SPROOKJESBOS/FAIRYTALE FOREST

Being one of the main pinnacles of the park itself, this giant diorama of European fairytales is quite stunning despite it's age for it's beauty and the serene peacefulness of the area. I'll admit, when I first heard of it, I thought it would be one of the minor attractions of the park, but, I was wrong about that. Everyone seems to love this part of the park, and for the reasons stated before, it's not hard to see why. Plus, there seems to have been put in lots of effort to make this dream of a section come true. That being said, I would like to refine this area since it could use some more polish.

1582681194286.png

For the Sleeping Beauty section, I would like to add a couple of climbing roses on the sides of the castle, a feature originally intended for the walls before evergreen ivy was decided to be a better option due to it's quick growth. The Climbing Roses should be introduced when fully grown, similarly to the tactics the Disney Parks use when planting actual flora in the parks, but, it was especially heavily used in Animal Kingdom in order to make the area feel more grounded and older than it actually was. As additional content, I would like to add in a figure of the Prince standing around in the corner of the room to complete the Diorama.

As for Herald's Square, I would add two more castle towers around the area, one on each side, although keep them small and away from the main paths. I just think the added addition would make the area feel more in touch while not completely taking away the nature aspects of the square.

For The Frog Prince Scene, the concrete surrounding the frog fountains makes the area feel much more synthetic in contrast to the rest of the Dioramas in the park, Keep the cobble stone center, but instead redo the section by planting flora all around the frogs, since the concrete and plaster doesn't contrast very well in this case.

1582681224028.png

The Snow White Scene has already recently been renovated and is absolutely gorgeous and I feel like there isn't much more that could be added to this scene. It's already perfect and has recently been renovated. Give it a break.

As for De Magische Klok, the only thing I would do is trim the vines on the towers. I think they look okay, but, only in moderation. I don't want to get rid of them completely since this is supposed to be a forest, but, it looks a tad strange for the princes to look shining and new while the Clock Tower looks like it hasn't seen a gardener in ages.

Next up is the Dwarf Village, which I would briefly take down for a quick building repaint since the exterior's paint is starting to dull now, which works for the limestone parts of the town since it makes it look natural in a way, while the current state of everything else look much and adding the new coat would make it look slightly more whimsical like the forest tries to be itself. Also, I would disguise the barriers better with more shrubs and bushes, since it breaks immersion when you tend to look at it.
1582681259096.png

After that is The Six Servants Diorama, in which I would restore Bullet-Eye as his full figured self instead of him just being shoved into a nearby kiosk, but, keep the blindfold as it's in character. Also, I would add in the other four servants just because it would be neat to have a complete set of characters here.

The Chinese Nightingale diorama was made excellent by the expanded room space it was given after being moved to a new area, but, with that said, I dislike how empty the space in the room is, so let's preferably add in some new furnishings and décor, since the negative space is really distracting, but make sure the new furnishings are in the corners of the room in order not to detract focus from the set. Then I would fix the position of the Emperor prop in the room so his neck isn't so rigid and uncomfortable looking. Finally, let's make the titular Nightingale more visible to the audience in this scene so you can actually see it.

I would retitle The Talking Parrot to The Naughty Princess since that's primarily what the entire sequence is about. Sure, people may not be expecting a parrot, but, I would rather them think they've been mislead and find out the context to why the thought that and why that wasn't true than them thinking it's exactly what the title says and being mislead about how it's more than that. Also, I would replace the statue of the Macaw that's currently there with an actual Audio Animatronic that's kept under a rooftop so it isn't damaged by weather elements. Preferably I'm thinking of the Animatronic bird being kept under a brick shed with one of the fronts of the shed open where guests can walk in. There would still be ivy growing all over the backdrop, and the bird would be on the branch, where the bird would use mechanics similar to the Tiki Bird animatronics but without the clicking, and the sign would still remain but would be infront and on top of the shed.
1582681292494.png

The Mother Hulda set is doing quite well as of now, and so, I would leave it alone as it's still in near perfect condition, plus the inclusion of the Animatronic in the winter and how it ties in with the story is extremely brilliant.

