Shades of Green renovation

Do you post just to post? I just explained everything I am trying to point out. But, Density has it's downfalls, so I'll spell it out. If they are allowed UMF, (Which turns NAF's into APF's), they will most certainly pull from the taxpayer dime before they deplete their own reserves... UMF is not allowed to pay for staffing, programming, or activities. It can, however, be used for maintenance and upgrading, and they do use it..
You are correct about veteran status. I am only 90%, hence why I have never stayed at SoG
While you are technically correct that they could use UMF, there is no proof that they have or will use it. Their website states that they are completely self-sustaining, which would indicate that they are NOT using UMF to pull money from APF. If you have proof that they are using taxpayer dollars, please provide it.

I get what your saying... But I am curious as to why I need to show proof for something that is allowed? You are the ones arguing that they don't, so where is the proof of that?
Do you see how pointless this is? I have the mindset that the Government does things they shouldn't be doing without batting an eye, so why would they avoid something they CAN do?

So many acronyms I don't know. This is what it must feel like when a new person joins this board and doesn't know Disney acronyms yet.
So true! UMF= Uniform Funding and Management. APF= Appropriated Funds. NAF= Non-Appropriated Funds. DoD= Department of Defense. SoG= Shades of Green. IMCOMM= Installation Management Command. AFRC= Armed Forces Recreation Center

Because they have claimed on their website that the resort is completely self-sustaining and has used only service member funds for everything, so if they pull in taxpayers dollars, that is then a flat out lie. So you are obviously thinking that they are just lying through their teeth, and spending millions of taxpayers dollars anyway, just because they can. Jaded much?

I personally know someone who has stayed at SoG and am aware of the sacrifices he and his family have made over the years. I wouldn't mind at all if taxpayer money was used to pay for the resort and/or renovations done to it.

And to all of those who have served or are serving, THANK YOU!!
And I've said the same thing. I am not against it in the least. Even as a veteran who cannot utilize SoG as a lodging option. It serves its purpose. If taxpayer funds are used (which I think they are - only for upgrades and capital improvements), so be it. This entire conversation is based off a remark I made saying I was surprised that they weren't spending MORE taxpayer money to improve it. I said it in jest. Some people just argue for arguments sake...

Sorry, not arguing for arguing's sake. It just seemed like you were pointing out some government conspiracy to secretly spend taxpayer money (which gets a lot of people in an uproar) on a recreation area that benefits only a few of us. I appreciate that you are not against it, but in this case, I don't believe any taxpayer money is going towards the renovations. I admit I do not know for a fact, but am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

FWIW, in my experience the audience here for jokes about the defense budget is rather limited. ;)

But @LuvtheGoof is right about the conspiracy part - some people here would jump all over something like that.....
Right? Remember when folks were trying to convince everyone that MDE was being funded by the Department of Defense AND that one of the primary reasons Disney was seeing an uptick in attendance was solely because of defense contracts?

That was weird.

I get it... In poor taste! (How typically me!). Anywho, I wasn't around during that, so I guess ignorance is bliss?!
It made for some rather humorous and tin foil-ly reading.

Just so we are clear, I'm implying that you believe or were part of that brief trip into crazy town. Asking if a military resort is being remodelled with tax payer money is a pretty legit question. Implying that Disney is secretly supporting the war on terror because it helps their theme park attendance is a bit on the chunky peanut butter side (it has nuts!).

So then, no news about tax dollars supporting SoG yet.

Alrighty then.

PS- one more acronym not mentioned above. MWR is Morale, Welfare & Recreation. Or maybe it is Wellbeing. Not sure.

Or simply obmitting finer details...

It's part of the mantra to promote it all as self sustaining to help avoid criticism from non military.

There are so many different "colors" of money in the DOD that no single sentence statement on funding is ever fully accurate.
