runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend

Demarke

Have I told you lately that I 👍 you?
Can anyone point me to prior experiences for the night time 5K at AK? I’d like to get an idea of what it will be like.
I had the same question, here’s a pretty good run down of the last one in 2014 or 2015: https://www.themouseforless.com/blog_world/expedition-everest-5k-final-challenge/

This time, based on the announcement today, the scavenger hunt will apparently be during the race rather than after and it doesn’t seem that there is any mention of the optional obstacles in this one.

Maps for the old Everest and ToT races can be found here if you scroll far enough 😃: http://www.magicofrunning.com/rundisneymaps

Haha, the optional obstacles! I remember they had they large nets you had to crawl under, and my husband and I looked at each other and went, “no way!” And walked around them. 😂 More power to the people who actually did it, but yeah…

I’ll be curious to see how the scavenger hunt portion works. It was kind of a cluster at the transfer point to get your first clue. It’d be nice if they worked out something smoother. I’m curious if they’ll utilize the punch card thing on the bibs like during that one ToT race.

Yes
I"m really really REALLY not happy that I can't run these. ToT was always a 'bucket list' race that I never got to do.

Edit: Looking at the ToT course from years past and it's all Osceola Parkway running....AND it's not at night? Paaaaaaaassssssssss

I’m sure this is another typo, but I noticed on the Disney Parks blog announcement the Everest 5K is listed as happening on April 1, while on the website it’s listed as March 31st. I tend to believe runDisney’s website being that March 31st date. That would explain the expo confusion of it’s April 1st. Like I said though, I think it’s March 31st.

Is commemorative merch worth prepurchasing? I’m probably going to want to buy stuff at the expo that isn’t part of the prepurchasing. I also kinda want to see what I am buying.

That being said given the strength of the themes, and it hopefully being my first LIVE runDisney race I definitely am going to want to purchase merch.

Are annual pass holder discounts an option when it comes to pre purchasing or at the expo?

Pre-ordering is my preference. But no AP discounts on pre-ordered items.

Prior to COVID, you didn't have to wait in that line to pick up pre-ordered merchandise.

This may be a weird question, but does anyone have any experience registering for a runDisney race at Disney? Right now, I will be on a trip down to Disney during Springtime Surprise registration. Which also means I’ll probably just have access to a phone. Do I have a better chance at securing a spot by staying back at my hotel? Should I attempt it while being at a park?

Also, this would be my first in-person registration as opposed to the virtual. It seems to be the same but any tips? I also have a couple off friends trying to register but they won’t be on the trip.

We all want to run the challenge, which helps since all races are included. Instead of purchasing the challenge then trying to go for the 5K.

EDIT: What’s the general timeline on how fast the in person challenges go during “normal” times. Do they usually stick around longer then the individual race distances? I haven’t really done anything with runDisney during “normal” in person times. Since I only started this hobby during all this. The in-person registrations that I have been around for seemed easier to secure a bib still nerve wracking but much easier. This is all based on observations.

EDIT #2: Given the themes of the races, I expect this to go fast. Since they are past themes returning.

EDIT #3: I should of specified I meant smartphone so registering the exact same way like everyone else. I also should of specified was planning on using cellular data as it seemed more reliable. Even for things like virtual queues.

Any insight would be great!

I've never registered by phone. I always use my smartphone to register. The day registration opens to the general public, especially a new race series, may be difficult to get rD staff on the phone.

As long as you've got a good wifi connection, you'll be okay. Although I wouldn't use Disney's unsecure wifi to register and input a credit card number.

Honestly I would not. If you are going to run one of the races, sign-up on-line and make sure of your entry.
I have never heard of anyone signing-up by phone.

Ok. 🙂

I've registered for races while at WDW before. Never had an issue. But I stay in my resort room to do so.

Usually the 10K goes first because bibs have been set aside for the challenge. This however, is the inaugural year of the series, so things may go fast.