Same goes for the absolutely amazing performance of The Red Shoes set as well, along with the brilliant technology that's utilized. Seriously, two rotating discs with magnets is all it took? That's absolutely amazing!

The Little Red Riding Hood set doesn't need too much of a refurb, but, I would just add in safety measures so the Little Red Figure doesn't get stolen for the third time (Seriously?? Why??) and update Krakeeltje to look more like a real life crow, though keep the structure and movement the same otherwise. The white around his eyes can stay, but I would just make his underbelly black.

As for the Hansel and Gretel set, I would give the whole building a thorough repaint and redesign in general so it doesn't look as old and as obviously painted in the first place, mainly through fixing the texture of the building which makes the "candy" on the exterior look flat, and fix some of the roof paint so it doesn't look like the tiling was just painted on without a care, while making the roofs stand out more in the process and not so faded. Also, I would reposture Gretel's figure so it actually looks like she isn't just mentally saying "Long Live The King" to her trapped brother who is about to be cannibalized presumably.

1582681374700.png

The wishing table is in solid condition, so it may stay as in it's current state, plus it's basically the whole tale explained in one statue so, no new content can be added..

I would also say the same for Guinevere's Bridal Gown, but, I would trim some of the tree branches surrounding the top of the structure.
The Gardener And The Fakir is also in pristine condition, and I don't think the current state of it could be topped right now, with the beauty of the building and how clean it looks, the technical effects, and the story that it tells.

The Indian Water Lillies are absolutely stunning, but, I would improve the dolls within all the lillies so the poles that they're attatched to and the mechanics of them are less obvious, as well as giving them a new paint job and more joint movements so they look less robotic and so they look more lifelike. The new paint job is only there because I think that they can be improved with this new budget.
Moving on, The Little Mermaid would probably see a total redo of the Mermaid statue, with the lower portion of the body remaining the same since it works, but having the upper human portion redone so the mermaid doesn't look like a dead-eyed doll with her eyes drifting apart in this case.

1582681514820.png

Next up, for The Wolf And The Seven Kids, I would just fix the proportions of all the animals and add proper pupils and teeth to them so they don't look so uncanny, as well as flattening their skulls so they don't look like they're swollen.

Now, The Dragon set is absolutely wonderful as it is of now. The only things I would add are perhaps expanding the wingspan of the dragon and giving it the ability to blink perhaps. The Wingspan thing is kind of petty since I just think wings that short break my immersion and look awkward, and the same goes for the blinking, but, blinking also extends immersion by making the dragon feel more alive. Also, I would give the Dragon better sfx so it isn't so obvious it's a blend of a Gorilla and a Snake, not that there's anything wrong with using the latter.

Meanwhile, The Troll King is currently at it's peak, and I wouldn't want to screw it up in an attempt to refurbish it since the entire set cost 2.6 Guilders. I would say it was worth the money since it's the most complex AA here, so let's leave it alone.
Tom Thumb is perfectly okay. While it's hard to see Tomb Thumb from most photos, it's justified since he's supposed to be smaller in scale in comparison to the giant. Otherwise, it's a perfectly average scene and I wouldn't know what else to add to this besides maybe a log, but, I figure that wouldn't work out since it's a very loose connection.
1582681532437.png

Next of all is the Rumpelstiltskin sequence, which what I would fix here is making the Rumpelstiltskin Animatronic less horrifying by actually attaching his jaw to his body and making it so his Philtrum doesn't stand out as much in comparison to the rest of his body.

The Rapunzel scene is primarily okay, but, I would just fix the Rapunzel figure so it doesn't look like someone took a picture of the character and just shrunk her entire face and stretched it inwards for gits and shiggles.
Moving on, I would fix The Little Match Girl's Special Effects so it isn't so blatant that they figures are animatronics using Pepper's ghost in the sequence, and so they don't look so old, as long as adding some much needed polish to the scene. Other than that, it's a beautiful sequence and one of the best and most memorable in the entire set.

