A bag check and metal detectors won't stop you from getting blown up if someone wants to blow you up.

WDW needs security dogs. Perhaps Pluto could sniff out the bad guys or maybe Goofy could be brought back into service.

They have dogs already and can call up the local law enforcement k-9 untis if necessary. Shortly after 9/11 the dogs were being used in the parks every night to sniff things out.

They should def. have characters performing the checks. You may get offended at some random person going through your baggage, but if Mickey looked through your bag and played around with you, it would be much more enjoyable. :p

I saw dogs at MGM right after 9/11 at about 10 in the morn.

When I was there in January (I know that's how alot of my posts are starting off, but just like to give people a general time, ya know?) they had tables where you put down your bags (you know, like school-cafeteria tables with the seats removed) with tents over them. At night the security officers used flashlights. You could go by all of this if you didn't have any bags. This was how it was done at MK, I don't remember how it was done at other parks (MK's had the best layout).

That would really be a great thing..
But How??

IMO It can't be done with those BIG 3 fingered hands.. :D

I agree with MrD. Its not like Disney is seriously going to deter someone who is bent on destruction. So Disney wouldn't have to put up that type of security system. they have a tent and a table now..so whats the big deal if they do the color coding to make it easier for onsite guests to be prescreened before arriving at the parks..have a few "onsite" guest llines open so those people that have been prescreened can just go on in.
Once we boarded our bus at the resort it did not stop to let anyone on or off until we reached our destination of the four main parks, so that shouldn't be that big of an issue for them and it would significantly increase guest satisfaction..like MrD said "a fastpass" into the parks while off site guests are being "searched"

Disney is not providing true security by checking bags...they are providing people who don't know any better peace of mind. Does anyone honestly think that casually searching bags as people enter the parks is going to stop a terrorist or a criminal who intends to shoot someone, blow something up, etc? Its all a farce. People see a person in a uniform with a badge checking people and they get a false sense of security from it. Get rid of the stupid security check points...they really serve no purporse beyond giving the average joe a warm fuzzy feeling.

That would REALLY look nice on CNN!!

Disney doesn't take threats seriously...
Their security is just for FUN

Come on!!!!

You really don't believe that, do you....
The security is REAL .......... I mean REAL REAL...

REALLY? ;)

Personally, as I said before, I don't think they're fooling anyone with those bag checks... "Excuse me, mrs., but we have to check if there's a device of mass destruction in your baby's diaper bag." :hammer: :p

I didn't have time to read all the posts but i read the ones where people are complaining about all the hassle of having bags checked and how purses and little plastci bags aren't checked properly. Well i think you are whining about things you don't have full information on.

Firstly, the reason the checks are being done are so Disney are shown to be doing something for the security of its guests, and its not really a hassle, next time you say that just remember those that lost their lives in the attacks and then think to your self that these checks could save thousands of lives, so its not really much hassle is it?

Also to the people who say the guards don't check purses, etc. are not thinking about it properly. Disney aren't doing body searches and the guards know that anything small can be put into a pocket for example. Even chemicals can be carried on the body easily. The guards are mainly looking for things such as explosives, thats obvious, and they are intelligent enough to know that a 400lb bomb is not going to be hidden in a purse, or a small plastic bag. The reason they glimpse inside is just to reassure the public as they are shown to be doing something at least, and it only takes a second to see whats in a bag.

If you still want the highest quality security then i suggest you go to Kennedy Space Center, they do bag searches, have metal detectors and have personel armed with machine guns guarding the entrance. Do really think Disney could do that? For one thing the magnitude of guests would cause things to come to a halt on entrance and machine guns would ruin the friendly atmosphere that is expected, scaring young children and stopping families going as they would feel it was too high a risk, when it really isn't a prime target.

Thats my point of view anyway.

I agree that the screening is here to stay, that yes we should appreciate the fact that we can still go to places like WDW and live our lives as we see fit.

My point is simply..isn't there a way that Disney could prescreen onsite guests so that they wouldn't have to stand in yet another line. When we go to Disney..time = money...actually time= lots and lots of money! So that if we could save even 10-15 minutes it would still be 10-15 minutes saved!

We all know it's to reassure the public, that's why we say it doesn't do any good.

Well, as i said i didn't have time to read all the posts. And regarding prescreening resort guests, that wouldn't work, after they were searched they would ahev to be escorted into the park or they could pick up a package they placed somewhere, escorting would cost more money.

well it was just an idea. There has to be something that they can do to offer the onsite guests a speedier process.

No need to wait, they're building permanent check stations, so this is not going anywhere. I just wanted to express my opinion, that's all. ;)
