Save the Adventurers Club

This is interesting. With all the talk of bringing back attractions this is the only one that I ever thought had a realistic chance of returning.

The things it has going for it are:

1. Nothing else is currently in it's space.

2. It was popular up until it closed. It wasn't cosed due to low crowds, but was sacraficed in a plan to re-engineer an entire area.

3. The area it is in has not seen the growth Disney predicted. The new marketing and utilization plan has not worked.

4. The re-establishment of the club would immediately bring foot traffic and excitement to the area that would spur further development.

5. It is a signature Disney experience. It is the one of a kind venue that only Disney could provide and people used to explain how Disney is different from other theme parks.

I'm trying to see it and present it from a business standpoint rather than nostalgic standpoint and even in bean counter mode there is a case to be made for returning the club.

^^Agreed. Whatever plans PI's replacement was going to have seem to be vaporizing, and I'm sure Joe Rhode might be pulling them to re-open it to at least bring something other than another empty building to that area.

Remember that one big problem with PI (both during it's time it was open and now when it's closed) is that it sits between 2 big shopping/dining areas. Going through a ghost-town between them doesn't do good things for Disney's image (or walking around it? I haven't been near there in a while to be honest)

They should re-open Adventurer's Club, open a Star Wars Cantina nearby and make it a mini-PI at least ;)

So, I spoke with "Right Guard" the other day, and two weeks ago, he did, in fact, see scaffolding inside the Main Salon and was worried that meant the chandelier was coming down. However, two days later he went by again and saw no scaffolding, the chandelier still up, and Bedouin Saddle Gear re-attached to the wall. About a week later, his brother wandered by and saw scaffolding up again and thought he saw more items being added to the walls. Well the next day, back "Right Guard" went and once again no scaffolding, the chandelier still up, and now the Bedouin Saddle Blanket back up next to the Saddle Gear. So, who knows what the heck is going on (hopefully more artifacts to the walls)!

KUNGALOOSH!

Could this be some sort of coded message??

True, and very interesting.

Hardly makes sense to put things back in the club if they are going to tear it down. This is good news! Keep us up to date. It certainly would be a bold new vision!

I could make sense if everything they're now doing is reaction to the recession.

True, not much up front cost and instant income. Far cheaper than tearing down the club and building something new or even retrofitting the club. Lets hope more stuff continues to find its way home. I really can find no other explanation of why they would pay a worker to put things back on the wall other than they maybe reopening.

Anyone else want to throw out a guess as to why they would be putting stuff back on the walls?

Rampant, uncontrolled nostalgia?

Hopefully Bob over at SavePI will float over and take a few pictures. I figured there would be more Hoopla over things just popping up on the walls?

Logically, IF the Club were to re-open (I have heard nothing but rumblings to the contrary), it would be right around October 1, the beginning of fiscal 2011. A month and a half away, but no liquor license and no auditions for actors. Just seems too far-fetched to me.

One last point in favour of it coming back. The resorts are under a new management team. It is much more likely and executive will reverse his predecessor's decision than his own.

what specifically has been hung or rehung on the walls of the AC recently????

On the save pleasure island blog KingBob reports seeing nothing new inside AC this past Saturday night. But then someone posted a comment in response that says the new items are behind the chandelier and consist of "two blanket type items" that had been previously taken down.

Seems strange to bring in scaffolding and remove it multiple times just to put a couple items back on the wall. The optimist in me says they may be inspecting the damage done to the walls when the props were taken down previously. The one or two items put back could be a test to see if the wall can be repopulated without making major repairs. Doesn't really explain removing the scaffolding though...

Not really a great theory. Just the desperate last ditch hopes of an AC fan. :)

Could be they are just hanging some items to maintain their integrity. Some things meant to hang, lose their shape if laid down or laid on their side. Some things are fragile and may be easily damaged if they fall off a shelf or are accidently stepped on. Perhaps these items are basically being "stored" on the wall. It doesn't make sense to me to just put one or two items back on the wall and then take down scaffolding if they're just going to put up more soon. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

an excellent point, but one would think they'd do that elsewhere if that's this action's only purpose..
