Well I just found out last night that the Disney Company coming out with the Jungle Book 2. Lord have mercy on the Disney Company! Ok- I’m sick to my stomach about all these new sequels of Disney classics. My problem, why do they have to take classics and do sequels. Heck those are Disney best- Why? Has the company become so dumb that they can not come up with new idea. Is Michel Eisner so desperate to increase his balance sheet that he does not care about the quality of the old films. Does he not realize that this tarnishes the original?

Why is John Goodman playing Balu ?

I don’t know about the company anymore. My theory is some marketing wipe is now pressuring animation to do old time films. Lord!

What about Pan 2 – oh wow – I never saw it but they used colors that were bright. Why can’t they used the old time colors. Wow – I just depressed about this.

I would love to see Eisner right now and say GET OUT of the Company

Roy – Why are you making such crappie films?

Tell me what you think!

My vote is NO!

I saw the Jungle Book 2 preview yesterday at Harry Potter. It looks a little better than some of the others, but- why, oh why do they have to do that? :(

These sequels are ridiculous...I would expect a little more imagination from Disney films!! Honestly, its like they're trying to rehash an old idea with the idea that the movie will be cheaper to produce, yet people will still go see it or buy it because of the name recognition, thus producing profit. In actuality, if they actually invested time and effort (and dollars) in making imaginitive and new films, they would make more money as more people would be interested in seeing them, and the would have new characters that would lead to new product (clothing, toys, stuffed animals, etc.) being created and purchased. Just look at the success of Monsters, Inc. Disney really needs to come up with some creative ideas like that to make more "traditional" animated features.

...

the sequels that make it to the cinema are ok for disney n' i sort of agree. Peter Pan 2 looked ok though i didn't see why they wanted to make a sequel out of it.

The ones that go straight to video look pretty tacky and the animation doesn't look anything like the animation on the origional film...

If they ever make a sequel to Snow White or Sleeping Beauty im there protesting! these are good films they dont need anything to finish it off.

Hey Grizz,

Roy is head of animation. He has the say on whether these sequels are made or not. He, not Eisner, is the one who sits in the Gong shows and decides what is put out for the next year or few years depending on the types of films.

Sequels or not, if tey're good I like them. I love Lady and the Tramp 2 and Return to Neverland. Didn't like Little Mermaid 2 and Lion King 2 and didn't even bother to watch Hunchback 2, Pocahontas 2 and Cinderella 2. Maybe JB 2, Dumbo 2 and 101 Dalmatians 2 will be good, maybe not. John Goodman is great, but as Baloo so far it looks iffy... My main peeve about it is that it doesn't show Louie on the trailer, and we know there's the whole problem with Louis Prima's widow... It's wait and see, I guess.

Question: How have profits been in general with the sequels??

Because most of the sequels have been straight to DVD/VHS, the profits from them have been quite good, creating nearly 40% of the studios revenue over the last few years. (Referring to annual reports for that) Then again, the studio hasn't had a Lion King in a while, so that's a factor to take into account. They are relatively cheap for Disney to make, hence why they do, and they still strike well with the younger audiences who don't know that the original was made long ago in some cases. Still, with a few movies, it helps the rereleases of the originals because parents watch the sequel with the children and then say, well you won't understand it without the original or get the original again for sentimental value. Therefore, as much as we all dislike the sequels, they are quite a creative marketing ploy for Disney.

Hope that helps,
Brian

Were you mouthing off about sequels before Toy Story II hit the screens - THE most successful sequel ever ???

I consider Toy Story to be in a different place than a classic such as Cinderella. TS II came out only a little while after the original, and much of the same talent was used. I can't imagine anyone working on Cinderella, Peter Pan, etc would ever have dreamed that decades later somebody would add on to their stories.

Even the sequels for the newer movies (Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast) seem funny to me, because even though only a few years have passed between the originals and the sequels, the animation quality has gone downhill.

Am I making any sense? LOL I'm very sleepy. :snore:

Well I love Emperor's New Groove and Lilo And Stitch. When ENG came out, I wished I could have seen more. But now with Lilo And Stitch I am happy they are making a sequal and a series, and can't wait to see them, even though I know the quality isnt gonna be as good, I love that movie and I will love to see more adventures.

You should give some of those craps a bit of consideration, you might like them. :D I usually watch everything to see if they're good or bad. So I enjoyed stuff like Lady and the Tramp 2 and Return to Neverland and hated "classics" like Mulan, Pocahontas and Hunchback.

I probably should have used a better word. I like some of the direct-to-videos (Hunchback II, Aladdin and the King of Theves) but others I downright hated (Cinderella II :hurl: )! I really enjoyed Return to Neverland! :sohappy:

Roy rules!

Hey now, I like some of the sequels!

Lion King 2, Peter Pan 2, and Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 I loved.

Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 needed more time in Animation. And Sarouche should have been more evil but other than that perfect.

I am the first to admit that Cinderella 2 stunk. Disney made a bomb with that. That one needed A LOT more time in the writing department! but the animation was great.

Little Mermaid 2 was great!

I for one would like to see new movies but I would also like to see Sleeping Beauty 2 and Snow White 2!

Hunchback, Emperor's new groove, Lilo and Stitch, Pocahontas, and Mulan RULE! Those are some of my favorites.

Sequels being made now are:

Mulan 2, Mulan 3, Dumbo 2 (I can't wait), the Stitch Movie, Lilo and Stitch 2, 101 dalmations 2, Jungle book 2.

Some of you stubborn grumps out there loosen up. I think Walt would like the story to go on. Carry his vision on. Go Dumbo and Jungle Book 2!:sohappy: :lookaroun :sohappy:

All I can say is thank god Jungle Book 2 doesn't have Mowglie's child in it, like Lady and the Tramp 2, Lion King 2, Peter Pan 2, Little Mermaid 2, 102 Dalmations

The one sequel I think is worth Disney's efforts would be Mulan possibly Tarzan but Disney is blowing that one by making it a interquel, dealing with Tarzan as a boy.