The Cinderella scene is perfectly fine also and like most of the park, has a beautiful antique feeling to it all, but, never feels completely out of touch with reality, and so it should be left as it is as anything else feels like it would detract from the scene.
I feel similarly about the Fairy Tale Tree, but instead of just that, it also feels like the perfect mix of a cartoon as well. It reminds me of all the trees from the Wizard Of Oz but without the whole trees being a threat plot there and instead it's a source of imagination. Plus, once again, I wouldn't want to screw around with the mechanics of something that was probably extremely expensive and doesn't need fixing.
The Emperor's New Clothes set is a straight down awesome use of Puppetry, and expanding on it would feel like I would be padding an already great sequence out long past it's proper expiration. Likewise, I can't think of a way to improve the cartoon aesthetic the show has, since it's already perfect the way it is.
1582681723723.png

The Pinocchio Sequence is a very interesting use of the immediate enviroment, but, I would just replace the tentacles on the Monstrous Fish so they curve back and don't look more like tentacles or frizzled hair and more like spines or a fin more like a lionfish, since otherwise it just looks weird on the monstrous fish. I would also add a Geppetto figure leaning out in the back so it doesn't look like Pinnochio is the sole survivor of the event.

Finally, I would just leave The Six Swans as they are since it's a genuine icon for the park, and it has that whimsical, beautiful, and delicate antique fantasy look I described earlier. There isn't much I would add here since we're supposed to be the swans in the story, and I feel like the burning scene would be too graphic. So, as a slight nod, I would add the crowns to the swans, but, give it the china look the rest of the swan boats have.

Sorry about not responding immediately. I should have the rest done by tomorrow. Does this fit in with the Trip Report type themes we're aiming for?

Remember that it is our POV of the ride. We are making a Trip Report style presentation.

Can you elaborate on this? I've got most of the day to myself tomorrow and finally have a day off work since this project started, so I'm planning on just spending a few hours in isolation mode and cracking out my Reynard project in one sitting. Want to make sure I get the format down before I start though :)

Imagine like you are in the park right now and just describing what you see/did. Feel free to add any fun elements to make it more entertaining.

The Baba Yaga family coaster is very much a new jewel in Eifteling's crown. I forgot to charge my phone and it died on me earlier so you'll have to forgive me for the lack of pictures.
The queue is a very basic back and forth switchbacks in a forest area and the load continues the forest theme but in the distance is Baba Yaga's chicken-legged house. The ride makes a turn and the action quickly begins as a basic Baba Yaga figure gives a laugh and the ride goes into a cave and a great dark ride segment happens where Baba Yaga threatens you with magic via projection and practical effects before she hops into her mortar and pestle and starts chasing us through a dark and twisted forest. This is where the coaster part comes in. It's all very low to the ground but the twists and turns, as well as sudden drops, really sell the idea of being chased by the witch. The ride escapes the forest and ends with Baba Yaga's laugh and a Dutch line that I assume meant "Don't come back" and we unloaded back into the forest.

I just got off of the new Reynard the Fox dark ride. The gist of the attraction I got was that since the character has so many different versions that each room represents a different historical era in which the stories were passed along. From my understanding the Reynard the Fox character is a classic trickster who was created to lampoon the upper class, so with this attraction we go through many different time periods...I believe eight in total, and see different versions of the title character causing chaos and disrupting the status quo of the upper class.

What I really enjoyed about this attraction was that not only was each time period represented by a different setting and distinction for the upper class parodies, we get different art styles and even full on designs for Reynard the Fox in each room. In some rooms we have realistic Jungle Cruise style AAs but anthropomorphized. In another room it will be much more of a classic style in the vein of Splash Mountain or the Disney Robin Hood. Some rooms use high tech projections and screens, other rooms use very simplistic black light dark ride effects. The mixed media of the attraction is meant to represent just how wide spread in storytelling the character goes.

