Single Riders line-Pushing it?

The two older kids went by themselves, and then she tells the CM that he's like only 3 or 4 and he needs to ride with his mom. So the CM lets those two people go. I felt like saying something but refrained from it. CMs who hand out the Single Rider tickets need to make sure any small children need to ride by themselves or don't ride at all.

This bugs the heck out of me! I'm often a single rider on nearly everything at WDW, so I love to use the single riders line. But this last trip at Test Track the singles line was almost as long as the regular line, full of parties of 3 and 4 and 6, etc. I was the only *single* single rider I could detect for at least 10 people ahead and behind. It wouldn't have bothered me too much except that in the queue after the preshow room 3 people pushed ahead of me and the people in front of me to join the rest of their party 5 people up--annoying enough in a regular line, but extremely annoying when the party is expected to split up anyway.

One time I was in the TT single line and when it came to boarding a little boy started bawling and wailing when it came the time to split him up from the group. The family tried to pull a fast one and were shown the exit by a CM. That is as it should be.

I don't see where having one person in your party sitting alone on a ride is "better" than sharing a bench/car with a stranger. He/she still won't be "sharing" the experience with the rest of the group.

I suppose you might get an especially unpleasant person next to you, but it's only for a few minutes. Once you get off the ride, you don't have to see that person again. (Just make sure you go in the opposite direction. ) Just think, it could be a flight, and you'd be stuck with this person for hours!

It might even give you something to talk about later. :animwink:

the thing i dont get is that disney is trying to promote magical gatherings, where a large group of people are together, key word together, and now theyre adding single lines that may split em up??

You dont have to go in the single rider line! If you want to experience more attractions you'll do that or fast pass, it just gives people more options in how they can experience the attractions at WDW

Here's a thought. For those people that are absolutely terrified of strangers, or are anti social, or seem to think they and their family or friends are a microcosm unto themselves, or simply feel they are entitled to sit by themselves, tell the cast member at the front that because you were kind, patient and understanding enough to stand in a long line, you deserve to be seated without a stranger.

I've no doubt the cast member would be more than happy to accomodate and cater to your personal needs.

Come on, folks. Be realistic. The world may be a more difficult place to live in, but it's the incredibly small minority that are pedophiles, psychokillers or freaks that some seem to think lurk behind every dark corner. And it's the tiny minority that smell God forbid. And sweat? Bring a friggin' hand towel and wipe yourself off. 'Cause believe me, if that stranger next to you is sweating, you can bet you have a trickle or two of perspiration beading on your perfect brow.

I think the single rider's lines are great! The past two times that I've gone down to Florida, I have gone with my mom and my cousin. We have gone in the summer so lines for major rides are usually at least an hour. We have no regrets about splitting up for a few minutes. We like each other and all, but we don't need to go on every ride together. I rather split up for a short time and experience more rides, instead of staying together and going on less rides.

When I went to Universal this past summer, my cousin and I rode MIB twice by using the SRL. It took us 15 minutes each time, from entering the building to getting off the ride. Had we waited in the standby line to go together, we wouldn't have made it out of the queue in that time. Plus, going separately gave each of us a chance to win - and we did. :D

True, not every ride needs a SRL. PotC, JIIWF, and Jungle Cruise would be inefficient. The Hall of Presidents, the Indy Speedway, or the movies in WS would be absurd to have a SRL. However, rides that have lengthy waits (like Splash Mountain or Space Mountain) could use a SRL.

As for those that don't want to sit next to a stranger... What's wrong with sitting next to someone you don't know? Everybody is a stranger to you at some point. Maybe you're sitting in Splash Mountain next to someone and start up a conversation. Boom!, a new buddy. In a way, my family used the SRL to fly down to Florida. We arrived at JFK extra early and were given the chance to go down to MCO on an earlier flight. It did mean that we had to split up and take "single seats" on the plane. There was no real problem in this. I didn't talk to the people near me (I'm a shy guy), but I didn't feel at all uncomfortable. Not to sound rude, but if you cannot handle being around strangers, then maybe a place as crowded as WDW is not for you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I think the single rider line is a good idea. For example, say you ride SM once with your party and used a FP or waited in stand-by for an hour, then you decide you want to ride it again, I'd just jump in the single rider line, wait a few minutes and go again.

