Say bye-bye to E-Ride Nights and Plaza Pavilion

Two tid bits of information that I found today while browsing My Disney Team, the WDC portal.
  1. E-Ride Nights are being phased out. In fact, the portal says "None" for E-Rides for the month of January and doesn't even mention February, although the park hours for both months are up. According to an FAQ on the Magic Your Way program, "E-Ride nights will be phased out." (This was part of an answer to a question about special tickets and E-Ride Nights.) While this probably isn't a complete surprise due to the introduction of Extra Magic Hours Evenings, it will still be interesting to see how it plays out, since E-Rides, in my opinion, served a somewhat different purpose. (Although I have never attended an E-Ride or an EMH, I did work during the second week of the EMH Evenings test and on many E-Ride Nights when I was down at WDW this summer and, though the reasons are quite understandable, I was just shocked by how much more crowded it is during EMH Evenings in the Magic Kingdom than during an E-Ride.)
  2. The Plaza Pavilion will be no more as of January 5. It will enter an "extended refurbishment" and, upon reopening in Spring 2005, will become the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station and will serve "a mix of Asian fusion cuisine." I will definitely miss Plaza Pavilion because I worked there one day during my CP last year and it was one of my favorite shifts of the program (though it was strange to be working somewhere other than my normal locale), I went there while park-hopping on my birthday during my CP (That is the only place that I have eaten in and that wasn't in World Showcase! I'm glad that I found out about it, even if it was near the end of my program because the food there is good!), and I love the stack sandwiches! Where am I to get stacks now? (I belive that Cosmic Ray's just recently got rid of stacks from their menu. ) I will definitely give the new place a try, though, the next time that I'm working at the World. After all, change isn't always a bad thing and Asian food sure is yummy!

I hope the Plaza Pavilion rehab is true - it will be nice to find a counter restaurant that serves something different from the bland fare elsewhere in the park.

I'd be sad about the Plaza Pavilion if they still served the grease-sponge pizza and garlic breadsticks. But they don't. So I don't really care. But what does Asian cuisine have to do with Tomorrowland? Wouldn't that be better suited in Adventureland (hello, Adventureland Verandah!). But now I don't eat anything at the Magic Kingdom, except for maybe some fries at Cosmic Ray's. I'm still puzzled about Asian food in Tomorrowland.

I think the reason behind EMH being more crowded than E-Nights because it's free. But when I went to E-Night over the summer, it almost sold out! There was a 15 minute wait to ride Space Mtn. and Splash, on e-night !!!

I do like the Plaza Pavillion, but every time I went there it was empty, I agree that it needs a make over but noodles ??

About the same as bland burgers and carboard pizza has to do with Tomorrowland

I wonder if they will keep the noodle bar open or whether they will follow the same rules as Pirates - that is, if it does not serve burgers keep it closed for a good chunk of the year.

Charming. Hopefully you are not implying that Asians eat rats, because I just know you would never make such a racist remark.

I loved the breadsticks at plaza pavilion and im pretty sure they never have e-ride from jan-feb. Asian food really makes no sense. what does that have to do with tommorowland and really, who wants asian food?? :hurl:

e-ride night or EMH seems to be similar to me. The park stays open later, just E-ride you have to pay for and EMH you don't. Isn't that the way it was years ago the park was just open later?

as for noodles in tomorrow land, I think will be a welcome change. there are already alot of places to get fries and burgers, something diffrent will be welcome.

The big perk of E-ride was that there were a limited number of people allowed to be in the park, so wait times were guaranteed to be short. Whereas, with EMH, every Disney resort guest could theoretically all go to the open park, still causing significant waits. Of course, this wouldn't happen, but the EMH will result in somewhat longer waits compaired to E-rides. However, I think I actually prefer EMH, since almost all of the parks are included as opposed to only the MK.

Noodles = Tomorrowland?

I think it should be called EPNOT - Experimental Prototype Noodles of Tomorrow! :D

Anyway, I agree that noodles may not be a futuristic food, but niether are burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, pizza, or turkey legs. If they name it creatively, it will be fine. I think this was more of a location decision. I know when I was on my CP-AI, people always asked for healthier alternatives, especially those not from America. Noodle places are HUGELY popular, fairly inexpensive, and much healthier. Therefore, I applaud Disney for trying to infuse a bit more health into MK. I agree the Adventureland Terrace would be a nice place, but the Plaza is simply much larger, and if this works, they will need the space because it is popular.

Having said that, first I hope that this does not become a seasonal operation and is open year-round. Second, I hope this is an indication of trends to come (doubtful, but I can hope). If the dining and shopping of MK is diversified like it is in Epcot and other areas, that will help IMMENSELY with the atmosphere. I think having quick offerings in each land that are specific would be a great help (BBQ in Frontierland, Carribbean in Adventureland, etc.) Keep the burgers and fries, but make it more of a 1:1 type ratio of burgers to other offerings, IMHO.

I hope they have sweet and sour chicken...glad they are trying to cater to different groups of people now. There are still more than enough burger/fries places for all of us that like that type of food, and I can honestly say I never went to the Plaza Pavillion simply b/c I prefer Cosmic Ray's and Pecos Bills (Columbia Harbor House if I feel like it)...maybe now I'll try this place out (if it has sweet and sour chicken :D)

I won't miss E-Ride Nights...now we get to go into all four parks late at night!

I don't mind losing the burger/fries part of it (because Pinocchio is my place of choice for burgers) but it was the only place to get pizza. Which I personally liked sometimes.

What hindered it was the open-air (too hot in summer, too cold in winter) and it's absurdly short hours. One day it was closed by 4pm. (!)

Noodles don't hold any appeal to me (not to mention I generally avoid Chinese food like the plague because I'm badly allergic to MSG which is almost always found in Chinese items) but at least they're trying something different.

I'd just like a pizza option somewhere still in MK.

Agreed. We need pizza and tacos! Let's hope the D-Army can get those!

Nooooooo!!!!

The plaza pavillion restraunt is my favorite fast food at any of the parks not just because of the, (in my opinion) good slection of quality american fast food but becasue Tomorrowland is my favorite area in the Magic Kingdom, it's big and open and hos a wonderful panoramic view of the whole hub and last but not least they play tomorrowland versions of disney songs.
My last trip we were at WDW 4 days and we ate there 3 times and now im really glad we did.
