I could see why you would chose MK considering it was only a few hours. Similar enough to DL and Just enough time to compare some of the DL attractions and do some of the attractions no longer at DL. Any time spent at any of those other 3 parks and you would have felt unfulfilled IMO.

I think you made the right choice considering the time constraint. I think I would have done the same thing unless it was announced that TOT was being rehtemed in which case I would go to DHS.

It was very difficult for me to consider picking any other park over MK. DHS wasn’t an option at all. If I had visited another park, I know I would have deeply regretted not picking MK. But MK was very underwhelming lol.

I feel ya. My one trip to Orlando I only had time for 2 parks. I too chose MK because it's the castle park and I wanted to compare it to DL, but because I was with younger people they wanted to do DHS for the thrill rides. They were like, "EPCOT is all about food" and DAK was out of the question for them. Maybe one day I'll make it back there.

Yes, I guess it was the familiarity that I wanted. I had to see that castle that everyone talks about.

What did you think of DHS?

It was fun, but there wasn't too much there that you can't get here in California. This was in early 2015, so it was before Galaxy's Edge and MMRR. Getting to ride the original ToT was cool (rode it twice). RnRC was fun, but a one-and-done for me. I can't do wild rides like that much anymore. I got to ride the Great Movie Ride before it closed, so that was cool. Didn't see the IJ stunt show, but did stick around to watch Fantasmic! Ours is better.

Of course, we rode Star Tours and Midway Mania, but those are found here. We didn't do any other shows or shopping or much else.

If we didn't stay for Fantasmic! we would have left earlier. Like DCA it's not really a full-day park unless you really make an effort.

The San Diego zoo and San Diego Safari park is better and not as hot.

Sadly the stars haven't aligned for me yet. One day I'll make it to San Diego, just to see its famous zoo.

Zoos, together with Disney Parks and old cities, are my holiday pasttime. I just want to be outside and walk and explore. All three share a certain density of interesting sights to explore.

I’ve never heard negative reviews about AK, with the exception of the low attraction count. I almost wish I had gone there instead of MK back in May.
DAK was an acquired taste for me. Underbuilt, and built on the cheap. Lots of foliage to walk past from one somewhat failed attraction to the next. One of the triplet of charmless, failed, cheap parks of final Eisner decade, together with CA and WDSP.

But DAK slowly improved, and above all there is a richness of ideas, of meaning, of purpose, of artistry that wasn't immediately apparent to me. It all requires effort on the part of the guest, more than usual for a Disney park, save perhaps EPCOT. (Which was destroyed because of this)

You were nevertheless entirely correct in seeing the MK. You just have to. The other castle park. Roy's love letter to his brother. Sadly no other Disney park has been hit harder by mean corporatism, the MK has physically and operationally transformed into a mean and sorry cash grab.

I been to San Diego Zoo. It was enjoyable. I went during late June. But that was during 2010/11.

I'm not going to take anything away from the San Diego Zoo, but really the Safari Park is more impressive.

And it's fun to go and see how Animal Kingdom totally stole quite a bit from the Safari Park!

I remember in the 70s you were in a monorail exploring the Savanna of Africa. Now you are in large bus or flatbed truck. Heck, you can even spend the night in tents on the Savanna.

I once spend the night in a tent on the savannah for real, in the heart of Africa.

When going for breakfast, I got attacked by a wild warthog stampeding to get to my food first. I would say I fought it and had him for pork sandwich for lunch, but it was sooner the reverse. Those beasts are wild! Not unlike going for lunch in the MK and being stampeded by heifer vloggers running to a new dessert!

There is nothing more fun than hiking through trees in 100% humidity and 102 degree temperatures just to see a gorilla. DAK is a glorified zoo with a ride based on thirteen year old movie that was basically Pocahontas in space that has an under built attraction and a movie theater.

Either people didn't see Pocahontas or they didn't watch Avatar. If we want to compare a movie to Avatar, A Man Called Horse is your answer.

Or Dances with Wolves.

However the Disney woke answer is always Pocahontas. Strong female lead with no street credit and an evil white man. See MCU phase 4-5.

I think the Avatar being Pocahontas/Dances with Wolves criticisms will not resonate with the sequels as I'm sure the story will evolve over the next four films. You really can only do "Pocahontas in Space" once. Since that story has been told, it will have to be somewhat different in the sequel.

I think you do both DAK and Pandora a bit short.

DAK is still underbuilt, but it is nevertheless a full day park, and a great day too. WDW functions differently than DL. Both resorts have the same amount of attractions, but contrary to common judgement, to me fairly obviously having these 80-something attractions spread out over four rather than two parks is a tremendous positive. DAK, like EPCOT, is also about exploring vast areas of gorgeous themed environment.

As for Pandora, it's beautiful. A succes. Na'vi is underwhelming, but FoP is top. Both set in a charismatic land that wows and charms. It would be a draw even if built in DL in the place of GE.
I actually went to Africa recently. The safari my girlfriend and I went on was pretty popular, but then again, they built it in a very weak country that only has 1 ride after the safari opened. 1 ride. It basically can’t fail there. Even if you count the drive to the safari as the 2nd ride of the day. Therefore the safari sucks, our disappointment was immeasurable, and our day was ruined. In the future we will only consider destinations with the highest count of moving vehicles. 1 ride.

But you also chose to go on many rides you probably knew were worse than ours, rather than things like Space or Splash Mountain!! I mean you do you but I’m not surprised it was underwhelming.
