I was just wondering if they are still checking people bags when they enter the different parks? When my hubby and I were at Disney in Feb 04' they were still doing it. I don't mean to complain but it's silly. Cause like my hubby said people don't carry anything in can still have something on them. Cause if our bags our still being checked then I was going to try to find a clear bag to carry my camera and water in. Then I don't have to take time out and open my bags. It's a pain in the butt. :brick: I'm sorry I just hate waiting in line when all they do is take a quick look. I'm into safety & security cause of 911 but some need more training on their security.

I seen the Security guards with the Bomb sniffing Stick... put it in.. take it out.. done....

(I carry a back pasck for Digi Camera.. Video, Glasses, souvineers, and anything else.. (I usually aint the one with it on.. I only bring it to Universal or disney.... Never any other park.... due to the amount of video and photos i take at those... more at disney.. universal has jokes too... they sometimes just look with a light in one of 5 pockets...)

If youre not drinking 1-2 gallons of water a day out in the florida summer heat, you'll end up dehydrated very quickly. The medics i've talked to who Daily deal with guests who end up this way, suggest about 1 16oz bottle of water an hour for every hour youre outside in the heat.

Yeah but remember this was about a week ago and it was in the low 70s, upper 60s. Not that hot. Don't think they needed that much water.

I generally drink when I am thirsty and I am NEVER two gallons thirsty. We bring one water bottle which is frozen and as it thaws out we have nice water to drink. We can then refill at either a water fountain (bubbler where I come from) or ask at the counter of any food area when we are getting food. They are more than happy to give you a nice big cup of ice water.

Thank you!!:sohappy: That was the point I was trying to get across! There is no point in bringing a 16lb backpack full of water(water=8lbs per gallon) when you can bring a small water bottle and just refill it throughout the day.

They do, but they won't give it you right then. On all the swords and weapons, it states that they will either be mailed to your home address or you can pick it up at the front of the park. If you're a WDW guest it can be sent to your resort. (They no longer offer delivery directly to your room).


On backpacks: As of November 2004. They still have searches, but if you have it opened and in fairly neat order, they won't make you empty it out nor will they take very long to search. I always had all my pockets opened, but they only checked the main one, and never looked in any of the small ones.

But you could have easily had a bomb in one of the small pocketss. All the more reason why its more of a show rather than an actual serious security measure. Yes they find small things, but if someone really wanted to sneak a weapon in to the parks, they could get past the Disney security very easily.

You're definetly right. I never had to empty my pants pockets nor did i go through a metal detector. I was stating a possible way to streamline the search procedure.

Not disagreeing with you at all, just simply restating that the current way Disney is handling security is nothing more that a show to calm frantic guests.

Getting back on the subject of security...

I think it depends on which Security guard is on duty as to how well you're get searched.

I have had some really serious Security guards go though every nook and cranny in our back pack and make us take everything out while he/she did it.

I even had one guy search my camera bag which hooks to my belt and you couldn't fit anything in there...I have a Sony T-1 and it's like one of the smallest and thinnest digital cameras on the market...and he made me take it out of the bag.

So I guess it boils down to which Security guard you get and what kind of mood they're and how large the crowds are as to how well you'll be searched.

I agree that it is the Security Guard. We are just back and we (I):animwink: carried a large backpack for our 3 year old's needs and depending on who looked, I got a glance or a take the camera out of the backpack and then out of the camera case. If all the Security was as strict as the latter, I would be fine with it. I do, however, worry about the passing glances. They are there to search and be diligent, not give us the pass.

I beg to differ. I just spent the past two days walking around St Augustine working with a major publication, trapsing around a golf course and sweating my rear off - and it was in the mid to upper 70s. I could have used a few gallons of water, i was pretty dehydrated.

I have to fully agree; the "checkpoints" are done for our emotional benefit, not for safety.

Sure, a few of the guards actually take the time to look more than cursory at the bags, but for the most part it's all show.

If they were really serious, we'd see metal detectors and the like - however, at this point, it ruins the magic more that they are there than any "piece of mind" it gives those who think it's "for real".

The Disney bag check is pathetic at best. Ive passed through the "check points" at least a hundered times between parks over the last 2 years. Its RARE that they do anything other than quickly glance at it. I could have taken just about anything into the park by backpack and they would have no clue. They are doing nobody a favor. Sad as it is, I think they profile more than anything.
