Had a lousy day at work a couple of weeks ago and decided to remind myself why I still needed the job by putting a dent in my credit card and buying this set. Just got it yesterday and have been going though the discs. Here are a few high points and low points.
Good points: Surprisingly clear picture and good sound. Pretty good camera work, certainly less shaky than my own. Shows full rides, sometimes walking up to the ride, not just highlights. Gives you a good idea of what it’s like to be at the parks. I don’t know if they were with the people in front of them while going through Swiss Family Robinson’s Treehouse but this is what the treehouse is like, being stuck behind people stopping every few seconds to talk and make you wait for them to move again. While it’s a fan disc it doesn’t disappoint the fan watching it.
Bad points: Who ever filmed this is zoom crazy at times. So many zoom in and outs on the characters in POTC that the ride didn’t need to be in a boat for you to get sea sick. And they only zoom in for a second before zooming out again. No point to it and it’s annoying. Plus sometimes it’s a bit TOO much like being at the parks. The Cinderellabration section is mainly the back of people’s heads and the back of a little girl sitting on her father’s shoulders. Would rather have this left off the set and room made for something else than watch this.
Worst point: Some of the discs won’t play in my older DVD players. I understand that this is common in even professional DVDs, that older machines can’t handle the newer technology used to create discs, but still, something to think about. My newer players handle it OK but not everyone has 5 DVD players to access.
Petty point: The packaging!! Simple paper sleeves!! Not asking for a creativly designed cover housed in a clamshell case, but come on.
Overall: Very cool collection of nicely done home videos. Glad I bought it. Good stuff. But is it worth the $130? Right now I’d say no. But would I pay that again knowing what I’d be getting. Maybe. I’ll have to get back to you on that.
(Please be gentle, this is my first post)
