Say NO To Genie+ PETITION

But on that opinion driven message board I’ll argue opinions.
You’re free to hold your own opinions, but you have no say over mine. I can’t help the fact that I still enjoy Disney, nor do I make any apologies for it, even if that means I’m part of the problem in your eyes. Like everyone else in this miserable world, I’m simply trying to enjoy life as best I can. Disney, whatever you may think of it, remains a source of boundless pleasure for me; if and when that changes, I will stop visiting (and even then, Universal won’t be where I go instead).

As of now this petition has 79 signatures. This site has how many thousands of members? People can't be too upset about it.
The petition thing, at least the way I see it, makes something to talk about and a peek into how people may be viewing things. In no way shape or form have petitions ever reflected the feelings or opinions of the mass / bulk of people. The actual feelings, opinions and preferences of the majority are revealed over time by where people actually go, what people actually do and how money is actually spent. When standing in an a park with a sparse amount of guests roaming about, no lines at rides / venues and CM's at various food / refreshment locations waiting bored behind their counters for customers, that will be the moment of realization / impact. Yes, a petition is a peek, a hint that there is some dissatisfaction most folk's will not be loud but more impactful in expressing dissatisfaction.

Cmon the splash mountain petition has 90000 signatures. This really isn't moving the needle. People on this board are more upset than the general public. If it backfires once it goes live then they will change it. But I think they already know this is gonna work.

Because, as I said above, I (and many of the curmudgeons here) still love Disney and the heights WDW once reached. When I see people enabling what I view as the tasteless exploitation of the nostalgia I share and encouraging the resort’s ceaseless decline it destroys any glimmer of hope I have that WDW might one day return to being close to the place with which I fell in love.

I don’t think anyone is a bad person for going to WDW, and I would certainly never try to prevent folks from going in any manner other then good faith arguments on a message board. But on that opinion driven message board I’ll argue opinions. An old man yelling at clouds.
lol I think the disconnect is the mistaken assumption that we are under some type of "drug", hence the "enabling" referance and if we would only go to universal we would some how fall in love with it and like the matrix see Disney as some gigantic rip off.
Now again I don't know anyone who consistently drops thousands upon thousands of dollars on a vacation only to wistful wish it was like it was 25 years ago. I really think it's more of, why can't everyone be as upset as I am.

I didn't go consistently before 2000 so I don't have this "magical" nostalgia of the golden years of Disney. I do understand wishing things were like they were years ago, I just don't make financial purchases based on that whimsy.
I am concerned about the nickeling and diming of the cost and if and when it gets too much I'll stop going but here's the thing I still won't go to Universal.
Not sure I'm enabling Disney anymore than I "enable" the nissan corporation when I buy one of their cars. I really don't think people get that deep into the psyche behind what WDW management is going to do. I admit I'm pretty "Keep it simple stupid" if I go and continue having awesome vacations, we'll keep returning".

That few signatures really tells Disney the plan is a success and they could have charged even more.
Bingo. The idea that people think petitions don't work so they won't sign is just an excuse for the low amount of signatures. The splash has 90000 so that argument has no merit.

I agree. It’s particularly annoying when posters who give vast amounts of money to Disney (DVC, AP, several trips a year) pick on a single event or up charge they don’t like and then accuse others of being “duped” and ruining Disney by participating. See Boo Bash. People value different experiences and act accordingly.

Quite honestly this is basically the same as maxpass in dl. Slightly higher cost and obviously the additional cost of the tier one rides. But just like with maxpass; you don't have to use it. Personally, I will get the genie+ but I won't be paying extra for the tier 1 rides.

You know you could still get fastpass without max pass though right.....this puts it all behind a paywall. People keep forgetting this fact.

This. The wheels are in motion and it’s much, MUCH too difficult to stop this train ANY TIME soon.
It could be a bad thing;

Or - and hear me out - that’s a blatant strawman and the people arguing against you stopped going regularly (or at all) years and years ago AND aren’t singling anything out but are arguing against the greed and mismanagement of WDW and ALL its manifestations, from the SW Hotel to Boo Bash to Genie+.

And of course the SM petition has a lot of signatures - it’s culture war stuff, the lifeblood of much of the internet.

What does Disney offer that Universal doesn’t?
IMHO, Nothing. The problem now is Disney doesn't offer Disney anymore. If you consider that Disney is charging now for things that 5-10 years ago Disney felt should be included in the guest experience, Then Universal is offering more than Disney.

What Universal can't offer you is nostalgic Disney. Of course, neither is the current Disney.

It's not the same company that I used to work for 10 years ago and that's a shame.
