Shareholder meeting revelations

This years meeting was terrible. No new exciting announcements and they even had plants in the audiance praising the year of a million dreams. This meeting was a sick joke no wonder John Lasseter wasn't there...he has too much integrity for this nonsense.

OK, I will agree that it was fairly uneventful and it doesn't really seem like they actually take the shareholders concerns seriously; all they really did was politely thank them for their support. However, I do think it is somewhat unfair to say that they had "plants" in the audience for The Year of a Million dreams. Only 3 people talked about the celebration and one of them even called it "the year of a THOUSAND dreams".

Pretty much! A HUGE thanks goes out to Scott for mentioning Inside the Magic at the meeting.

Ricky - Kudos on the shareholder meeting mention! That was fantastic and well-deserved recognition for your outstanding podcast. Thanks for delivering the magic .

Pretty harsh there... You have no proof to refute your claims of plants being in the audience, so why make such an outward statement?

While it is true I have no absoluete proof. Some of the comments made were highly suspect and american corporations in general have been known to have plants seated in the audiance to praise and give softball questions to make the management team and the company as a whole look good infront of big time investors.

And some of the questions were pretty tough. Its not like ALL the questions were softballs.

Guess what: They don't have to take ANY questions if they don't want to.

Maybe you should just get over it and realize that people actually DO like the YoaMD.

When Disney bought Pixar it was a stock for stock deal. Jobs was the major shareholder of Pixar so with the deal he became the major shareholder of Disney. (I believe he owns around 2% of the co ) They put him on the Board of Diectors as well.
Actually, according to the shareholder report, he ownes over 7% of WDC.

Disney has had plants at almost all of their press events in the parks, I wouldn't be surprised to see some at the shareholder meetings.

The best plant they had at the meeting this year—was the orchid.

You said it.

I'm giggling over people getting y that nothing about attactions was mentioned. Good grief. It's a shareholders meeting, not a let's placate the fanboys meeting.

But the last two annual shareholders meetings included portions whre they "placated the fans" as you want to call it. They had a segment where John Lasseter would come out and talk about the stuff hes cooking up and reveal new projects like the return of 2D animation with "The Frog Princess" and that they have begun development on "Toy Story 3". This year there was really none of that other than brief mentions of the already disclosed 5 year plan for DCA and about Rapunzel being in development.

Years ago, they held the shareholders' meeting in Orlando and passed out one-day park tickets to all who attended. Of course, shareholders also used to get room discounts at WDW hotels.

Ah...the good old days.

Enigma is right. I actually got a transcript of the Board Meeting discussing the (then) upcoming Shareholders meeting:

Iger: dude, we're going to have plants in the audience to give us softball questions.
Lassetter: Fine, homie, count me out, I have too much integrity for that!!!

(Lassetter also then kicked Iger in the throat).

I remember that. They stopped that immediately upon purchase of Capital Cities/ABC. Disney is now a "global concern", and wants to act like it.

So your joke was just that and really wasn't an inside reference to The Orchid station on Lost which was an easter egg on the Lost Season 3 DVD?
