Security

I was just wondering if they are still checking people bags when they enter the different parks? When my hubby and I were at Disney in Feb 04' they were still doing it. I don't mean to complain but it's silly. Cause like my hubby said people don't carry anything in can still have something on them.  Cause if our bags our still being checked then I was going to try to find a clear bag to carry my camera and water in. Then I don't have to take time out and open my bags. It's a pain in the butt. :brick: I'm sorry I just hate waiting in line when all they do is take a quick look. I'm into safety & security cause of 911 but some need more training on their security.

Quite a few of the security folks are former law enforcement officers. Clear or not, they still want you to open it so they can check it.
All the parks do this.

I am sure it would really annoy a lot of people if they installed scanners, count yourself lucky.

The terrorism threat is a tarbaby that we are ALL stuck in! Those "security checks" will continue for many years to come. The checks don't stop anything but its all part of the show now.

This is NOT a show folks.
This is serious stuff.

I, for one, feel better because of the security checkpoints.

They DO stop things from going into the parks when checking the bags.

And while you could hide something on your self that they may not find,
I doubt you could sneak a good size BOMB past the checkpoints.

THAT'S what they are searching for.
Something that could hurt hundreds of people at one time.

Before the checkpoints, you could have dragged a ton of explosives into the parks in a back pack or a stroller.

I always thank the security people when I enter the parks and thank them for a job well done.

I must disagree, it pretty much IS a show at this point, to give a feeling of security to guests such as yourself.

If they were really concerend about bombs getting into WDW, they would have already installed scanners, and the bag checks would be very thorough like the are at the airports. (and they are very very very thorough:rolleyes: ). A quick glance into a backpack full of various objects is not going to stop a bomb from getting into the parks. Remember the guy with the bomb in his shoes? People can disguise a bomb as any object they choose. The only way to detect it would be a bomb sniffing dog or a scanner. Have you ever heard of the Disney security actually confiscating anything anyway? Sure they will be able to find obvious things such as dynamite:rolleyes: or obvious weapons, but anything past that would take an expert or a dog to detect. If they chose to not allow any bags into the park at all, then I might believe they were taking it seriously

it's just a show to make guests feel safer... as is ALL of Disney Security. The reason I feel safe at Disney is because of the high number of undecover and uniformed police there.

The bag check really is a joke. I've had plenty of times where they didn't ask me to open any of the zipper compartments, nor actually take anything out of the bag, nor even shine a light into the black bag which is pretty dark within without a light. Heck, I've even gone through - more then once - where the guard didn't even look in the bag at all because he was too busy looking at and complimenting my pin collection on the bag itself! Only one person was thorough and asked me to open the glasses case in my bag (in which my regular glasses were stored while I wore my prescription sunglasses). She was the only one in dozens of visits to all four parks who actually paid attention to what was in the bag.

It's false sense of security. Same as all the other post-9/11 crap they've started doing to pacify the public. The bag check isn't going to deter anything, just make people think it is.

I don't take "stuff" in to begin with, so I don't have to wait in those stupid lines. I mean, what are people bringing into the park in those massive backpacks? I can understand those people with small children, they have snacks, drinks, and diapers if need be. But the couples who both have back packs I don't understand what they have that they would need 2 back packs to carry it all. I just bring my wallet, and my digital camera if I plan on taking pics(fits in my pocket) Thats it!:)

Well let's see. There is the digital camera bag, the lenses, extra batteries, extra compact flashes, then there is the pack (the camera bag attaches to that). I carry cigarettes, lighter, chap stick, money, id, and room key.
I don't understand the backpack stuff either, but, some carry their lunches, soda, water etc. I once saw a woman with a rolling suitcase. I cannot jam all the stuff I bring with me into my pockets, one, my pockets are too small and, of course, it ruins the lines of the clothing ( :) ).

I did think it was a joke until last time security at MK found multiple Miller Lite bottles(glass) in somebody's bag they had tucked in with them in their wheelchair. I think they thought it was going to be overlooked because it was in the wheelchair, but security caught it. I did not see how many he had, but he was at 5 bottles when I walked away...

I don't know about the massive, full-size backpacks but I use a small, girly "purse" one that's covered in my pins. I have my glasses case (because I have to bring both prescription glasses and sunglasses), my digital camera, chapstick, asprin, wallet (ID/CC/cash/tix) and assorted little things that no one else wants to hold. Also, if you buy something little during the day, I just stuff it in my bag.

The pins make it heavy but it's not really a lot of stuff. Just more then enough I can't get by with just carrying it in pockets or whatnot.

When I was there this last time I saw a couple with a kid and the father had a massive backpack on his back, and the mother had one of those backpack water dispenser things, you know that they make for hikers. It was early November and the temp was in the low to mid 70s. Its not going to get hot enough to need to drink the full 2 or so gallons that thing holds. Then get this, she was tired of holding it(still wating for the bus at the resort)and decided she was going to try and hang it on the back of the childs empty stroller. She then proceeded to get terribly frustrated and couldn't figure out why the stroller wouldn't stand upright with the heavy bag o water on the back of it.:hammer:

It's not like you would need that water in WDW anyway, with the number of drinking fountains.

I normally bring a backpack to hold all of this: camera, video camera, rain jacket, long pants (if in december, it is nice to have shorts in the afternoon, but not after dinner), snacks, etc. We normally need one backpack for every two people.

I'd much rather have my own water than drink out of a fountain that hundreds/thousands of people could have contaminated with their germs.
Well thats when you fill up a 1 liter water bottle. I see no need in bringing 2 gallons worth of water in a backpack. Thats kind overkill don't you think?

I usually drink at least 1 gallon of water per day. More in the summer and if I'm outside a bunch.

If youre not drinking 1-2 gallons of water a day out in the florida summer heat, you'll end up dehydrated very quickly. The medics i've talked to who Daily deal with guests who end up this way, suggest about 1 16oz bottle of water an hour for every hour youre outside in the heat.

Getting back on the subject of security...

I think it depends on which Security guard is on duty as to how well you're get searched.

I have had some really serious Security guards go though every nook and cranny in our back pack and make us take everything out while he/she did it.

I even had one guy search my camera bag which hooks to my belt and you couldn't fit anything in there...I have a Sony T-1 and it's like one of the smallest and thinnest digital cameras on the market...and he made me take it out of the bag.

So I guess it boils down to which Security guard you get and what kind of mood they're and how large the crowds are as to how well you'll be searched.
