San Angel Inn for Lunch or Dinner?

I know this is not everyone's favorite restuarant, but my husband wants to try it. I have eaten here before, but only for dinner. And while it certainly is not the best place on property, I did enjoy it. Has anyone gone here for both lunch and dinner? Did you prefer one meal over the other? I was thinking of trying it for lunch instead and was looking for some input.

Thanks!

Be aware that the menu at San Angel has recently changed (for the better). I never much liked the place, but was encouraged to try the new menu and it was a significant improvement over what was being served previously. You might be pleasantly surprised this go 'round.

As for your question, there doesn't seem to be a discernible difference in quality between lunch and dinner there.

Lunch. The main difference is price, but we love San Angel. We go every trip because we love our steaks and chilaquiles and now they have the Bavarian cream mousse or whatever that is delicious.

We actually just decided to sacrifice San Angel for my birthday in a month in order to do 50s Prime Time and Boma for breakfast (since we're staying at AKL for the first time :D ) but the bright side is we'll get to enjoy the awesome cheese empanadas at Cantina San Angel :)

Boma breakfast is the best on property - enjoy!

Both are very good. Lunch at any of the table service restaurants will typically save you a few bucks over dinner and many times the food choices and serving sizes are the same at both meals.

The food is much better since the menu change. I have to agree with you that the menu/food was not all that good prior to the change.

Ohh, 50's Prime Time has slipped down my list since their menu change. They have recently created a combined lunch/dinner menu and removed some key entrees from the menu. Not good.

Boma is good, but Tusker House is right up there and has many of the same items for less $$.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am pleased that the food has improved. I have not been there since 2010 so I am looking forward to it. As we are not doing the dining plan this trip, lunch seems to be the way to go to save some money.

Well we never eat at any sit-down for dinner since it's too much $$ so the menu is the same to us  I love me some meatloaf :slurp:

We really enjoy San Angel and always choose to eat lunch there. The atmosphere is amazing and the food is good so we just prefer to eat the cheaper, less crowded meal

Even without the improved menu, how could you pass up the ambience? It makes it worthwhile!
