Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Discussion

It really is amazing that the Dwarfs coaster was the last minute change and it seems to be the only thing anybody cares about. I know it's the only thing in this expansion that I care about, so I'm glad it's in there - but just how bad would that initial set of M&G plans have been? They almost wasted an extraordinary amount of money imho.

I think it is a matter of the dwarfs having been the most recent addition, therefore generating the most excitement at the moment. Couple that with that fact that it is such a huge upgrade over M&Gs and there you have it.

You are also dead on about what an enormous waste of money those M&Gs would have turned out to be. Looking back at it now, it just seems ridiculous to even think that they were planning them at all.

That said, when I step back for a minute. The addition I am most excited about is the Be Our Guest Restaurant. I think that is a classic waiting to happen.

I care about having an area that looks deep, beautiful, and well-themed more than anything. That's just harder to talk about.

Very cool picture posted here...but WDI needs to proofread. "Seven Dwarf's Mine Train" makes no sense. If you want the apostrophe, it would be "Seven Dwarfs' Mine Train." Personally, I'm hoping for a more inventive ride name before it's completed. Then again, most attraction titles of late have been less than impressive...

I think I heard Eric Jacobson say that the ride would end with Snow White and the dwarfs having a celebration in their cottage (please correct me if I misunderstood)

At first I assumed that would be an interior dark ride scene, similar to what exists now in SWSA.

But Lee's layout makes it look like the track travels alongside the outdoor cottage at the very end.

I wonder if you'll be outside, watching the celebration through the windows? (That would make sense. Why would a mine train suddenly plow through the inside of a cottage?)

i dont see how the ride wouldnt be any larger then then the other ride buildings. look at google earth and compare the size of IASW builing, (the largest in fl to date) with the space available between the 2 buildings as seen now in the latest construction pics. the entire ride layout would have to be small, which meens it wont be fast. id guess it would be more compareable to the people mover in tomorrowland in terms of speed.

the available land really isnt that big, and after they cover those new buildings with rock work and other things to simulate the concept art, there will be even less land left for the mine train.

there is also the overlooked possibility of going underground, but i doubt it

Again, that is making the assumption that the ride vehicle is going at a constant rate like a rollercoaster would.

As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, consider if it's more like The Mummy or Splash Mountain...has fast elements and slow ones through show scenes.

The question is, if it's using a traditional track with a lift hill, etc. or will it be powered at some points......Lee?

Too Much Hype

I am most certainly excited that Disney has decided to go with the mine train coaster. Although at the same time if you have been following the aerial photos by Scott Keating (which are great by the way) you will easily be able to conclude that this coster will be crammed in there. Im sure that the design, details and overall quality of the coaster will be marvelous but at the same time I can't really see a heart throbbing roller coaster in fantasy land. I would think that this coaster would be more like Splash Mountain (which was my favorite ride as a child), telling more of a story then playing the role of a thrill ride in Magic Kingdom. Don't get me wrong, telling a story throughout a ride is crucial, but tourists are not going to travel to Walt Disney World to see the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. I doubt Disney is going to recognize it's seemingly forgotten followers above the age of 12 in Fantasy Land.

It is even odder consider Disney's recent hatred of apostrophes.
Prince Charming Regal Carousel
Disney California Adventure
Disney Epic Mickey
Disney Tangled
So on and so forth.

yeah, i agree. the people mover system would be perfect. it can speed up in short distances to coast around, then slow down like tta does during show sceans.

definatly NOT like btmrr

As far as I know, it is a traditional coaster system. It could, of course, be slowed down at certain points with brakes.
I'm really short on ride-system details...

It is a short ride about short people and will be built shortly and it has generated no shortage of interest.

I've been imagining Crush's Coaster since I heard of the Mine Train. A coaster that slows down for show scenes and speeds up for coaster sections. Although I'm assuming that the Mine Train won't have too much of a thrill element like the latter half of Crush does.

Sorry guys, i skipped the middle few pages so if anyone has posted my bad, but i heard that the mine ride will be inbetween the speeds of Barnstormer, or the Great Goofini i guess now, and Big Thunder. So that probably means in the 18-25mph zone.

Also according to the pictures, those characters do appear to most likely be audio animatronics? could just be the picture though.

On the topic of the cottage exit, well of course thats the exit, it will most likely double as a gift shop as well?

With how low to the ground it seems to be, I keep thinking of a ride system like used at Casey Jr., Le Petit Train du Cirque. A powered roller coaster featuring onboard audio.

A traditional coaster, even if using tires, just seems like a rather loud means of moving the trains around.

The Barnstormer goes about 25 mph and Big Thunder goes about 35 mph--so that would leave us around 30 mph...which is faster than Space Mountain, I believe.
