any chance they'll stop shoving him down our throats. For example, will they put the shpiel on the monorails back to normal anytime soon?

I was hoping when the monorail track was edited to include Pirates that Stitch would go, but unfortunately it's still there.

I liked Stitch before I got to Disney World and now I see that he's everywhere... It's like he's repacing Mickey and that's just wrong! I wish Disney stopped doing it.

The pirate theme is definately big, but pale in comparision to Stitch. Someone told me they were asked where "Stitch's Pirate Adventure" was (no lie). I thought to myself "Honestly, that's probably next..." The baby Disney characters fad is still around, and I wouldn't mind seeing that fade out asap. At first it was cute, but seeing CM's lanyards plastered in only baby Goofy's and Dale's needs to be changed...

I just recently returned from my WDW trip, though I still haven't had the time to post my trip report and the little things I've noticed around the parks (I'll try to do that tomorrow), but I could not believe the degree to which Stitch was integrated with every facet of the park. I have no problem with Disney heavily marketing Stitch alone, or Stitch with Lilo or other people from the movie, but I am utterly disgusted by the fact that Stitch is now marketed with what I consider to be the Disney Five of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. The worst part is that, on many t-shirts and balls and hats, Stitch has completely replaced Minnie. I was able to find loads of merchandise that purely had Stitch, but I found nothing at all that had Mickey, Goofy, Donald, and Pluto together WITHOUT Stitch. I think its ridiculous because Stitch is not nearly as old of a character, nor as popular, as these, yet they throw him into everything. I honestly believe that the reason Stitch is just shoved down everyone's throats is because Disney realized how utterly lame SGE is (and thats not coming from a Stitch-hater, at least someone who wasn't a Stitch-hater before getting to WDW, or someone who loved Alien Encounter, just from someone who enjoys good attractions). I think the thought process very well might have been that, if everyone sees Stitch all over the place, they might just think that they are missing the point of SGE or that it must be better than it seems because, well, everyone must love Stitch. The fact is that Stitch is overmarketed, and I think Disney will suffer for it, as no one in my family got any souvenirs in Disney because we couldn't get anything with our favorite characters and NOT Stitch, and I really doubt we are the only ones.

I like Stitch! He makes me laugh. Let's not hate on Stitch. Iam 36 years old- so he is not just for kids either.

I like Stitch alright. He's not my fave but i don't hate him either.

What people have to realize is that they do this with every new character that comes along and does decently well, and then add on top of that the fact that there is a new ride that revolves around this character. They have done the exact same thing with many many past Disney characters. These characters are in no way shape or form taking the place of Mickey and pals, they are just sharing the limelight for a few months.

Once the newness wears off, they won't be able to sell nearly as much merchandise bearing the likeness of the newest character and they will go back to pushing the tried and true favorites. It's the way it's always been. The fact is, there are a few people who will be annoyed by it, but way way more who not only don't mind it, but will also buy into it and spend their money on all the new Stitch stuff, thinking it's the new thing, so they've GOT to have it.

It's a little frustrating for older loyal repeat visit, WDW goers because they hate seeing a fly by night character swooping in and invading everything, but it's a very smart move on Disney's marketing dept when it comes to selling merchandise. Just remember that they aren't trying to replace anyone and that this too shall pass. :D

Actually, I just back from WDW too and I saw a bunch of stuff without stitch on it. There were plenty of shirts. Maybe you didn't look in the same places as me. I personally really like stitch. I like SGE, but that is also due to the fact that i hated Alien Encounter. I think that they really have stopped promoting him as much as they used to. Right now, it seems like they are promoting Nemo a lot with the ride and the musical. That is just my thoughts.

i totally agree! i was there in feb and found lots of items with out stitch on! i mean come on the larger shops arnt just coverd with stitch they usaully have a corner or a section in the shop 4 him!
and this isnt coming from a stitch lover, im fed up of him- even though i do find him funny, its just my younger sister is obssed so i get my fair share of stitch at home! the only things i cane remember marketing stitch id WDW in feb was him speaking on the monorail (which i found pretty cute) and the stuff in the shops- and arnt most of the characters items on sale in the shops :brick:
Disney have done a clever thing using stitch as he is a naughty character but is still loved so he can get up to lots of things in the parks etc that other characters coudlnt
anyway thats my view!

Yeah and Mission to Mars and Mission Space are almost the exact same attractions as well

No, I'm serious. I've been on both, and I really can't see what people are getting in an uproar about. To be frank, both were/are rather subpar as far as an attraction go, and use the same techniques and thematic elements between the show. The only major difference is the audio and the AA.

Now, personally, I think AE fits better in Tomorrowland than SGE does. I think it would have been smarter to retro fit the Astro Orbiter with the spaceship that Stitch steals in the movie and flies to Earth, rather than changing the only truly unique attraction in Tomorrowland (Encounter.) But, as I said, it's a non issue to me as both were/are pretty much blah in my book.

So SGE uses the exact same storyline and characters as AE? I didn't realize that ;). Sounds Dangerous also uses binural sound, so I guess it is just like AE/SGE also isn't it?

The show building layout is the same and they both have a similar "alien loose in the theater" set up, but the execution of the story, the characters, and the use of the effects COULD NOT be any more different.

Do you think that Pirates of the Caribbean and It's A Small World are basically the same because they both are boat rides that sail through AA show scenes?

If you didn't like either attraction that is fine, but they are two extremely different attractions aimed for different audiences.

I'd argue this point, actually. I'd challenge you to find a character that's as popular as Stitch out of the newest generation of Disney movies (Hercules - Brother Bear). Just like the previous generation (Mermaid - Hunchback), they marketed the heck out of Timon and Pumbaa, who were the most unique and memorable characters out of those movies.

Stitch is the same - for a new generation of kids who's only experiences are movies like Atlantis, Mulan (which I love), Hercules (Which is my second favorite Disney movie), and Lilo & Stitch (my personal favorite - and I'm 27!) - Stitch is the character that stands out to them and who they identify with as a symbol of Disney.

The fab 5 will always be Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto - but it's a challenge for a new generation to identify with these characters, especially when they're hardly ever shown on television. Sure, there's House of Mouse on Disney, but even that is buried between different shows like Kim Possible or Baby Einsteins that kids are more interested in watching.

Stitch is all over the place - TV, movies, DVD, video games - he's their version of what Mickey was for older generations, or what Gargoyles, Gummy Bears, Tale Spin, DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, and Darkwing Duck were for my generation - icons that I love and want to see when I go to the parks. Heck, last time I was at Animal Kingdom and saw a Launchpad McQuack character doing autographs and pictures, I immediately grabbed my wife and made her take a picture of the two of us together. :)

In 20 years, we'll all be complaining that Zapchar, the star of Disney's newest movie, will be the main focus at the parks, and that he's taking over Space Ranger Spin and making it Zapchars Rip Roarin Blast Fest or something like that.
