Say goodbye to ALL the clubs at PI.

It's clear that there is no end to the passionate feeling out there about the changes going on at WDW, but even though I may not like some of the decisions that have been made you have to keep in mind that Disney is in the market to make money - point blank. We do not know if and how much money is being lost daily by keeping PI open. Fiscally, this may be a reason behind it. They want to maximize revenue, and you can't blame them for that. The fact is, as much as I don't like it, PI attendance has been declining, as well as the value of that product in the past few years. I, for one, intend to be optimistic about this and hope that changes will be positive and will breath new life into Disney night life.

Don't get me wrong - I was as shocked as everyone else when I heard that PI is closing, but face it - you can't stop change!

This is pretty much the reason, as you said... Revenue. Unfortunately, Disney shot themselves in the foot the day they changed the rules for PI and made it accesible to all ages. And the downward spiral then followed. But why they are eliminating something as consistently successful as the AC is anybodys guess:shrug:!!

You'll just have to settle for the Mai-Kai in Fort Lauderdale now, lol!!

hmm

They should convert the adventurers club into a full scale retsuarant. Take clue's fro the Jekyll and hyde club in nyc.

IT would keep disney happy and the fans happy.

Convert each floor to a different theme that fits the adventurers club theme. Have the characters roam around while eating and conversing with gues. Keep some animatronics to talk while eating.

I hope this is what dfisney has in mind.

Actually that was not the reason why it went down hill. People under 21 should have been able to purchase seperate tickets for the adventurers club. As it was under 21 had to buy a full all club ticket even though they were only allowed into 2 of them.

People under 21 shouldn't even be allowed in the AC as far as many are concerned...

I cannot believe this. The only reason I would stay on Disney property was so I would have a driver take me back to my room after a fun nite at Pleasure Island. I am so upset. I have been going there for years and always loved it. I even booked a room for new years eve this year to go there and now I cant. I hate what Disney is becoming. It use to be my favorite place in the world but now Disney isnt thinking about accomidating everyone....just families with little screaming kids that shouldnt be out past midnite so there is no reason for them to close the only ADULT place that disney had left. Disney closing pleasure Island is SUCH a Horrible Disapointment:cry::mad:

It's all about the families now.

Now?? NOW??? You think that concept is new to Disney? You haven't been paying attention the last 50 years.

If PI were a success, do you think Disney would be shutting it down?

So long, PI...don't let the door hit you in your over-hyped, taking-up-valuable-space rear end on the way out.

OOOOOH. Where's the merry-go-round?!?!?!?!?

Listen, I get what you're saying. But lately, I've felt like they're making more and more negative changes at my favorite place in the world without taking into account the thoughts and feelings of those that are the most loyal to them... People like me. People like us. I think they're taking away more and more of what makes WDW unique. And it "sipps" me off, if you get me. And I'm getting tired of it. So people like me lash out. It happens. When there's nothing you can do about something that makes you angry, this is the result you get. And TRUST ME... Those people don't care about you or me. So I don't care about them. Not right now, anyway.

I've been first in line to buy into DVC at the Contemporary. With fat points, too. Enough for a Grand Villa every 16-18 months. Check in hand and everything. But this is another in an increasingly long line of decisions that really has me re-thinking that. And the fact that I'm questioning whether I want WDW to be my major vacation destination for the next 50 years is upsetting to me, and something I never thought I would do. So how do I react? I complain. There's nothing else I can do, aside from rolling over and taking it again... Which I'm getting a little tired of.

So some suit gets called an idiot by me. I think he'll be okay.

The most frustrating part is we have no recourse. You have to be a big institutional invesment fund or the like to raise any kind of a ruckus. So they can just give us the cold shoulder and there is never any ramifications or accountability for these types of decissions. The (I will define a new term) "Educated Idiots" need to regain the creative energy that built disney. Instead they reach for the low hanging fruit to build profit. When that is all picked these number crunchers will have nothing left. Then What?

Count me in!! That would be fun - I always felt the Mai Kai had a "disney-esque" feel about it. And....they have really yummy drinks!

Right. Lets make room for another place to have a character meal that we can be over charged for. I really need on more place to buy a T-Shirt too. I need to go on a balloon ride ,for a fee I am sure. What ever happened to the need for variety. Why is it so aweful that there was one small island on the entire property that catered more to adults and not the family. Does the family crowd not have enough options. PI was a success until it was slowly killed by people with no imagination. Unfortunately those that saw great wisdom to bring kids to an area that they knew was a place primarily for adults, now see a need to make a change for the sake of the family. They are bars. Why would you allow underage kids into bars? Sorry, I think I was ranting.

In my experience it is never a good thing to let underage (less than 21) individuals in to a club that is serving adult beverages. Which lets not fool ourselves, is the primary source of revenue for establishments like these. Not cover charges. Disney could actually create a teens entertainment area. I have said it before. If you take a cruise, there is a place you can go where there are no kids. Certainly you would not expect to see them in the bars.

Amen to that brother! (BTW - love your avatar! Can't wait for the movie!)

I went to PI the first year it opened and went several times thereafter until about 1996, maybe 1997. Since then I have never been back and have had no desire to return. Maybe living in Miami and NYC spoiled me to real nightclubs and comedy clubs, but the PI clubs were all subpar. Mannequins in particular was this odd mishmash of a few tourists in shorts, disney employees, and locals. The last few times I went it was never as crowded as it was in its early days. As for the Comedy Warehouse, :hurl:. Lame lame lame lame. Maybe it improved since my last visit, but I doubt it. That being said, I hope managment reconsiders and keeps AC. Thats really the one realy creative and original place at PI or at least reconceives it and changes it into a restaurant.

I know Jim Hill is hated by everyone on these boards, but his article today is quite interesting and reflects my experiences with Downtown Disney since the late 90s. I am one of those people who just skips PI while visiting the marketplace and the west side. I think it makes total sense at this point to make one cohesive area.

And for those who feel that there are no adult experiences at WDW anymore, you really need to calm down and examine those statements. There are still plenty of adult experiences all over WDW and Downtown Disney.

BTW accd. to Jim hill Night Kingdom is momentarily dead so apparently there won't be an AC transfer to the new park.

Im quite calm, and I have reflected before posting, but its no good, the simple fact you are citing Jim Hill shows that you are indeed talking out of your . Just like your apptly monikered chum above. :)

And that makes sense to me. IMHO of course. :D
