wait to resolve the issue? And would someone who is breaking the law hang around until security/police show up?

But that still just sounds like bad management to me. Why are these employers letting their employees just have a break free for all? I guess I'll say again that I work in an office with thousands of employees (corporate headquarters of a Fortune 50). Every employee is entitled to two 15 minute rest breaks and one 30-60 minute meal break each day. If they take additional breaks, or take extra time on these breaks, they are disciplined.

I still want to know where these offices are that everybody keeps bringing up in here where employees just take as many breaks as they want whenever they want. Other than when I was server in college, I've never seen anything like that at any professional job I've had.

Yeah, I don't know of many jobs that will allow you to take a break whenever you want. The only time I had that freedom when I worked a straight commission sales job and they didn't care if you were on the floor or not since it was your money. It was nice when it got super slow in the summer and we generally were hungry enough to police ourselves when it was busy.

“Decriminalized” does not mean legal. It simply means you get a ticket instead of being arrested.

And even where recreational use is legal... like Seattle, use in public places is technically iilegal.

But it becomes much harder to enforce... and many don’t. I believe this is a premeditated move by Disney to get ahead of the curve

Easily, if there's smoke, there's security escorting them out. It makes it easier for the cast members to not have to deal with the smoke vs vape arguments as well as providing a healthier workplace environment.

I’ve seen an official written response from Disney about this, there will be no punishment, nobody is getting thrown out just a friendly reminder to smoke outside the park

There are specially designed enclosed smokers are with filters and A/C. Unsure what do you mean with "lack of flow".
Its all about the design and how much money they put.

This. The problem is Disney not wanting to spend money on it, imo. When I worked at Fitzgerald's casino in MS, they had a room in the employee cafeteria dedicated for smokers. It was fully windowed and when you opened the door to go into it, you could hear the suction of the fans sucking in the air for filtration. It was just as clean in there as it was in the rest of the area and those folks got their fix.

I think though that Disney is more concerned with the latter.

Given the propensity of whacky tobaccy in colleges, how effective is the policy at UCF against pot being lit up?

I can remember back in high school (60's) smoking in the bathroom and ditching the butt in the toilet when a teacher would walk in to check. Wonder how many smokers will be sneaking a smoke in the bathroom. Brings to mind the Motley Crue song "Smoking in the boys room" If I was still a smoker I could relive my high school days at WDW

I definitely believe people will smoke in the bathrooms. I don't smoke anymore, but if I did and they took away the smoking spots in the parks I would go into the bathrooms. If a person wants to smoke they will, no matter where they are.

Considering that that spot wasn't the original smoking location...

It used to be across from the popcorn cart closer to Figment.

That was a horrible spot for a DSA. You could not walk that way at all without getting a lungful of smoke. Plus smokers tend to spread out away from the ashtrays and many would be right off of the pathway.