Besides the title character of Reynard, other characters found throughout the attraction are Tibert the Cat, King Noble the Lion, Chanticleer the rooster, Bruin the bear, and a host of others. These characters can appear throughout the attraction in multiple different roles and situations, though only Reynard appears in every room.

Overall I thought Reynard the Fox was a great dark ride that sticks to the long standing old school traditions of the park while adding a new school touch, both in terms of technology and the unique way in which the vignettes are showcased. It's sure to be a classic dark ride for the park in the years to come and feels right at home with the other fairy tale and fable characters that call Eiftling home.

CHILDREN'S RAILWAY
For this classic attraction, what I would do is commission a new paint job to all of the white coatings on the trains, as the white, while very good for it's age, is starting to look quite a bit steely for it's age. Other than that, the train's themselves are fine.
As for the farm, I would like to add some hay bales to the sides of the farm to make it a little bit more blatant, but, otherwise? It's in fairly good condition and otherwise I'd rather not go over the top on it.

ANTON PIECK SQUARE
I couldn't get too much information for the square, and I am counting the carousels as completely different attractions, so I'm just going to focus on this statue of a Woman holding two of the most vicious beasts known to all of mankind aka The Goose Girl and The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs, though in this case it would be geese, I guess.
Generally, I would redo the geese parts of the sculpture so their faces don't look as weird, and redo the paint on the structure at it's starting to show the wood.

ANTON PIECK CAROUSEL
Truly a gorgeous marvel of the five carousels in the square, I think this ride would benefit from some lighting within the structure of the ride, because without it, you can't exactly see much of it and that's extremely disappointing when there are probably so many hidden details within the set. Other than that, I would leave it alone.

VERMOLEN CAROUSEL
This attraction looks a lot like the Anton Pieck Carousel, just with a different color palette. Nonetheless, I wouldn't want to add anything else to this attraction since it's basically the former but with the lights I was talking about, and anything else would detract from the current looks of what's currently there.
1582767355108.png

THE BUTTERFLY CAROUSEL
While the designs of the butterfly wings truly do make this attraction stand out quite well in the best sense, I do believe that some improvements could be made. The wheels, the axis's, and the rims should have it's rust removed and probably be repainted, as this detracts from a ride perspective. I also think the white sheet disguising the ride mechanics could maybe be replaced and have a more colorful patterned sheet that also has a mixture of white in it as well, and this new sheet should probably take it's colors from the ride itself.

LARGE SWING CAROUSEL
Next up, we have the Large Swing Carousel, which doesn't look too shabby and actually looks kind of cool, but, looking at it, there's something about it that generally feels off in a sense. I feel as if the Large Swing Carousel feels off because it sticks out too much in comparison to it's surroundings, however, I disagree with changing the Carousel itself because it's a relic of history and I wouldn't want to leave it in the past. So, I would probably redo the brick flooring surrounding the swing and possibly plant more flowers (preferably orange and yellow colored) next to the attraction so it doesn't look like a fish out of water.

LITTLE SWING CAROUSEL
Much like it's sister attraction, I have similar issues with this attraction as well, but less with this one since the booth next to it generally has a colorful and bright look and at least the floor looks colorful unlike the Large Swing. However, I would still paint the floor so it would have similar colorful designs to the booth and the swing itself, and maybe plant some flowers as well. Other than that, I would leave it be.

STOOMCARROUSEL
The particular carousel is a beautiful piece of engineering, and the fact that they managed to make a carousel this unique is amazing and is a testament to this park's beauty and creativity while all keeping this fantastical whimsy about it all. It manages to keep a major antique carnival feel without it feeling all too tacky. The only thing I would change is keeping the mechanics and poles on the ride better hidden as it tends to take out some of the immersion when you suck in the view and suddenly you can see how that sign to the right of you is being held up. That's all.
1582767376832.png

STOOMTREIN
While it's not the most exciting attraction in the park, I certainly wouldn't change a thing about the ride, as I think the scenic views the ride gives to the flora is well worth the ride. The only thing I would do is give the steam engines a quick polish as they look worn in some areas, but, otherwise look very clean and nice. Also, I would import more plants native to Europe to the area just to give it a little more spice to it all.

