Hey everyone, its listed on allears.net that San Angel Inn closes for rennovation beginning May 10th, but says nothing else is known or when it will reopen. It could be more of a kitchen type thing for a few days or something bigger and longer but makes for interesting discussion anyway.

Probably the most disappointing quick service in EPCOT. I really hope the change up the menu/add some spice to their food. It's just too bland.

Its funny cause the rumor was that changes were coming to the one outside, not inside. And now it looks like the inside one is closing instead.

The plan is to update both.

I must say that while the food at Mexico is alright, the service and the prices kill the experience for me. I would rather go to one of the local Tijuana Flats in Orlando for an affordable, delicious and filling meal than spend my money at the San Angel Inn.

San Angel Inn has to be at the bottom of my table service options at the World Showcase... My list is as follows (from favorite to least favored):

  1. Le Cellier
  2. Tokyo Dining
  3. Chefs des France
  4. Tutto Italia
  5. Nine Dragons
  6. San Angel Inn

I agree with you, the food at San Angel is lousy and not worth the outrageous prices. I like your list there! Perfect order. Those are the ones we dine at the most except I havent been to Italy in ages so Nine Dragons would be number 4. How is tutto italia now, Ive heard mixed reviews. Hopefully San Angel will be better menu and food when it reopens, just dont mess with the atmosphere.

Next to the Beirgarten in Germany, the San Angel Inn is one of the nicer location themed areas to eat in World Showcase.

Its a shame it will be closed the day after I arrive in Disney.

If San Angel Inn didnt have the atmosphere it has, that place would be hurtin. The service is subpar, and so is the food.
I so agree with you. We finally gave up on this place. The last meal we had there was the equivalent of a tasteless Mexican TV dinner.
When I saw the title of this thread I was hoping that someone else was taking over this restaurant. While the atmosphere is outstanding, the food, and service are horrendous.

The prices are a little expensive but I have eaten there three times and never had a problem, service, food, and atmosphere was great.
I'm going back in April for my honeymoon.

I would have to say that Mexico has one of the coolest interior theming; I even enjoy the corny boat ride it has (though I liked it better before they added the 3 caballeros).

The full service dining is a joke, IMHO. The food isn't bad, but definitely falls into the "blah" category. Service is a abysmal, and the prices are way too high.

Hopefully the revamp will address these.

We were going to eat here for the first time on our trip in June but we decided to change our package to the 4 plus 3 and upgrade our hotel and drop the dining plan so we've dropped San Angel from our dining plans. Looks like it's just as well since it will most likely be closed when I'm there. Last I heard was that they wanted to close down one of the stores inside the pyramid and turn it into a tequila bar or something.

Not surprising. I think they are trying to make Mexico more lively - with a Margarita Bar inside and outside; a kitchen type restaurant inside that will be updated. The Mexico Pavillion is nice but it is rather boring. I did however enjoy the updated ride in Mexico.

Is this going to affect the ride at all? Please tell me they're not going to close that to fix the restaurant. I'm already upset that during my upcoming May trip TTA is closed because of the SM rehab.

On our last visit, I had the sirloin tips with black beans, tortillas and cheese and thought it was delicious -- the Margaritas are great (don't taste like slurpees) -- so I'm not sure what all the San Angel hatin' is all about.

IMO, the QSR out front has had a substantial hit in quality over the past year or so. I skip that now on our "lunch around the world trip", and just start off in China for some pot stickers. yum!

Had eaten at San Angel the past 2 trips (June 07 and Oct 07) was very satisfied. Went their on recent trip Wednesday Feb 4, 08. It was a last minute reservation on our arrival day. Our entire family was disappointed.

The menu has changed and we were all disappointed. It was our fault to not check the menu first. Been to Walt Disney World enough times to know that menu's change. Hopefully it will improve in the future.
