runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend

Have I told you lately that I 👍 you?
Interesting it’s a new website. I couldn’t even find these maps.
The course, start, and finish maps are under Event Schedule. The site appears to still very much be in the process of being finalized (maps aren’t up in the Maps tab yet, some grammatical/phrasing errors like referring to the 10-Miler as a 10-Mile in Faron’s message). I’d suspect that they’ll have it more polished and officially announce the site in a day or two.

Speaking of mistakes in the draft, I suspect these Photopass codes for the 5k and 10-miler may change 😁

***UPDATE: I’m guessing RunDisney started to get overloaded with questions/complaints about missing information from folks after the website leaked this morning, they’ve password protected it now until it’s finished…

Expo starts 2 weeks from Thursday. Guess rD likes to wait until the last minute. 🙄

What I saw before they password protected the site is that buses start running for all 3 races at 3:00 AM.

I did add the races as events to my Google calendar.

Yep, and no monorail or skyliner transport for any races. Drivers park at AK for 5k, Epcot for 10K and 10-miler.

Have to be parked no later than 9:15pm for 5k, no later than 4:00am for 10k and 10-miler.

Also, here’s the start/finish maps:

Very happy that HWS seems to be getting plenty of park time for the Tower of Terror 10-miler. Running though Galaxy’s Edge AND Toy Story Land should be very fun. This is the first time this has happened I assume.

The 10K course is not what I expected. Maybe it’s because they are trying to put the focus on HWS during the Tower of Terror 10-miler. I would of thought the 10K would of went though the studios.

5K course looks good. Happy to be running though Pandora. A 5K though AK is so unique.

Extremely excited for this race weekend, the themes are exciting as well. Ready to break down the full guide/expo guide when it releases.

Race for the Taste used to be a point-to-point course starting at WWoS, so they didn’t have to worry about looping the course and could run it through DHS. As fun as the old course was, having to park at Epcot and take a shuttle bus to WWoS was a pain. And there’s not enough distance to get there from Epcot (plus no bottleneck by the BoardWalk - save that for Sunday 😂).

After seeing how much of a cluster the start of the Princess Half turned into (and the apparent shortage of charter bus drivers), I think they made the right choice. They seem to be all-in on creating as many Epcot start/finish looped courses as possible.

Throwback to the old Race for the Taste that was the precursor to the W&D Half. Which I believe was run through Epcot.

BTW, the "virtual" guide is cumbersome, poorly arranged and confusing.

And when you select the Course Maps option, nothing is there.

If it wasn't broken.....

From the guide:

SCAVENGER HUNT INSTRUCTIONS

DESCRIPTION:

Six clues will open as you go forth on your 5K trek. You are encouraged to open and solve them after you complete the 5K course.

GETTING STARTED

Use a smart phone or tablet to access and play the game. The game supports most iOS and Android devices running iOS version 11.0 and above or Android version 4.4 or above. Ensure the device:

  • Is fully charged
  • Has mobile data enabled
  • Has established connection to mobile data, or Wi-Fi
  • Has GPS enabled
  • Has the sound all the way up

HOW TO PLAY

  • Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to download the Mobile Adventures app. Scan the QR code you will receive with your bib at the Expo.
  • Choose "allow" on all the pop-ups.
  • Select “Yes” when prompted to allow the app to access your camera and microphone
  • Enter your name and take a selfie for your profile
  • Now you are ready to play!
  • Navigate the app with the menu located in the top left corner of your screen.
  • Your goal is to complete all the challenges listed under Tasks on the dropdown menu.
  • Some tasks will be available immediately.
  • Clues will only open as you visit locations indicated with an icon on the Map. When they open, you can choose to solve the clue then, or better yet, wait until you complete the course.

NAVIGATING THE APP

On The Dropdown Menu:

  • Map - Where you will view the map of the course and where hotspots marking clue locations can be found.
  • Tasks - Where all the pre-race tasks and clues you opened on the course can be found and completed.
  • Game Info – Important information, tips and tricks about the game.

Maps are now up, and the pictures are up under every individual race.

Definitely confusing I have to say though, I like the new calendar system.

The interactive maps are up now under “Maps.” But, the other same mistakes are still in the guide from when it first leaked. Faron still refers to the 10-Miler as the “10-Mile” in the welcome:

But, way more importantly and sure to cause problems for people if it’s not fixed soon, is the Photopass codes are still screwed up.

They have EXPD as part of the code for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler and have TZTT as part of the code for the Expedition Everest 5K.

I’m sure it will all make sense during the actual race, but the steps for the mobile app aspect of the 5K are needlessly stressing me out, lol! I kind of miss the old cards that you’d be handed at each stop.

I get that they probably don’t want runners stopping and solving clues every few feet, but I’m curious how this will work post-race. In the past, you’d go back into the park and end at Dinoland, but they’ve left it a little ambiguous this time. I’m sure they don’t want runners and clue-seekers bumping into each other. 🤔
