Shake up in imagineering=alot of new rides?

I agree but do people actually take the time out of their touring to go lodge a formal complaint about a lack of entertainment with an attraction?

Well it doesn't have to be doing it formally. It can be the surveys on park exit, or it can be just saying something to the CMs running the attraction.

People do complain at the front of the park though.

Once again, it was because of complaints. There was no way to actually make it be anything exciting or go anywhere, so it was closed. They DID attempt to add things to the ride, such as trainers with birds and other small animals on the boats, but the complaints continued.

Thats to bad. Sometimes you just need to wade things out. People will complain, not everyone likes every ride. Hopefully some day it will come back.

Well, if complaints really worked the wand would be long gone.

As much as I detest the wand, I doubt that would be the case. As others have noted, the general public is pretty indifferent toward it and some out there really like the darned thing. Most of the complaints about the wand, however well-defended, come from big fans that most Disney higher-ups tend to regard as...well, freaks.

However, unlike some others, I don't think the public's indifferent view of the wand means it's just going to be left up forever either. Unlike removing a full-scale attraction, the removal of the wand would seem to be a relatively low-stakes project financially and would not require overwhelming guest opinion either way to influence it. Now that Epcot stands on its own with new additions like Soarin' and Nemo, I doubt too many Disney higher-ups would care terribly at this point about the wand's removal hurting the park's numbers or image. It seems to me that if enough creatives at WDI care about re-doing the park entrance and feel that the wand was a misstep (and I think a good number do), it's not hard to imagine the thing coming down without much of a battle. I don't entertain any illusions that the wand is a huge priority for WDI, but if that's the case--if the wand really isn't such a big deal for them--it also stands to reason, in my mind anyway, that it wouldn't take much to convince Disney to take it down. Perhaps if the removal was, say, part of a broader WDI pitch to restore SSE and the entrance plaza. Maybe something like the very gradual changes they're making to the entrance right now... :lookaroun

Does that make any sense? Basically I know that the wand doesn't matter much to most at Disney, but by that same reasoning I can't imagine anyone there really fighting to keep it up...like everything at Disney, it will have to go sometime, and it's plausible at this point to think that some prodding from those who want it down might just be enough to really bring it down.

Are you actually complaining about the wand to guest services??

Why not? How do they know what people like and don't like if they don't tell them?

I'm not talking about running in there yelling and demanding the thing be taken down, but they sure did take a lot of complaints when it first happened. A complaint doesn't need to be full of vitriol, they can be done with a smile just to register your opinion. Guest Services indeed does log such things; look at the departure of Alien Encounter for proof of that.

It is true that AE also was removed due to guest complaints. But Guest Services is more likely to listen to something like "It scared my child and made him/her cry" or "I stood in line for an hour to go around in a circle on the boat" more than "I think the wand looks tacky". The first two are logical complaints based on fact, the third is just an opinion on it.

But hell, if anyone feels that strongly about it, go ahead and complain. I can care less, I know the wand has a purpose to serve and thats why its there. It doesn't bother me or make my trip any different. But I wouldn't mind if it came down either.

Remember, though, if you're going to complain, do it in person or in a written/printed letter. Email and online correspondence does not carry the same weight as something tangible that can be held. Dropping a huge box of letters on some suits desk and saying "All these are people who want the wand down" is much more likely to make the suit understand.

Sure, they are different situations with different levels of involvement. I wasn't directly comparing them in terms of validity, just outlining situations where indeed guest comments have had an impact.

Guest Services "listens" to everything, even the invalid complaints ("I'm mad Animal Kingdom doesn't have a fireworks show like every other park!"), the difference is in the attention the higher-ups pay to it. I don't think there is anything wrong with kindly registering your dislike of the Wand. I've never done it directly to Guest Services, but I have mentioned it in just about every conversation I've had with a suit at Epcot. :)

My question was meant as a question...
I quoted them saying that if complaints worked it would be gone...

My question was, were they complaining ONLY here on the internet, or are they really doing what you suggested, going into guest services and vocally voicing their opinion. I would tend to believe that they are only complaining here, and assuming that "everyone hates it" so Disney must know.

new MK parade proposal

Not sure if someone asked this already but, what was the new parade proposal for the Magic Kingdom about? Was just curious if there was more info on that and when this would take place if it does.
