Shop the Parks DVDs

Hi....there is a website selling off an expensive set of DVDs on disney attractions. I really like the sounds of it as it has a ton of videos I can't get, like ones from Animal Kingdom as well as Downtown Disney. I was wondering though if anyone on this site has purchased them, and whether or not they were good. They at one point were all for 50 bucks, but I sadly didn't get them then :( Now they're 200 and have been that way for a while. It does sound like a very impressive set though, stretched over several DVDs. :) The sites name is shoptheparks.com.

I honestly was not trying to spam or anything like that....I just wanted to know if they were worth the money. I thought some people on this site had mentioned purchasing it, and I just wanted to know if it was worth the money.......hope that's okay :)

Are these DVD's even legal?

I remember reading something about filming on rides that said "you are free to do so as long as it is not for comercial purposes"

Just checked a few minutes ago and they are $99 again.
I'm waiting till someone posts something positive about them, my sixth sense smells something suspicious. Anybody? Anybody?

Had a lousy day at work a couple of weeks ago and decided to remind myself why I still needed the job by putting a dent in my credit card and buying this set. Just got it yesterday and have been going though the discs. Here are a few high points and low points.

Good points: Surprisingly clear picture and good sound. Pretty good camera work, certainly less shaky than my own. Shows full rides, sometimes walking up to the ride, not just highlights. Gives you a good idea of what it’s like to be at the parks. I don’t know if they were with the people in front of them while going through Swiss Family Robinson’s Treehouse but this is what the treehouse is like, being stuck behind people stopping every few seconds to talk and make you wait for them to move again. While it’s a fan disc it doesn’t disappoint the fan watching it.

Bad points: Who ever filmed this is zoom crazy at times. So many zoom in and outs on the characters in POTC that the ride didn’t need to be in a boat for you to get sea sick. And they only zoom in for a second before zooming out again. No point to it and it’s annoying. Plus sometimes it’s a bit TOO much like being at the parks. The Cinderellabration section is mainly the back of people’s heads and the back of a little girl sitting on her father’s shoulders. Would rather have this left off the set and room made for something else than watch this.

Worst point: Some of the discs won’t play in my older DVD players. I understand that this is common in even professional DVDs, that older machines can’t handle the newer technology used to create discs, but still, something to think about. My newer players handle it OK but not everyone has 5 DVD players to access.

Petty point: The packaging!! Simple paper sleeves!! Not asking for a creativly designed cover housed in a clamshell case, but come on.

Overall: Very cool collection of nicely done home videos. Glad I bought it. Good stuff. But is it worth the $130? Right now I’d say no. But would I pay that again knowing what I’d be getting. Maybe. I’ll have to get back to you on that.

(Please be gentle, this is my first post)

 Welcome, Texzilla and thanks for the info.
Please post a review of the Epcot DVD when you get time.
Does it cover Soarin'? How is the Off Kilter part? Illuminations?
Thanks again! :)

Woah! This is creepy, now they're $199 again! :lookaroun

Yes! I've been looking at these on and off for about a month since I first saw them posted. They continually change price. It gives kind of a shady feeling to the seller. At least the fellow who was nice enough to review them actually got his.

I should mention that I didn't get these from either of the places listed above, but from Laughingplace.com. Also, while the places listed elsewhere in this thread say it's a 20 disc set, I only got 18 from Laughingplace. They're checking for me to see if I'm missing anything. I don't think I got the walk through all those stores in Downtown Disney that's listed. It's not noted on any of the disc labels. Not as bad as if I was missing some discs showing things from the parks but, still, if i'm paying this much.....

Only checked out a couple of things on the Epcot discs. Those were the ones I was having issues with till I found which machine worked best. It does have Soarin' along with the pre show instructions from Patrick Warburton. Of course it loses something in the translation from giant wide screen park experience to home movie burned onto a DVD and played on my TV, but it's good enough to punch the "ohhhhh.." buttons very nicely.

Thanks for the info Texzilla. I believe LaughingPlace.com is pretty credible. I was kind of nervous about the other sites (thanks to the aformentioned continual price changing). Imagine shopping a grocery store where the stock boy put 7 different price stickers on your can of Campbell's tomato soup between your picking it up and check out. It would be exciting I suppose. "Wow 19 cents! My lucky day!"

The more I check these discs out the pattern of the play back issues is made clear. The start of the dics are OK but the farther you go in, the more trouble it is to get them to play. I also find that if I start skipping round the disc to watch, say, Chapter 9 then 2 then 5 then back to 1, that throws it off. So a chapter of "It's Tough To Be Bug" that ran OK at first, gets all scrambled if you leave it then come back. The discs tend to work better in my All Region/All Format DVD player and my DVD Recorder. Guess this weekend I'm going to try putting them in one of the players, start at the first chapter and let them run without skipping around to see what happens. But right now I'm guessing that anything past the half way point is a write off. Not good

The Illumination sequence is very nice though. They zoom in on the Globe enough to show what it's like but pull back often enough to get the full fireworks show that goes on above. The video was taken at the recent Holiday version which added the Please On Earth bit at the end with Walter Chonkite's narration. From what I've seen the Dinosaur chapter is way too dark to be anything more than a blurry version of the ride but with good sound. At least if we can't see the Dinosaurs we can at least hear the Scientist and the vehicle computer talk about them. But again, this was at the end of an Animal Kingdom disc and started seizing up and not playing before it was done.

By the way Hardcard, when you say they're availible "downtown". Downtown Disney? What store?

Some places like 'relivethemagic.com' in the link posted earlier say there's 20. I got my set from Laughingplace.com who didn't mention how many in their listing, and I only got 18 from them. They're checking to make sure I got all the discs from the vendor. Both places say there's over 20 hours of material. Which, if the discs worked, I would belive even if there is only 18 in the set.

As was stated earlier, I'm not sure it's legal to sell your ride videos. My personal advice would be to avoid any seller of ride videos. And, as was also stated above, there are ways to get good ride videos for free, two sources are listed above. I urge you to check into these sources before plunking down hard earned cash for something which may be illegal.