My bf and I use the single rider line at Blizzard Beach for the ski lift all the time- and that's sitting next to a stranger in your bathing suit! -Stephanie

I go to Disney all the time by my self and before there was a single riders I still sat next to a stranger and that person still sat next to me! If this was a problem we would have been talking about how it is wrong to put a person at the world who is by him/her self with a family! Now that there is a single riders line it just gives you something to complain about! The fact is that the world has been putting strangers together since it opened and no ones cared but now that they have made it easier it is something that is very wrong and should not happen.

The single rider lines are ingenius in my opinion... I'm usually at the parks with my grandma and she cannot ride thrill rides due to heart problems. So single rider lines enable me to ride the rides I want to with a (usually) signifcantly lower wait time and still have time to do the stuff she wants me to do with her.

If you don't like sitting next to strangers, then request to have your own row (like on Splash), or just wait in the standby line. This is Disney, folks, not Six Flags... They'll be happy to accomodate your requests. Courtesy... number two, right after Safety.

Hey, I 've got an idea.

If you dont want to share the ride vehicle with a total stranger then do this:

By an extra park hopper so that your odd number group of 5 has 6 tickets. Then at every attraction just show the CM the 6th ticket and tell them your imaginary friend will be accompanying you on the ride.

Exactly! I'm sure guests waiting in line will have more disgusted looks on their faces when they see an empty seat on a ride in motion. Think about how you feel when you go into a restaurant and there is a 45 minute wait when you can see 4 tables open!

Disney will try to fill up every seat, no matter what, to hurry the line along. That's the main reason for the Single Rider line.

And as Niteobsrvr said: But an extra ticket if you dissagree. That way you will have the seat to yourself.

Allright, stop acting like I'm like scared of sitting next to strangers...Everyone in Walt Disney World does, everyone is friendly, and I'm fine with it...in fact I enjoy sitting next to strangers....just not on certain rides. I'm sorry I don't enjoy sharing my small little seat on Splash Mountain...I was mostly bringing up the point for families. I can't tell you how many times my 14 year old has had to go on rides with a stranger, and she felt very uncomfortable. I understand why single riders like the line, I was simply bringing up the point for families, and how it might be uncomfortable for a younger child (NOT an adult) to sit next to a complete stranger...thats all.

Happy New Year to all:)

But the thing is that if you went on that ride before there was a single riders line and you sat by your self and the person behind you was by him self you would still be put with that person. Getting rid of the single riders line doesn't change anything! It's the fact that made it easier for this to happen that gets you mad. It wouldn't mater if there is a single riders line or not, IT WOULD STILL HAPPEN

Hhhhhmmmmmmmmm, maybe we should have unofficial "Smelly WDW Day". The rules would be (1) you cannot wash your hair or bathe (2) you have to wear the clothes you wore to the park yesterday (including the socks) (3) no brushing of the teeth (4) and most importantly NO DEODORANT. Then you would have to ride only in the single rider lines with the sole intention of offending someone. :lookaroun I just grossed myself out.

Only kidding. If you go to WDW in the summer, most peoples deo is ineffective by 9am - even your own family members. So the smelly person you are sitting next to may not even be a stranger.

I'm with everyone else, I like talking to strangers - that's part of my WDW enjoyment. I don't mind, bring it on!! b/t/w - I don't use the single rider line because my daughter wants to ride with me, but when there is three in our party I'm usually the one to ride with the SBL person. "Hi where you from, how long are you here for......................"

Happy New Year Everyone!!! Be safe - don't drink and drive!!!

Allright, I see how you might disagree and like the single riders line. Thanks everyone for their opinion. I just diagree, and I think it's a little different when it comes to younger kids, and how they might unfcomfortable...But thank you all for your input and have a Happy New Year:)

If the parent were that worried about their child riding with a stranger, then they themselves should be the single rider and not the child. Not too hard to fix here. :hammer:

Well.....MOST of the time that's true. But I don't think Mark (CM) on Space Mountain got the memo on that. (see thread entitled "Rude Space Mountain CM...AGAIN")
