As a nonsmoker who can’t stand the smell, I actually feel the same way. This will indirectly encourage people to light up anywhere, and there isn’t enough security to enforce the rule.I don’t smoke.
I cannot stand the smell of smoke.
But this is insanity.
It will result in both people lighting up all over the place (they already do, but now there is greater incentive to do so) as well as people getting angrier and angrier due to lack of nicotine.
Repeat offenders and people that refuse. It will be no different than dealing with other rule breakers. They'll ask for friendly cooperation but if that doesn't work more aggressive methods of compliance will be invoked. Uncooperative guests usually talk themselves into trespass violations. The objective is to gain compliance with the least amount of hassle for the guest. And, of course, if other guests complain about a smoker then noncompliance becomes a bigger issue.Disney has already stated that a CM will simply ask the person to go to the correct smoking area. Just as it is now. There will be no roving "smoking patrols" roaming the parks. That is a long stretch from trespassing people.
Well, of course, it is a bigger issue. And anyone that never smoked is in no position to be critical of someone that does because, frankly, they have no idea what that person is going through. Self, imposed, yes, of course, but, so is heroin addiction but we practically fall all over ourselves to help someone with that addition, yet, when it comes to nicotine addiction it just... tough crap, stay home if they have a problem. I know because of the easy access and the years and years of acceptance of smoking, everyone's opinion is that all they have to do is quit. No problem. And I have to wonder if someone else is smoking out of the way and that hinders your ability to enjoy well themed attractions and show, then you have a bigger issue then they do, just in the other side.Isolated? I don't recall the entrance to Adventureland being isolated. Or the walkway by the wishing well. Or the pathway next to Space Mountain. Or the area between CoP and Space. or the path coming from the Mexico pavilion to the Odyssey bathroom, etc, etc.
Cigarette smoke is nasty and many people have allergic reactions to it and it can mess with asthmatics. Again, smoking on private property isn't a right and if not being able to smoke hinders your ability to enjoy well themed attractions and shows, you have a bigger issue than my rejoicing in this ban.
Very well put. Took many pages of yelling and ignorance to get to your post. Well done.Well, of course, it is a bigger issue. If there are no truly out of the way places for people to smoke, out in the open air with the wind blowing, that is Disney at fault. They could have made places that weren't on the beaten track but they were to lazy or cheap or both. Both could exist peacefully if both sides just tried a little. And no one would feel a need to be rejoicing at the pain of others.
I don't drink or want to see drunks, so I would like to see alcohol completely taken out of any park in WDW. Wouldn't that be fair?
There is no way to avoid that smoking area as you’re exiting thunder mountain. Some of the areas are literally right next to a walking path. But as I’ve said some people are more affected by it than others.I’m not a smoker and after visiting all the parks not once have I smelled the smoking area. We just avoid it. May be the best way
Assuming this is a genuine question, the answer is that if you spend a whole day in MK,you are probably adding 2.5 miles of walking to your smoking-area visits (assuming 4 or 5 smokes in a 10-12 period) on top of the 6 miles you are probably already doing to tour the park over a full day, particularly as the train is not working at the moment because of construction, so you can't hitch a ride to the front of the park. This is just the MK. Similar distances will also apply at EPCOT and AK.
But they are also planning to implement this at the waterparks. Given that they are unlikely to let you exit with the rental towels wrapped around you, your choice as a smoker is to exit the park in your swimwear only or take a trip to your locker and get dressed every time you smoke. And again, over a full-day, for many smokers this may be 4 or 5 times in the course of a day.
Of course, you always have the choice of taking your business and money elsewhere.
I was pretty surprised by that when I visited ten years ago. I even made a short video about it:
Great. If we can decide to ignore whatever rules we want, I’m not paying a resort parking fee.
There is a solution..... .If you find a way around it.......let me know. I’m in
They can get wet. You can even swim with a patch. No problem - Nicotine Patch .
Oh wait.... you will be in water, with hundreds of other people.... .
Yup, exactly right. CMs will merely point out that you can't smoke there. Nothing more, nothing less.A CM is not going to escort the person to a designated smoking area, nor will they take down any information on the person. That is not their job. If a person gets stupid with it, I can see an action being taken, but for the average guest it will be handled the same as it is now. The end result will be more work for CMs and more smoking where it doesn't belong.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Sentinal reported that there will be no punishments. In reality it becomes self policing after awhile. No one thought, years ago, that banning smoking in restaurants would work either. Non-smokers will rat out the smokers and first time offenders will just be asked to stop smoking. Repeat offenders or people who refuse will be trespassed by Disney as they do with other rule breakers. It will work out just fine.

The locations of the smoking areas aren't the smokers' fault though...that's all on Disney. They don't really give a squat...this is just a big PR move that's going to blow up in their faces when the rule breakers just start lighting up everywhere. There is no way to avoid that smoking area as you’re exiting thunder mountain.
