Silly Symphony Swings

Is the Maliboomer on the way out for certain? I would like to see it stay, if it can be redone as well as SSS.

I think that's still just a rumor at this point. If it does happen, it's expected to be removed later this year in the Fall.

It's astonishing to me how everyone is going so excited over a carnival swing ride! It just goes to prove that for some people, if you slap the Disney name on it, they'll refer to it as "amazing" no matter what it is. And yet, in another thread, people are being blase about the new Harry Potter attraction. :hammer:

They re-themed and rebuilt the entire area around the swings to make it fit the new theme of the Pier, so i'd say it's more than just adding the Disney name to it. This was never meant to be a huge E-Ticket attraction - people are just impressed with the improvements that were made over what used to be a giant Orange. It isn't exactly fair to compare this C-Ticket ride to the new HP attraction.

When you look at what the Orange Stinger entrance looked like, it's easier to understand why people think SSS is "amazing", relatively speaking.

Yep, it looks waaay nicer. Atmosphere accounts for a lot. And what the heck, they are building a ton of other new stuff in this park anyway, so the fact that they could step back from all of that and spruce up a little guy like the swing ride in this manner is very classy.

Exactly. Not all attractions can be E tickets. Cs and Ds are important too. Just check out the beautifully refurbed Mark Twain and Columbia as they ply the newly enhanced Rivers of America over at Disneyland. Respect for quality and tradition is alive and well in Anaheim.

I'm not disagreeing with either of you. I'm just saying it's funny how some people will describe something like this as though it IS an E ticket. It's an improvement, but "amazing" is a little over the top. I mean, let's keep it in perspective. It's still just a carnival swing ride. Dressed up a little more than it was before, but not what I would call "amazing".

I understand what you're saying here. But, bear in mind that many of the original attractions at Disneyland were, and still are, simple carnival rides that have been dressed up. Dark rides, spinning rides, carousels, trains, cars and roller coasters were all staples of carnivals and county fairs long before Disneyland opened it's gates. I don't know that I would call SSS "amazing", but compared to what was there before it's a major improvement. I have to believe that in a few short years, with all of it's additions and improvements, DCA will be considered an "amazing" theme park. Just my 2 cents.

You have to understand the mentality of passionate Disneyland fans in SoCal. There is a massive amount of construction going on all over DCA right now, with more construction walls and demolition of existing structures on the way in late 2010 and 2011. But this swing ride is the first new attraction to open since the 1.2 Billion Dollar DCA extreme makeover was announced back in October, 2007. (Midway Mania doesn't really count for us since construction was well underway when the extreme makeover announcement was made.)

But all of the rest of the DCA extreme makeover stuff is still in structural steel and dusty Anaheim topsoil all behind bright blue construction walls.

This type of product is all we have to go on thus far;

But then this swing ride reopens and it's still just a basic swing ride, yet the finishes and details and extra touches here are just lightyears beyond what it had been from 2001 to 2009. If they are willing to do this for a dumb little swing ride, can you imagine what all-new facilities and attractions like Little Mermaid will be like? Buena Vista Street? Red Car Trolleys? Carthay Circle Theater? Goofy's Sky School? Luigi's Flying Tires? Mater's Junkyard Jamboree? Radiator Springs Racers and Cars Land!?! :eek:

Silly Symphony Swings is like this huge wake-up call that the 1.2 Billion Dollar makeover of nearly the entire park wasn't just a cruel April Fool's Joke. It really is happening!

Silly Symphony Swings has a brand-new attraction poster :) Hopefully they'll do more of these for the other new rides coming to the park.

And just for fun, a look back at the cute opening ceremony for the ride back in June of this year - including a performance by Bandleader Mickey and the DL band!

Had a chance to ride this today. They did a fantastic job with the re-theme; such a huge change from the Orange that used to sit here before. I honestly didn't mind the Orange as much as other people did but I still greatly prefer the new Silly Symphony/boardwalk theme. The new observation deck is a nice touch and a great spot to relax in.

The ride felt so brand-new -- it still smelled like fresh paint and some of it hadn't even dried yet!

Took them a while, but they've finally added posters to the blank walls along the lower level of Silly Symphony Swings! These fun new posters were added this week and they carry the same vintage Mickey theme from the ride - it looks great.
