SHANGHAI (MarketWatch) -- Plans to build a Disneyland theme park in Shanghai are awaiting approval from Chinese authorities, the state-run Shanghai Securities News reported Friday, citing unnamed sources.
The park will likely be located in Chuansha, a suburb in Shanghai's Pudong district.
The Pudong local government is in talks with Walt Disney Co.'s (DIS:

I personally am unsure about the idea... I mean already their HK park is not as popular as it is...why do more in an area that already has one...but China's huge (not good with math but I've been told its the same size as United States) But with improvements that they have done with HK Disneyland, I think it will soon get more attentance soon.

Now on the selfish note...I want them to pay attention to us...waaa lol just kidding.. China I guess is a good market for them.

So what does everyone else think about this idea...:)

With almost 4 times as many people in China as there are in the United States, maybe Disney thinks there's more unmet demand in China?

Also 'close to each other' is not correct. This is the same as WDW and DLR.

Disneyland Shanghai has been out there for years. Eventually it will get built, the only question is when.

I'm wishing they could put it somewhere in Southern Asia, and not another one in China. We don't need another HKDL.

If it were up to me, I'd say India. China isn't growing as fast economicaly or population wise as China, and China is a poor communist country as it is.

Bad move, Disney.

Well, Shanghai and Hong Kong aren't that close together. China is a large country geographically.

And money? Like Hong Kong, Shanghai is a special economic zone, and I can tell you there is serious money there. In fact, something like 60% of the world's building cranes are in Shanghai and Dubai alone.

Wouldn't surprise me to see another mini-MK built there (like HKDL) to whet the appetites of the very rich to head to North America to experience the other resorts.

And the reality, the growth of wealth in Shanghai and Hong Kong over the next 20 years is going to be staggering.

Can't say I'd go with India, though. A sizable portion of the country has months where being outside for hours is unbelievably hot. You thought Florida was bad? It's NOTHING compared to summer months in most of India.
