On our honeymoon last July, My wife and I rode the monorail on our way to Victoria & Albert's. We wer the only people getting on in the Comtemporary and we hopped right on in.

It felt like a limosine "in the sky." :)

We also pretty much had CMs saying, "I know where you're going." since my wife was in a nice dress and I was in a full suit.

I always aim for the front of any & all roller coaster and TOT!! :D

Any coaster enthusiast will tell you the best seats are all the way in the back. Only time you should be choosing the front is in an inverted coaster like Dueling Dragons. Other than that, back row has the best effects.

:hammer: <G> jcmayid... guess you told me... anyhow, I never said I was a rollercoaster enthusiast, and the thread was about the front of the mono-rail... so I was just commenting on my personal preference... it's still the front of any rollercoaster...

There are a lot of insane people in the world. Hijacking as in--flooring the monorail to its top speed (roughly 40 miles per hour) right into a monorail stopped at the next station. Imagine--people are boarding that monorail, so they are sent flying, and guests in the other train are hurt. It can happen, and again, that is why no guests ride up front at Disneyland, now. I think in an era where people fly planes into buildings, something of this nature should not seem out of the question, or funny like some of you are acting it is. It may be funny until you are on that monorail...

I thought monorails had safety cutoffs when a monorail gets to close to another or is going too fast at certain points.

Yes they do, but theirt are ways ariound it that drivers know. How else do that park the monorails so close to eachother on the station at night.

  I thought they would drive them in their at 40 mph and throw on the brakes at the last second--kinda like playing chicken. If you smash the train in front of you, it comes out of your paycheck.

I was told the same thing about safety features not allowing the train to exceed a certain speed and you would think the same thing applies to speed pulling into a building or station. If I was terrorist, I could come up with a better plan than ramming monorails at a theme park.

Not to mention that if you were the moron to hijack the monorail, you'd probably only succeed in jacking yourself enough so that you couldn't run from the security that would already be on its way to intercept you from the station that you jacked the monorail at.
:hammer:
Then again, there's the bank robber who cut himself breaking into the bank and called 911 for help.....????:hammer: :hammer:

Can't be done. The MAPO system would initiate a full emergency stop well before the trains got close. In fact, we test this twice daily. We'll have a train attempt to get too close to anothr train. I dont think there has ever been a malfunction of the computer to not stop the train.

There is a way to override it, however, train speed is limited to P1... very slow. There would be plenty of time to either kill power (which initiates a full emergency stop), or move the other train out of the way.

I learned you could do this before my solo trip back in October.. so I just had to do it.. the best part though was while waiting up in the special loading area I noticed a woman with two small kids waiting to get on the monorail, so I asked if it was just the three of them, she said yes, and I invited them to ride in the front with me. The looks on the two kids faces was priceless. Just another magical Disney moment.
