since stitch isn't so new anymore...

The show building layout is the same and they both have a similar "alien loose in the theater" set up, but the execution of the story, the characters, and the use of the effects COULD NOT be any more different.

Actually, I clarified in my post you quoted that what I find similar is the techniques and thematic elements - I'd never presume to say that AE and SGE were the same thing (despite the fact that I may have said that in a previous post - thinking before typing and whatnot).

Like I said though, I don't find anything right or wrong with either ride, simply because I think they're both mediocre. That's the beautiful part of Disney though - we may disagree on what we think is right or wrong with a particular ride, but we can always agree that the place as a whole is Magic, rough spots and all. :)

I'd argue this point, actually. I'd challenge you to find a character that's as popular as Stitch out of the newest generation of Disney movies (Hercules - Brother Bear). Just like the previous generation (Mermaid - Hunchback), they marketed the heck out of Timon and Pumbaa, who were the most unique and memorable characters out of those movies.

Stitch is the same - for a new generation of kids who's only experiences are movies like Atlantis, Mulan (which I love), Hercules (Which is my second favorite Disney movie), and Lilo & Stitch (my personal favorite - and I'm 27!) - Stitch is the character that stands out to them and who they identify with as a symbol of Disney.

The fab 5 will always be Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto - but it's a challenge for a new generation to identify with these characters, especially when they're hardly ever shown on television. Sure, there's House of Mouse on Disney, but even that is buried between different shows like Kim Possible or Baby Einsteins that kids are more interested in watching.

Stitch is all over the place - TV, movies, DVD, video games - he's their version of what Mickey was for older generations, or what Gargoyles, Gummy Bears, Tale Spin, DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, and Darkwing Duck were for my generation - icons that I love and want to see when I go to the parks. Heck, last time I was at Animal Kingdom and saw a Launchpad McQuack character doing autographs and pictures, I immediately grabbed my wife and made her take a picture of the two of us together. :)

In 20 years, we'll all be complaining that Zapchar, the star of Disney's newest movie, will be the main focus at the parks, and that he's taking over Space Ranger Spin and making it Zapchars Rip Roarin Blast Fest or something like that.

Just wanted to pat you on the back because this post is sheer brilliance.

Aww, man, I forgot about the Stitch audio on the monorail. I've heard it before, but still. Now I'm bummed.

I'm not going to get all into whether or not he should be in the parks as much as he is, but I will say that I'm really not into him. I've just never really seen what the draw is. :( Oh well, to each their own - but IMO, the only "person/character" who should be on the monorail is the Monorail Guy. :animwink:

Well at least they got rid of most of the Stitch audio on the monorail. IIRC, the only Stitch thing left is "We're here! WE'RE HERE!!!". I think. The spiel about stitch's great escape is definitely gone.

:) Blame the society we live in. Stitch appeals to the new generation of kids and Disney is taking advantage of that. I personally like Stitch, although the ride is one of the worst in Disney, but his mannerisms and attitude are very similar to a lot of the kids of the present day. Stitch is the face of 21st century Disney.

stitch is in the magic kingdom day parade now.

and is anybody else bugged by the fact that he refers to himself as Stitch and not Experiment 626 in the attraction. Acording to the time the attraction takes place he shouldn't even know anything about the name stitch.

I have no problem with Stitch as a character. I agree he is a GREAT character for this current flock of Disney films. However, I think he is a good example of Disney's uber-overmarketing of all things character. They are diluting them too much. Pirates are doing it now. The Princess have in the past. It works great for awhile, but they are turning characters more into fads than they were prior. Of course, the same thing is in music, movies, television, etc. Longevity is not the norm, and the spreadsheets are still going strong in perpetuating that trend. I can't wait until it breaks.
