I spoke to a representative at Disney on Friday night. I was calling to book a room for next weekend. I voiced my opinion, once again, about closing the Adventurer's Club. I told her that it was a complete ripoff to take away the one original club that Pleasure Island had. She told me that closing the Adventurer's Club was "up in the air". She said that she was told that if it closed at all, it would be temporary. I explained to her that I spoke to someone else who told me that it was definitely closing. She said that due to the popularity of the club, they had not decided whether or not the AC would remain closed if it closed at all. She also stated that Raglan Road would probably remain open. I am not sure if she was just telling me this to shut me up or not, but when I told her that I wanted to organize a rally to show support for the Adventurer's Club, she told me to call and ask for her, because she would be willing to show up to fight for it too. So as of right now, I am planning on it closing, but she did raise my hopes a little bit that it won't be gone forever.

So keeping writing and calling Disney!! If they are on the fence about the AC, then we need to show them that it matters to us. We need to persuade them to leave it alone!!

KUNGALOOSH!!!
The majority of CM's which guests have immediate access to are generally clueless on these sorts of issues and in no position to even comment, much less tell the guest what they want to hear.

In hshort, I have to agree. She was talking out of her rear.

They serve alcohol...it's all you can drink.
Well, it's a small fixed menu of typical beer beverages, wines, and a few (one?) mixed drinks. Cannot exactly ask Nash for shots at the the Hoop and it's a much different atmosphere. However I'm sure someone in Dining has had their eyes on the AC and how to convert it into a facility much like the Revue.

But you know....Pioneer hall is only open for about 6 hours in the evening...using the one business model for closing PI....this should go too.....:dazzle:

I love the AC, but there's a reason almost everyone attending already knows the songs. The same weirdos go there every night and loudly ruin the show for first-time Guests.

If Disney brings the AC back (and IMO they should), they need to advertise it as a unique experience, get more Guests into it, and raise the limit back to 18 yrs. old.

Yeah, but it costs around $50 for one person to get in to one show in Pioneer Hall. They run three shows a night, so every seat probably rakes in about $150 every night. Over at PI, it costs far less than that for one person to hop around between clubs, maybe having only one or two drinks the entire night. Three people tooling around PI for those six hours makes Disney far less money than three people sitting down and watching the Hoop de Doo on any given night. It's really like trying to compare apples to pranges.

Now, if they were to turn the AC facility (as well as the story behind it) into a dinner show, I'd be interested. I've never seen the current show, but I've heard enough to be interested. Hopefully they don't take a bulldozer to the whole thing, building, story and all.

I just got back from DLR and spent a decent amount of time during our short trip at Downtown Disney District. I'm thinking that the "New PI" will look more the west coast version of Downtown Disney. Shopping, restaurants and some live entertainment here and there - not much more.

Have to admit, was a great place to visit and hang out for a few cocktails but that's about it. Only so many times I you can walk into the Quicksilver or Department 46 store.

My dear wife just corrected me....Department 56, not 46. I guess that tells you how much I was paying attention.

What's a prange?

What's a prange?
K'Temoc: "Wait! Lower the shields. I yield command of the Tong to you, Captain Worf. Long live the Klingon Empire!"
Worf: "A wise decision, Captain. Commander K'ehleyr will board your vessel and take command. The Klingon cruiser Prang will soon arrive and escort you home. And Captain?"
K'Temoc: "Yes?"
Worf: "Welcome to the 24th century."

I went to the AC a couple of nights ago and I must say that I really enjoyed myself. It is very well themed and is very original and I am sad to see it go. HOWEVER....

There were some really weird people there. I'm not going to say specifically what night I went as to not offend anyone, but it was very obvious that there were some creepy folks there.

Also Pleasure Island was a ghost town and for good reason. There is nothing redeeming about that place other than the AC. And in my opinion Pleasure Island should have closed a long time ago. I do wish I could have seen the place when it opened, but it's a joke now.

I just heard about this today from my travel agent while booking a trip in December. BOOOO!! One of my fondest memories is of my sister and I dancing the night away at Mannequins. At least they're talking about keeping that one. Disney World isn't just for families with kids. Adults need PI!!

Unfortunately, I've heard nothing about ANY club at Pleasure Island being spared the ax. (Especially Mannequins) :(

So I might have a smidgen of good news... a SMIDGEN. Take it with a grain of salt though, as I can't confirm its veracity.

I flew back to San Juan from Virgin Gorda last night, and I struck a conversation with the passenger next to me, who is an engineer contracted to TWDC in Lake Buena Vista, connecting in San Juan for his flight home to Orlando.

He mentioned that his 2 previous projects at Disney before being contracted specifically by Disney were Curl and "the Irish pub at pleasure island"

I then mentioned the Pleasure Island closing, and his mention was that two of the clubs were to reopen, he mentioned specifically "a comedy club" and "one of the main dance clubs" but that the rest is going to be redeveloped into shopping and dining :hurl:

We swapped business cards (since he seemed quite a bit more interested in my work for Obama than I did in his work for Disney... and I was very interested) and hopefully we'll remain in contact.

You need to take anything like that with a grain of salt, but it is still good to hear. The more we hear things like that, the better our chances of saving the AC get.
