Also this comment has me worried. I can easily see Disney scrapping rundisney all together. I get they want to wait for covid to be over but still......

I wouldn’t read too much into that...that comment has been used for every virtual transition.

If they were planning on scrapping it they wouldn’t retheme the race for 2022.

Bright Suns Galactic Runners. A lot of negative waves due to the Rival Run going virtual. I understand, but, for me. myself and I (yes, all three) we will still be going to WDW during the time frame the event would have taken place. At leisure will run around the resort, enjoy the Kingdoms and hang out in Batuu. I just wont be getting up and corralling up in the dark as Han Solo said "never tell me the odds". To me the going and being there has more value than the medals.

That makes me mad also. I don't need another Disney gift card I won't use anytime soon. So if I decide to switch to virtual, I'll just register and then cancel the on-property registrations.

Love the postive attitude and play on words!! A lot of people will still come down to run. I live here so if you want to hang out - let me know!

Far far FAR less people I'm assuming. I'm also guessing Disney doesn't want to be associated, in ANY way, with a potential "super spreader" event. It stinks...but welcome to 2020. I'm HOPING wine/dine 2021 will happen

That said I think RunDisney could have done it. Logistically it’s a mess though. I’d imagine race transportation is probably one of the biggest concerns since busing is the main thing in use there.

Correct - on a typical year, Space Coast caps at 7600 runners. This year, they had about 3100 in-person runners spread out between two courses (north/south half and full marathon). Disney would’ve had to severely cap registration - and reconfigure the course to avoid pinch points (that stretch to the BoardWalk is terrible even in a non-pandemic situation).

And I agree, although it’s been almost 2 weeks and I haven’t heard of any contact tracing issues from the race, all you’d need is 1 individual to claim they got sick on Disney property - especially from a racing event - and the news media would be all over it.

People on Reddit and FB are discussing which race will be the next in-person. General consensus seems to be 2022 WDW Marathon Weekend. Such a depressing thought. I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to run Space Coast, as it will most likely be my only one for the next year. 🙁
