Rumors from abroad

It is rare that I ever get to contribute to the great rumor mill, seeing as I am stuck perpetually in Chicago until the wife and I move down to Florida. Due to a chance encounter I was able to glean an interesting but scary rumor. Maybe this was told to me on the chance it would appear here... or maybe it may come to pass. I leave the veracity of this rumor in your capable hands.

Universe of Energy may be going the way of Horizons and World of Motion- IE destroyed to make room for a new exhibit. I took this news with abject terror as I find the inuendo-filled Ellen show quite entertaining. I asked about what would go in its place...

Monsters Inc dark ride, but one different from that in California. It WOULD be energy themed, but done in such a way as to keep people awake.

What does everyone think?

i don't know anything about the validity of the rumor, but i think a monster's inc energy ride would be really cool. i probably wouldn't expect it to happen for a few years. did the source say anything about a timetable?

Yeah, as the ride progresses something makes the crowd scream and the lighting goes crazy! Just a thought! I could see the tie into energy.

Well, as rumors go, that's a very interesting one. I could see the tie in with energy as well.

I didn't even realize how Energy would fit with Monsters Inc. until you mentioned that. I personally would probably prefer the ride system of UoE to stay the same no matter what, but I wouldn't be devistated if they started over here.

Sure it is just a rumor, but I think it is a great idea and would be a big FAMILY hit for Epcot. I hope that there is some truth here.

WOW! If you had asked me to come up with an attraction for "Energy," i would have NEVER thought of this... and as ODD as it sounds to me... it sounds like an EXCELLENT IDEA! So many possibilities!

I agree it is living up to the ideal of capturing the attention of the young and then actually doing something informative and creative.

If it is handled right I think it could be a winner. But isnt Monsters Inc getting past its peak?

Now if even 1 in 5 of these rumours came to pass :D

*sigh* I KNOW it's Disney and all, but I'm so sick of these movie tie-in attractions replacing classic, original attractions. BUT I do like Monsters, Inc. and at least they're TRYING to keep with the energy theme, and it WILL provide something that the whole family can do at Epcot (which, as we all know, is becoming quite rare, especially on that side of Future World). Eh, I dunno...I guess I'd be more willing to let UoE go than SSE. I haven't been on UoE since the video changed, even though I've wanted to see the updated video. BTW, is it still Ellen with Bill Nye the Science Guy, or did they change it to just Ellen? I adore Bill Nye!

I'd probably see it more that they would make it laughing instead of screaming like at the end of the movie, it's a lot more powerful in the movie and i think it would be more kid friendly. Great idea for an energy ride though.

If there has to be a change, at least I was told that the exhibit would become a dark ride. That sounds to me that at least we'll hopefully see something with its heart in the right place.

Even though I agree this would be a good tie in to energy, I was hoping
a Monsters, Inc. dark ride would be placed where 20,000 Leagues was in
the Magic Kingdom. I honestly like the Ellen version of Universe of Energy.
The first time I rode Universe of Energy was in 1992 and I had a hard time
staying awake, never mind my son, who was only 4 at the time.

You are correct! I forgot about the ending.....I guess I will have to go watch it again to get up to par!

Interesting rumor....it would be funny if it came to pass, because that would mean another Pixar movie gets representation in Epcot...I repeat EPCOT... :lookaroun....I can see why they would do it, after all they need a more family friendly attraction in that area of the park....maybe Monsters Inc characters will just be incorporated into the ride...the same way Ellen was? Doors did exist when the dinos roamed no? :lookaroun

A new dark ride is just what Epcot needs...very interesting rumor.

So far, I am loving this rumor. I hope it comes true. I agree with objr, EPCOT does need a new family friendly dark ride.

Monsters Inc. takes place in a power plant, so I see the tie-in. I do like Ellen though, and find UofE to be entertaining and informative. I always thought that just a little editing was all it needed.

UoE days are numbered, but how many days are left is the real question. Since it's a fairly entertaining attraction and WoL needs the attention. It should be around for a little while longer if you had to ask me (but what do I really know?)

I'm all for a larger sized Monsters Inc. ride. Epcot needs more family friendly attractions. UoE only appeals to adults/teens who have waaaay too much time on their hands and a brutally long attention span.

I never understand the problem with movie tie ins for rides. I enjoy them. Granted I don't need EVERY ride to be a movie tie in, but Mission Space, Test Track & Soarin are not. It's not the Nemo pavillon, so adding a Monsters ride is a pefect idea & gives parents & kids more reasons to visit Epcot. People loved the movie, it DESERVES an attraction.

What I dislike is attractions centered around 'celebreties'. Waaaay too tacky and gets dated very quickly. I don't want to be reminded of real life at Disney, seeing celebreties, give me animated characters over celebs any day of the week.

This rumor has been around for a few years already back when project gemini was in full swing. I would love for this to actually happen. I'm not to excited about another pixar tie in but honestly I hate what is there now and would love this change. I think its a perfect tie in and will bring new life to this very boring attraction.

no, No, NO! I know this is only a rumor but please keep Pixar out of Future World! Epcot just has so much meaning and potential and we would eventually lose that if a Monsters Inc ride replaced UoE. I'm all for change and growth in Epcot but do it wisely- don't lose what the park was based on. I personally love the current UoE. Its perfect- funny and yet still informative of the many ways we obtain energy (UoE's original focus). It shows how man interacts with energy, how we have obtained it in the past, and how we will in the future (so its relative to future world). Even though it will be a decade old next year, I still find it relevant, entertaing, and well worth going on again and again. I also think Ellen and Bill Nye have some great comedic chemistry. I agree that Epcot needs more for the family and specifically for children, but there must be some way that we can stay clear of relating Epcot pavilions to Pixar movies!
