Small World Refurb in August

Except that I see this as our only vacation to WDW with 5 small children. Shouldn't MY vacation be free of IASW refurbishment?:animwink: This is such a critical must-see for us.

We are going in late September. We ride this at least once just to experience it but sometimes more if we want AC and the line is short. It is now our favorite ride but I do look forward to the refurb. It needed some TLC in there. If they add Disney characters I think that will be interesteing. Something new to see in that ride can be a good thing.

Is this refurb to keep the boats from jammin up at the end of the attraction and keeping us locked in IASW hell. Its a great ride, but when youre stuck with the music over and over, its time to go.

Yes that is wrong.

The refurb won't have any show changes, a lot of infrastructure work, and boosting load/unload efficiency.

It's kind of strange that after the most recent refurbishment, attendance at "it's a small world" seemed to pick up. Is this a fabrication created by a lowered operational capacity, or did the demand actually pick up? Pirates of the Caribbean also seemed to experience this.

With "it's a small world", I actually think this would be an attraction that could utilize Fastpass pretty effeciently on busy days. I assume that's not in the cards, but I do feel it could work.

All the talk of lower operational capacity was largely nonsense invented by a few members of the anti-WDW brigade that hang around internet sites. The reality of it, is that most of WDW attarctions have hit record through-put in recent times. MK in particular has been working very hard and doing everything they can to push through more guests per hour. They are constantly looking at tweeking things, and making large scale changes, like the new dock at Splash, Pirates, and now the upcoming changes to Small World.

I guess I was probably in the minority that wanted them to refurb this like they did in DisneyLand to add in characters. From the pics that I have seen they did a pretty good job over there.

Someone spotted a glass plate with an iasw design that specificaly says WDW and includes the characters (in Mary Blair theme)... Just sayin'. I'm still hopeful that it happens, it's amazing in DL.

I'm joining you in the minority. They didn't just do a pretty good job, they did an AMAZING job. It added so much more show scenes and theming to the ride - amazing, simply put. (especially I'd you actually get to see it in person)

Thanks for providing some sanity to the discussion.

Whilst it isn't likely, they could add the characters to the ride like in DL and HKDL, it is an interesting twist, and even myself, as a 27 year old guy found it fun looking for the characters... "Look, it's Woody!!" and "Is that Mulan??"

I feel I may have just opened the flood-gates for a torrent of abuse from die hard IASW fans, but its time for a change!!

WDI has already told the LA Times that it won't be adding Disney characters during this refurb. Of course, we all know that what Disney says and what it actually does can sometimes be two different things. :)

It's a ride that my partner and I both love. For Gabby, it always reminds her of being a little kid and visiting WDW with her mom. For me, it just reminds me of all of the great times that Gabby and I have shared at WDW.

Since it will be our anniversary trip this year, yeah, I will miss it, but I am hoping to go sometime next year, after the MK 40th birthday and I can ride it again then with my honey.

DL did a great job with those. I was VERY skeptical about adding those characters because I thought for sure it would look cheesy. The characters are very subtle and in the same style as the pre existing dolls. You probably wouldn't even notice they're in there unless you knew to look for them. It becomes kind of a cool scavenger hunt when you ride it and look for them.

I look forward to an improved unloading. Slow loading does not seem near as bad as the slow unloading, I guess its the anticipation of the ride makes it easier to accept.

OMG this is the worst! :hammer: I hate it when this happens.

You sure they are not adding a gift ship...:lookaroun

If they actually had a shop with IASW-specific merch, I would like to see it. But that won't happen

Disney builds in this "stacking" of boats into the ride on purpose. It helps hourly capacity, and I assume the thought process is, people are less likely to be agitated on the boat then waiting to get on the boat.
