Sick at Akershus

Had a pretty good breakfast here in January with no problems!

I have been a few times. Lunch and dinner meals are not my cup of tea. Breakfast has always been great! We have never gotten sick. Was disappointed one time when Mary Poppins was there in the place of Snow White, but characters are never guaranteed.

I have eaten in the castle several times as well. As princesses go, Akershus, breakfast is the way to go IMO.

My family of 4 would agree with respect to the dinner.
But the princess experience was great - I'd try for breakfast.

We had the dinner, but you're right - they can't screw up eggs and bacon. :lol:

Regardless, we are going for a late breakfast for my DD to visit with the characters..she has ALREADY picked out a princess dress to wear..and I am sure that will change! :lol:

We never went to the Character meals for the food anyway. We only book them to get into the park early.

I booked Akershus as one of our meals due to the princesses, for my daughter. However, I was just reading the reviews on trip advisor and there were 4 negative reviews from the past 10 days for this restaurant. Complaints ranged from people vomiting all over, to hot dogs that were grey with green spots, to food poisoning. Has anybody eaten here before? Is it truly this bad? Should I cancel and maybe go to Via Napoli and try their evidently out of this world pizza pie? If so, what are some other great places to see the princesses at DW? My daughter loves Aurora. Thanks.

I've never eaten there. But I still feel qualified to comment on the comments you saw.

If someone vomits at a restaurant, it's not because the food they just ate is bad. Think about it. Have you ever vomited right when eating? It's MUCH more likely that the person was already getting sick from some other reason and it's when they were eating at Akershus that it just happened to "come up," so to speak.

Food poisoning. This is just one of those false rumors that just won't go away. People throw around the term "food poisoning" without understanding what they're talking about. Food poisoning has to be diagnosed by a physician, and even then, it's difficult to identify the vector. The other thing about food poisoning, especially at someplace like a restaurant that has only 6 or 7 entrees and thus has food produced in huge batches, if one or two people got food poisoning then 100 or 200 people got food poisoning, and something like that would make the news. People sometimes get sick due to a virus that they came into contact with a few days ago. But you don't ever know when you get a virus inside you. So then you feel ill or vomit or whatever, and you blame the most recent meal you ate. Seriously, food poisoning has to be diagnosed and this usually happens in a hospital.

If you eat dinner at 6 p.m. and you vomit at 11 p.m., it is much more likely you're sick from a virus you picked up from a ride safety bar 48 hours ago, but people often don't understand and instead blame the last meal they ate.

I think he was joking, but be aware, this is why they take a credit card and will charge you if you are a no-show. That's Disney, covering all the angels.

We just ate there on Wednesday, March 30, 2011. The waitress said they had just changed the menu the day before. We had a great meal. The appetizer buffet is the same I believe- cold fish, meats, salads. I had the roasted chicken with farro risotto and herb chicken jus which was the best thing I ate the entire week-long trip. My DD 1 had the mushroom stuffed pasta which was good but swimming in butter. DD 2 had the kids hot dog but she ate mostly from the rest of the family's plates and the buffet. DD had the Kjottkake (beef and pork dumplings) which he said were very close to Swedish meatballs and very tasty. Dessert was a family style selection and not all that special - rice cream, chocolate mousse cake and a princess pillow with a filling that tasted much like the rice cream. Many big-wigs were there supervising, we did not wait long at all to be seated, saw 5 princesses swiftly and in succession, DD 2 had portrait with Belle and participated in the princess procession, our service was excellent and food piping hot.