DIORAMA
Once again, not exactly the biggest thing in the parks, and after having a good run, I think the entire set could use some work. Preferably by adding better lighting to the entire diorama and making said lighting a bit more dynamic since it hasn't aged very well. I would also fix some of the paint on the set itself since it's starting to fade, but, also try to keep it blended so keep that mystical feel to it all.

HAUNTED CASTLE
A Genuinely solid attraction which is especially surprising since this was the second major one to be added to the park. The ride still holds up well regardless, even if it's a rollercoaster that expects you to be focused on the scenes even though you would probably be going at high velocities while riding it so you won't really get to focus on it. The only things I would do are maybe polishing up the sets against so they look fresher, and changing and fixing some of the animatronics to look and be more advanced as well as so they would looking more human like than they currently do.

PYTHON
I find this attraction to be just like something you would expect out of Knott's Berry Farm or Cedar Fair, which is something I see as a high praise. There isn't much to improve here expect maybe by refreshing the queue by redoing the height measurement man, and maybe making the queue broader for higher capacity. That and maybe repainting the rollercoaster vehicles for a quick refresh, that's all.
1582767398247.png

GONDOLETTA
Honestly, this is one of the few attractions in the entire park that maybe could've been done a bit better, since there isn't really much to see flora wise when you board the vehicles, and even then this ride has the problem of having it possible to see the supports of signs and some buildings nearby which can once again break immersion when you ride it. What I would do is probably locate funds to buy and plant some more exotic flora to put in the area just for the visuals, and then use the rest to cover up the sign supports, rod, etc.

CARNAVAL FESTIVAL
I didn't expect this attraction to have been as well executed as it did, and borderline expected it to be in the middle of the uncanny valley, but, it mostly wasn't except for a few parts and was actually charming! I would renovate the scenes that do look very uncanny so they look more cartoonish like the rest of the ride and locate funds for a better paint job for the animatronics as well since while in some cases the wood texture on the animatronics does fit with the flow, in some cases it doesn't and could probably do better without it. Also, I would probably make the exterior of the ride to look more exotic, colorful, and vibrant since it would look better with it.

POLKA MARINA
This ride is very surprisingly decorated for a swinging boat ride, but, even with that, I still think the ride could use some redecoration. For example, the waves on the side of the structure should be readjusted so they look much taller and way less like smoke, fog, or wind passing by, but, should only be slightly elevated upwards so they don't cover up the entire ride. Also, I would like to repaint the whale's eyes so they don't look as cross-eyed as they currently do right now. That, and disguise the ride's rods and supports much better.

TIN LIZZIES
Once again, this is an attraction that I feel as if it needs some improvement to it, with it's sometimes wonky controls and somewhat lack of a sight to see, could need a lot more to it in order for it to be it's best, so with that, I would atleast want to add a general explanation for the need to steer in the ride, but, also maintain the difficulty of the steering for fun by making the vehicles difficult to ride, yet, not bumpy to maneuver. Then, going with the themes the ride seems to be looking at, add some props based on the country side like perhaps a crop field, or maybe a sheep pen with some figures of sheep inside of it.
1582767429501.png

FATA MORGANA
Moving on to Fata Morgana, a classic dark ride attraction in the style of Pirates Of Caribbean but mixed with Sinbad. I do adore the attraction for what it is right now since two of the major monuments of the theme park world have seen to have almost completely given up on non IP rides, and this functions as a great alternative while still capturing the spirit. That being said, with our new budget, we can absolutely improve this ride substantially by improving the visuals of the AA figures and the sets around them by renewing them to look more modern, adding more nature in the intro scene, and perhaps even sticking a new animation or two into some of the figures.

PAGODE
There isn't much to this one as the others, so the only thing I'll add is perhaps an expanded roof, overhangs, and top to the observation tower, but, that's about it.

