school testing

Florida public schools have them. Some private schools have standardized, national testing (Standford Achievement Test), which are being given this week.
The Daughter didn't have to take a test to graduate, other than her subject finals. And there couldn't be an outstanding balance on her bill.

When I lived in Massachusetts, they had the MCAS(Massachusetts Comprehensive Assesment System). Students had to pass the 10th grade MCAS, if I remember correctly, or else they could not graduate when they reached the end of High School. They would have to take them again until they passed or some such nonsense.

I know that my daughter this year took the FCAT(Florida Comprehensive Assesment Test) in third grade, since we moved here in December.

Florida now requires that you pass the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) to graduate. Several years ago you had to pass the High School Competency Test (HSCT). Here's a sample question (I can't remember the exact wording):

You want to find driving directions to Atlanta, GA. You would look in:
a) an encyclopedia
b) a road atlas
c) a dictionary
d) a telephone book

I kid you not!

That sample question is from the HSCT (which has since been replaced).

Actually, I remember taking quite a few tests before graduation. And now, in college, I am under the impression we've taken a bit more than a few. Curses! However, the year is swiftly coming to a close. In response, I'm absolutely uncertain as to whether or not there is testing before graduation, but my thinking tells me a resounding "no". (By the way, I'm originally from Minnesota, so this is the state in question)

New York's got the Regents, but they're not just for graduation. You take one for pretty much every subject you take at the end of the year. I loathe regents weekFreshman year I had Biology and Math A
SOphomore I had Chemistry, Global History and Math B
This Year I have Physics, Spanish, English, and US History (plus 2 AP tests!)

I hate this time of year

Yea, back in January. Actually, it wasn't too bad, through a bit irritating given the circumstances.

I took mine last June. I was so sure I had bombed it but amazingly I didnt and I passed which meant I passed the class.
