Sci Fi Dine In - How to fix it

Burgers are just an example of 1 food item that's versatile enough you could dress it up or play with it. It's not all about burgers. It's about having a themed menu that fits the surroundings. There's plenty of chefs out there (known, less-known, and unknown) who could do some amazing things to bring cohesion between the setting and what's on the tables, give us some mind-blowing food, AND make the experience of the Sci-Fi Dine-In completely immersive on all levels. That's the point.

The menu as-is is dull and has nothing to do with a drive-in. It's uninteresting and is a stark contrast to the theme of the restaurant. That's the point. Not --Hey, we need another burger--.

This.

Got to agree on this one. I love the restaurant, love the theme, but it is a last resort place due to the poor food quality. There are plenty of things on the menu that I would like regardless of the disconnect with the theme but the quality is consistently fair at best. For the same money I would much rather eat at 50's Prime Time.

Now I am offically worried. I have reservations for this place in September. Do you all suggest I try to 50's Prime Time instead???? I really feel like my options are very limited. We want to eat at DHS this night due to Fantasmic.

If you've never been, keep the reservation. It's really a matter of personal preference, but it wouldn't hurt to review the menu online now instead of showing up and realizing there is nothing for you. It's not that the food is bad, it's just a strange selection for a 50's Drive-In movie theater themed restaurant.

I noticed you didn't say the food is good either!

While I agree the menu should be changed to match that of a drive in, I think the main problem is that people wouldn't pay to sit down and eat a simple hot dog and fries. When we went last year, the people in the car next to us were complaining to the waiter about a milkshake being $5. I couldn't imagine what they would say about a burger & fries being over $10.

I think people would. It would fit with the theme, so it would all be in good fun. I agree with the Unofficial Guide on this one - "Go to Sci Fi Dine In for dessert and look at it as an attraction, which it is. Don't go for a meal as a good dining spot, which it isn't."

I'd pick 50's Prime Time over Sci Fi. The theme isn't as good, but the food is better, plus it's easier for everyone to find something they like on the menu. Sci Fi has some weird choices. Anyone remember the catfish sandwich?:lookaroun

This I agree with. I'm definitely not going to pay Table Service money so I can eat a hot dog I could get at Casey's Corner. I've never heard of people wanting to dumb down a menu before. A lot of the things on Sci-Fi's menu (besides steak) is not common on WDW property. That's why I like it and for the record the Reuben is fantastic. No lack of quality there.

This is pretty much how we do Sci-Fi now. Split a burger & fries if we're hungry then have a yummy dessert. It's about sitting, relaxing, and enjoying the theme. It is NOT a place to go for the food...at all. With that perspective it seems to work better for us.

My boys refuse to go to 50s Prime anymore. Wusses. They say they hear enough fussing from us about table manners. The oldest rarely eats veggies at home where they're actually flavorful. He doesn't like hearing anything from anyone else...even in fun. Whatever. Thank goodness they're old enough now to go do something else while we enjoy it if we so choose. Yeah, his punishment for not going to 50s Prime can be a meal at ABC Commissary.

It's not about "dumbing down the menu", it's about matching the theme of the restaurant. It's like going to Tutto Italia and finding tacos on the menu.

We never had a problem with the food at Sci Fi, but I also like San Angel Inn (which a lot of other people dislike).

I love San Angel Inn, but my wife hates it.

I've only always had the burger at Sci Fi, as nothing else sounds good to me. It's OK. Not the worst burger on property, not the best.

I'm the exact same way. Plus, nothing else feels drive-in-ish to me. Hubby has had several of the other dishes which I tried a bite of. None have been much to speak of. You could get comparable cuisine from a frozen dinner or a can. Or a hospital cafeteria. Yeah, that's what that stuff made me think of.

Haha, hey, to each his/her own. I was unimpressed when I went there last October, as was my girlfriend, but we had eaten at at least three other TS restaurants before this one, and were going crazy eating at the Food and Wine Festival.

I think most of the food in Disney is mediocre really. We go to the restaurants for the theme and atmosphere, plus the cast members are always good to my kids.

This is a great point.

I am fine with the current menu at Sci-Fi, but I felt that the quality of food didn't match the price. When I am on the dining plan, I don't notice, but really my tofu dish wasn't worth $20. I don't eat beef, but I can understand why people would like more 'drive-in' type food. I also think the movie loop should be longer.
