RUMOR: Pirates of the Caribbean Replacing Peter Pan in “FANTASMIC 2.0” Show at Disneyland in 2017

Yeah, unfortunately nothing's guaranteed. Sure it's been down, but we don't know for sure if they've been working on Murphy.

There was some blog or website I read this week, for the life of me I can't think of it at this late hour after a dinner party that ran very long, but it said that Murphy had recently been removed from Tom Sawyer Island and taken backstage in pieces. The blog or site said that Murphy was getting a big mechanical refurbishment outside of its Island lair that it has been in since 2009.

Surely someone else read the same thing somewhere and can link to that.

Yeah, isn't that great!?! You are right, that is a big part of how special it is, when it all just packs up and disappears into thin air at the end.
Totally agree!

I found that magical, disappearing effect worked better before they added the green nukes, when the lights simply folded inward and everything went dark.

As for POTC, I've been hearing that rumor for a little while now and it's grown on me. I love the Peter Pan section, but POTC is right at home playing across from the ride. Hopefully it will transition well to and from the rest of the show. I wonder what the other new segments are? My gut tells me Pink Elephants aren't safe.

It took me about 15 minutes to wrap my head around the Peter Pan segment going away to become POTC. And now I'm ready for the change and think it could be a great upgrade.

I would be totally fine with losing the first five minutes of Fantasmic! and coming up with a more coherent, more relevant, more recognizable way to introduce the show and open its first act. And those Princess barges need help. Although I would hope they keep that luscious lady's 1992 voiceover as the intro, especially the "Welcome to Fantasmic!" part; that just seems so iconic now they shouldn't really change it.

Everyone's assuming they're just going to switch out the Peter Pan part. I feel like the entire show will be refreshed, which makes the Peter Pan segment switchout more tolerable to me. I don't know the specifics of what's happening (does anyone?) but it seems like that's the plan.

If there is a Holiday edition would be cool seeing WInter stuff, and ending it before Pirates is Elsa's winter magic during Let It Go with the scrapped world of color version spiraling out of control in Mickey's dream.

What is Murphy?

Pet nickname for the Fantasmic! Dragon.

The best part is, as it all rises out and appears before you, by the last stroke of music it is all gone again, as if nothing happened.

Like others, I agree that this is a very cool, unique aspect of our Fantasmic!

I'll go one step further (or back) and say that the tech-geek in me really enjoys the gradual transformation of the NOS side of things. People show up, staking claim on their viewing spots, then the lighting rigs and show control equipment rises up out of ground. Then lighting operators start climbing the poles, and you know it's almost showtime.

God I hope so. Fantasmic is cute and all, but a new show from top to bottom would be appreciated.
