Hey there
I started on the beginning of this thread, the fading posters and read quickly through to maintenance or lack there of.
..
Where the posters fading colors is concerned, ( and I think the dark reds are primarlily affected but the dark blues and such really get beat up too ) it is a problem when in the sun as the pigment fades from the bright sunlight, I don't know if it is the UV or some other element of the suns rays but it really can take that sharp color and make it look dull.
.. There is a process now to print pictures or poster sized prints off of a printer type machine only it will print HUGE sheets. They use a tougher printing paper and when I asked, they said the ink is supposed to be UV safe or, will WITHSTAND FADING from the suns rays. You can print up anything, anysize and is available almost anywhere they have this equipment. AND anyone can print this up from a Picture file. If you have family photos or pictures of nature that you want to keep, this is the way to do that. Its worth a test.
.. Now I can't say it will last 10 years because I have not placed a picture "made with this method" outside in the sun but if it lasted longer than what Dis uses now, it could be well worth the effort to try it out.

AIR CONDITIONING.. Did you know that when Walt had AC put in at DISNEYLAND, he INTENDED to blow the cold air outside so when a guest was walking past "in the heat of day" this cool breeze, it would tend to pull them into the store and get a look at all the items for sale??? Walt did this to all the stores. When Walt DisneyWorld first opened, I seem to remember this being the case as well. Did it work? I know I WOULD do a turn and walk into the cool AC store or restaurant area on a hot day. I imagine the AC units had to be huge and expensive. That last word "EXPENSIVE" is definately the reason the stores have been closed off to keep the expensive COLD AIR CONDITIONING inside the stores now.
.. Another non important fact that I remember is, Early EPCOT Center areas did not have doors for entrances but large open areas. One area, a sort of guest help center and had WORLD KEY in it. ( World Key was a communication system that you used like a phone only you could see the Cast Member you were talking to ). This building may have had doors that folded closed but when in operation, the whole side of the building was open. Today a permanent wall has been built with doors. ( World KEY was cool and they should have kept it as they were located at specific areas throughout the park mainstream areas and were life savers for making reservations for attractions or restaurants and general assistance ).

MAINTANANCE is a sore spot with me because over the years, as the bean counters have lowered the work force numbers, less seems to be getting done. Remember about 10 or so years back when Disney land and WDW had a rash of paint pealing, metal supports with VISABLE RUST, and rotting wood on the facades of the building down Mainstreet USA? It was there for more than a year and to get to that state, it had to be ignored for quite a while. Another sad sight was the lighting that runs along the roofs of the buildings down MainStreet USA. At that time, when they turned down the lighting for the parades, you could see thousands of burnt out bulbs. It really looked bad.
.. A couple years later when I was there I saw the lights on the side of the CONTEMPORARY RESORT burnt out in such high numbers that I wondered why they just didn't turn off the power to them.
.. Again a couple years later I was staying at the camp ground. The campground has sparce but adequate post lighting along the roadways. There is no other source of lighting other than the campers. We found 3 loops ( that we looked at ) where most if not all the bulbs were burnt out. And to make this interesting, if you walk along the path heading for the main entrance, Disney has 8' high wooden light poles placed along the pathway. We walked along and found one of those poles had fallen over, laying on the ground, the base rotted away. So I had not been there but a few days, but it looked as if it had lain there for a good amount of time.
.. During my last trip I saw Paint peeling on the Monorails, REALLY?
..
As time goes on, I have seen Disney get less and less proactive and more reactive to problems. They seem to react to present problems and do not consider the resulting situation ( for every action there is a reaction ). One event that occurred that I heard of seemed to fit this senario. If you dare say something you get the normal spiel about how important the guest is and Disney is always upgrading for the Guests Pleasure. But if you follow events going back a few years, there definately seems to be a lack of attention.
..
Think of it this way.... If Disney were doing its job, would Disney Studios be what it is today, a shell?
The Resorts are built for the GUESTS ENJOYMENT and we aren't supposed to find maintenance issues in growing numbers. That has to tell you something.
..
A hot point with me is how they decide to replace attractions, if the do at all, but really, Take out ALIEN ENOUNTER and put in STITCH????? Or destroy what was a working IMAGINE attracton and leave us with what is there now????? Brain FARTS!
... OK, I have to comment on this. The Pet KENNELS. Walts idea was to have a pet kennel conveniently placed at each park entrance and one at the campground. Convenient was so true because at the camp ground, we could walk the dogs to the kennel and leave them for the day and hop on Disney Transport buses. If you were going directly to the Parks by car, you would just park the car and WALK your pet to drop them off at the kennel before entering the park.
.. In recent years, Disneys idea of CONVENIENT has really taken an odd turn.
DISNEY built the new large DISNEY PET CENTER at some remote area and CLOSED ALL THE CONVENIENT pet centers at the Park entrances and at the Camp ground. A guest MUST take the pet to the New Pet Center and you need to stop by daily to check on them. If you are traveling by Car, maybe not such a big deal unless you are going to the Parks from out of town. So can you hop on a Disney TRANSPORT bus to take your pet to the Pet Center, NO. Pets are NOT ALLOWED on Disney TRANSPORT buses. I talked with Disney reps who continued to insist that the new Pet Center was CONVENIENT for the guest. I asked " If I traveled in an RV and I cannot use Disney TRANSPORT buses, will Disney supply convenient transportation to go to the new Disney Pet Center, and of course the convenient answer was NO. Disney will not supply any convenience to transport your pet to the new convenient Disney Pet Center. UGH! Score another BRAIN FART!!
... Did I mention that the old Pet Kennels cost about $10 a night per pet, more or less but the new convenient Disney Pet Center is about 3 times that at least, " per day", "per pet", and..... depending on the size of the pet????
... If you have an experience that is better than what I have found, Let me know so I will be educated but the word CONVENIENCE seems to be eluding DISNEY.
..
Sorry, I know this sounds like a scathing report but I am a super big fan of WALTS parks, unfortunately, they are looking less of what Walt had in mind.
If youre at the park, have a great day, lolol
