RUMOR: Pirates of the Caribbean Replacing Peter Pan in “FANTASMIC 2.0” Show at Disneyland in 2017

Is there something wrong with being politically correct? Women have been underrepresented in SW, so they should be given a spotlight in the series, right? The same could be said for Disney princes. Call it whatever you want but "political correctness" isn't a bad thing, at least not in this context.

PC has a ceiling, and its been taken past that ceiling to ridiculous heights. its snowballed into its own walking parody.

I'm all for freshening up Fantasmic!. When it was created in 1991 for its 1992 debut there wasn't a whole lot of newer Disney animation to draw from, unless you wanted a Rescuers Down Under segment. So we got major plot elements based on The Jungle Book and Dumbo.

Now it's 2016 and they are redoing the entire show for 2017, which is probably 15 years late but better late than never. Of course they should use all the popular animated characters of the last decade or so for the new show. If they didn't do that they would lose the audience. Let's just hope we don't have to wait another 25 years for a major refresh.

Fantasmic! should be updated with new material and major new acts every 10 years or so.

Beauty and The Beast was released in 1991, so it was the newest film represented in Fantasmic! when in debuted in 1992. It's astonishing (and rather sad) that the program has gone this long without an update to some of the IP used in the show, especially considering how much is available to work with.

Yes, I agree with this completely. I am 100% on-board with more Princes, everywhere! ;)

Not everything is a princess movie. Of course the princesses are the leads in the princess movies. That doesn't mean Disney lacks male leads.

Buzz & Woody, Lightning McQueen, Nemo, Sully & Mike, Ralph, Russell & Carl, Wall-E, Remy, etc.
I hate to be "that guy," but those are all Pixar characters.

When it comes to male leads from Disney we're pretty much left with Ralph and Hiro from recent movies. Flynn and Nick were supports to the lead.

I said "recent." All those movies are either over, at, or just under a decade old. Otherwise Aladdin would've definitely been in my list.

Like I said, male lead movies are few and far between and are definitely not hyped as much. This isn't a new thing, think of all the original disney movies from the past. I guess you can kinda count dumbo as a male, or mogli, but what else? Hunchback?

I'd argue otherwise actually! They've made a very concerted effort to 1:1 their male vs female targeted and led movies in this second reinassance. Of course the male led ones tend to fade because of the Eisner-era Disney Princess merchandise gold mine.

We have Bolt to PatF, Tangled to WIR, Frozen to BH6, the supremely gender neutral Pooh (male led though technically). Zootopia spent most of its development life led by Nick, but actually shook out to be one of the few fleshed out Male supporting characters in any Disney movie. Is Zootopia just about the only male support that isn't the shallow comedic support/love interest/villain? Plus one of the few female leads that isn't a complete Mary Sue or is driven by love.

For Moana we have Gigantic and for Frozen 2 there is WIR2.

Dis Animation is doing a pretty good job. Pixar was terrible until very recently. Star Wars is actually doing a somewhat inadvertent job of balancing things. Marvel definitely is way too male heavy.

Honestly I don't really care either way. Just making a point. If it works for the story, doesn't feel forced to make it "PC," and I'm entertained, that's all that matters :)

This reminds me of the "Girl Show Ghetto" trope from Tv Tropes about female leads.