THE PEOPLE OF LAAF
While I do agree that this is indeed quite an odd attraction, it actually seems like quite a fun one and one that certainly is unique in character design and concept. I especially like the idea of visiting some other group of people entirely different from the rest. The only things I would do here are polish the animatronics and sets a bit, and maybe theme the monorail a bit better by making it look like a rail.

DREAMFLIGHT
Once again, this is a cult classic of the park itself, and there isn't much I would change about it other than once again polish the animatronic figures. Other than that, it's a solid ride that doesn't need much more to improve it, with the dynamic scenes and the stories that those scenes encapsulate. The ride system and how it moves throughout the ride is truly unique and before this ride came to fruition I had never seen anything quite like it before. Adding anything else would feel like I would be screwing up the pacing of the rides and there isn't much more to be told anyways.
1582767457135.png

VILLA VOLTA
Being one of the first of it's kind, this attraction doesn't seem to get a lot of attention despite having been a Kickstarter for an entire mechanical process that got spread far and wide all across the industry. That being said, I think all of the walls and benches inside the building should be repainted back to white, a creamy yellow, and a navy blue since that color scheme tends to work the best. Also, I would like to refurbish the entire Hugo Animatronic to once again look more modern since technology standards have been raised.

BIRD ROC
Originally quite a questionable attraction that suffered quite a lot of issues in it's early days and has slowly become a decent attraction, I would like to restore the Laser Light Show in the Queue, which could have it's eye damaging issues fixed by making the queue taller and putting the laser light show up there and have the lights have their aim adjusted so they don't go into people's eyes. Other than that, I would like to expand some of the show scenes for the ride, extending it substantially.

THE FLYING DUTCHMAN
I don't have too many issues with this ride, and I think it's okay for what it's worth, but that being said, I would like to redo the track in the beginning of the ride where you dip so the railing doesn't look quite as awkward, and maybe add a fresh paint of coat to it so it doesn't look so rusty. Also, I would fix the ride's lighting at night so it isn't so dim looking.
1582767478379.png

GEORGE THE DRAGON
Again, this isn't really an attraction that needs anything else added to it since it's pretty solid on it's own and while it's not Dreamflight levels of great, not everything has to be. I love how detailed and cool George looks at the center of the ride without ever looking unlike a dragon and being quite fluid despite his size. Only things I would add are some more towers in the George scene and a Sign of George at the entrance of the ride. That and trim the grass around him since it doesn't fit with George emerging in the scene.

RAVELEJIN
This is more of a show than an actual attraction, but, it still holds up as a well written Medieval Times type show even if it feels extremely short for the concept as I feel as if it would work better as a little longer of a show by giving the children more characterization and building up the beast and building up the Tyrant's personality. It would also be great if the Beast could have it's mechanics better hidden and have it's entire design refurbed as it's showing it's age.

AQUANURA
You know, this is an extremely stunning and beautiful night show, and maybe except for extending the show for some more cool tricks, I think it's perfect just the way the show currently is with all the dynamic lighting and colors.
1582767528063.png

BARON 1898
I love how cool and interesting this ride looks! I feel like the orange and cyan contrast well, and the wheels on the side give it this great technical look! I think it's actually fairly underrated and while I see alot of people complaining about open-air coasters, I think most of the coasters in this park are great, and I don't think it deserves the bad rep. What I would recommend is mainly just painting over the track again since for whatever reason it's starting to lose it's color? Yeah.., but, that's all.

SYMBOLICA
And now for the final renovation for the Park's magnum opus as of February 26th, 2020, is the Symbolica dark ride. It's not exactly a plot heavy dark ride but it's absolutely gorgeous in almost every way possible, down to the very structure of this ride. Seeing as it's recent, I don't think the ride needs much, other than a quick polishing for the checkered floors in the party scene and giving the king proper eyebrows. That's all.

That concludes our tour of De Eftelings old additions! As you can see, I didn't end up doing Fabula or Max & Mortis since both rides are extremely new and shouldn't be requiring any refurbs at this point, and the entrance got left out since the entrance is fine as it is and doesn't need a refurb. Thank you for taking the tour!
