I was in the basement just a few seconds ago fabricating aan aluminum chassi for one of my radio controlled trucks. Well while drilling the bit snapped and made a gaping hole in my thumb nale. :veryconfu Think this is serious? I've managed to stop the bleeding but dont want to show my mom b/c I'm positive she would pass out..

Thank you! :)

Umm.. Ok. Josh, maybe you should stay away from the power tools. :)

Seriously, you should keep an eye on that just to be sure.

Did you find all of the pieces of the bit? How long did it bleed? I would clean the area thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide or betadine...something like that. Keep an eye on it...at the first sign of swelling or redness, you might have to get it looked at. I can't really evaluate it without seeing it (in person...please don't scan your thumb!) When in doubt, see a doctor!

BTW, drilling through finger and toenails is a standard treatment for hematomas under the nail.....my husband would get them under his big toenail from playing squash, and either he or I would sterilize a drill bit , put a little novacaine in, and drill into it! They hurt so much that the drilling was actually a relief. ;)

(Aren't you glad you don't live at my house? ;) )

Do you consult a doctor for every little cut bruise or scrape you get?? I sure as hell don't...I mean the soldering iron burn healed just fine on its own!

Josh..as an artist..you should take EVERY injury..no matter how small...to your hands very seriously....A hole in your thumb, if gotten infected, would greatly ruin your drawing skills I am sure ;)

Wisdom Teeth?

Well, your pretty sharp for someone who just got their wisdom teeth pulled!

The way you are describing it, it sounds really nasty! I hate using the word "hole" to describe a cut! It makes it sound really :hurl: !

What does it look like now?
