Safari animals real?

I can't tell you how many times guests would ask us that question. They also would ask us if we were really driving the trucks or if they were on a track. I guess they finally figured it out when we would hit those big pot holes!:brick: Everybody would always ask if the Crocs were real too. Trust me they are, I've seen them being fed. :slurp: Also, going back to the rocks being heated for the Lions, they are mostly cooled for those long summer days so that they are more visible.:animwink:

They're animated figures. Not animatronics. Sorry, the JC is my ride and I'm about it. :ROFLOL:

I'll take the bait. What is the difference between an animated figure and an animatronic? I never heard a distinction made before, I assumed they were they were one and the same.

They are indeed real. We were there mid Sept this year and encountered a cranky rhino. He was in the road at first so we sat waiting for him to move and when he did, he moved directly at us and actually lifted the front of our truck. Now tires didn't leave the pavement, but you could feel the fact he was lifting. Then he proceeded to take aim on another rhino and they were literally 10 to 15 feet from the side of the truck when they charged each other. Needless to say, my heart skipped a beat because it actually borderline scared me. They were so stinking close. It was a safari I'll never forget.

They are real.

But this leads me to wonder what it would be like if they weren't real. Imagine walking animated figures of all kinds, on two legs, or on four... eating, defecating, having babies. I think the wonder of that would be more magnificent than real animals!

The ostrich eggs are not real, or if they are real, then they are REEEEAAAAALLLLY unviable... as they have been in the same place for over 4 years unmoved.

Animated figures run on compressed air, and are much less sophisticated than AAs, which run on hydrolic fluid. JC can't use hydrolic fluid because it could leak into the water and contaminate it. That's why you will never see something as realistic as something out of Dinosaur in the JC.

Does anyone know if all of the animals in the safari ride at Animal Kingdom are actually real? Some people have surmised that certain animals in there wouldn't be able to live in that kind of environment, and as such, may be animatronic....I doubted it, but wanted to see if anyone else (especially any cast members) has an opinion or information.

ha ha yes, or at least the ostrich that came after our vehicle is! ha ha  Yes, they are all real except the little red at the end.

I was under the impression that the original AA (A-1) used in the Tiki room, used pneumatic actuators under pressurized air. And they are in fact Audio Animatronics as they use (at least originally) the audio tapes in order to run the pneumatic actuators. So I'm not sure it matters whether or not they use pneumatics or hydraulics. But I could be totally wrong.

Anyone care to settle this friendly dispute?

A couple behind us this past trip kept talking about how the animals couldnt be real. I kept laughing at all their reasons and then right as we started onto the savannah, a wildebeast was right there walking right along the road and the woman screamed! I couldn't stop laughing because apparently they had no idea that they were real. Then they started saying that it was too dangerous :lookaroun

You can tell the ones that aren't real - they have wheels under their feet so they can be moved around the park and so don't appear in the same location twice :hammer:
