See Expedition Everist Coaster

i just think its wrong to post something for free on a site that you pay for it, sort of a slap in the face to the owner.
So if he'd posted it on another site, encouraging people to go elsewhere to see it, that would be a good thing?
:veryconfu

Steve has dozens of videos that people can pay to see, some of the best on the 'net from what I see. I'm not sure form members posting free ones on his free discussion forum is all that mean or covert.

Guilt? Oh no my friend. Sure I'm forever appreciative for all that Steve does, but I aint paying $50 a year to watch videos. Thanks Langdonj!

You don't need a Premium Pass to view video only a Pass which is $35 per year($3.50 per month).

Thanks for the video. Looks neat.

As for whether or not it was appropriate to link to this particular video, I think a lot of new rules would need to be enforced on these forums for it not to be ok. The video is clearly not the same as the one posted at WDWMagic nearly two months ago, which was the first and only video available on the net of the trains running, as far as I know. Its not from the same angle and the construction of the mountain is much farther along than the one from wdwmagic's video. As long as the video was filmed by Langdonj, there is no way one should say it is stealing. Many of us post photos with free links to large high-resolution photos on these forums in our updates that are similar to the small photos posted on the main page of this site. Is everyone who posts photo updates stealing too? How about those who film and post free links to their wonderful home videos/video updates from these forums? Are they stealing the thunder from the main site too? I sure hope not as I fully enjoy everybody's photos and videos posted on these forums.

Ditto!

If it's not Steve's video, it's 100% ok, but just for the sake of argument (goodness know we don't get enough of that) I'm going to play devil's advocate:

Say that this IS Steve's video (again, just for the sake of argument). Many times on here people (Steve included, IRRC) have said that WDWMagic passholders AREN'T paying for content, but rather bandwidth. Well, if this is hosted on the poster's own space on another website, and Steve's not paying for the bandwidth, is it still wrong?

I just had that Steve-does-so-much-for-us-and-puts-videos-up-on-the-site-for-a-small-fee-he-uses-to-pay-for-bandwith-and-I-just-got-it-for-free pang of guilt. :(

I figured I wouldn't be the only one...

Imo, if someone sent WDWmagic an exclusive video for premium members, a member downloaded it and then started to forward it across the internet or hosted the video him/herself on another site and linked to it, that would obviously be stealing and downright wrong. If the video was filmed by the very person who sent it to WDWmagic and then he or she hosted it on their own space as well, I'd say that is the perogative of the person who filmed it.

I can't see the video since the computer I am currently on does not support Quicktime. Apparently, it seems to be the previous testing video that was posted on the site a while ago. Yes, it is pretty neat to see Everest running.

What is wrong is if the video wasn't credited. As in if someone claims they shot the footage when someone else did.

As far as whether or not uploading the video was wrong, it's fair game. The videographer (which there is no "Thanks _____ " given so it must be anonymous) just happened to upload his content to this particular website. He/She could have also uploaded it on other various web servers or even #D-C on IRC. As it was stated before, the agreement is that the paying members are basically helping the bandwidth cost. This means anything new or archived. We wouldn't have to be hunting for any of the other videos when they are all available on the site. You really can't slap a price per photo/video on something user created. I wouldn't know if there's some violation of copywrite law with Disney in that sense either.

In Langdonj's defense (and he/she can defend him/herself better) I'm certain the video linked in this thread is not the same as the one on WDWmagic. As I said in an earlier post, WDWmagic's main site has nice stills from the video provided two months ago. This new video is obviously from a slightly different angle and of a mountain much farther along in its construction, therefore its a different video. Also, given what Langdo said in an earlier post, he was the one who filmed it, but I obviously can't vouch for that. Therefore, I don't see anything wrong with him posting it here if its alright for the rest of us to post other photo/video updates.

Am I the only one for some dumb reason or another thought the coaster went the opposite way around that helix?

Pleasently surprised for once.

Well, when I first heard that it would go up into the mountain on the helix, I was very surprised, but now that I think of it, I like the idea.

I'm going to guess that there are a lot of people who thought the same thing for one reason or another. I see it all the time where people say the big drop and the helix that follows would be traversed going backwards. It was never planned that way, but rumors spread from the beginning that the big drop out the front was backwards. It most likely stems from the fact that the trains have the engine car in the back. When people took a quick glance at the concept art and saw the engine where it is in respect to the rest of the train, it triggered the idea that the drop and following helix would be backwards.

...or do you mean you thought the coaster came out the mountain and down the helix?

No , Mousermerf you are not alone, I too thought that the cars would be going in the other direction up until a couple of weeks ago.

Don't worry. I'm not labeling him as doing any wrongdoing since I haven't seen it. I'll give an official opinion on it once I actually see it.

EDIT: Yeah that video was taken WAY after the one which was posted on the site. This new one has the whole mountain mostly developed while the one posted on the site still has all the scafolding (sp?) around the mountain. So there should be no more questioning about that topic.

Good video btw! Wish it was a larger resolution, but I'll take what is offered.

i didnt mean to imply that it was the same video, just thought it was rude to post it here when we already have one that the money we pay to see goes to keep the site alive.

Down out of the mountain versus up and into it :) I had no mental discretion on forward-facing motion :)
