I like planning, but I'll admit things are a bit out of hand, I also don't begrudge folks who don't enjoy planning when on vacation. However saying that a vacation at WDW is SUPPOSED to be relaxing - that to me isn't the case at WDW. It CAN be VERY relaxing, shopping dining, water parks, pool, resort hopping, shows, etc. and you can take advantage of all of that with little to NO planning!

However if you plan on hitting all or a lot of the rides at 4 of the most popular, gigantic theme parks in the world, then you're going to have to plan or you can throw anything that resembles relaxing out the window.

It is all part of the price of the popularity of the place. I think everybody wishes for lower crowds but there is no reason to expect them so planning is better than the alternative to me.

Silly question, but what is the purpose of having anything that is ONLY available via FP+, if those FP+ options are available to everyone? Is this Disney's way to encourage even more people to focus on meeting characters instead of experiencing the other attractions with those passes?

You must know why. AP holders are not wanted in the parks as much as the once a year visitor. Same goes for cast, as far as I know they still do not have the less than magic bands.

Quoted me from months ago.... LOL.

Your observation is accurate tho.

I can't help but think we don't know the full story yet. It doesn't make sense to have something be FP+ only unless... your model is over-subscribe so much to account for no-shows.. so much that everyone will have to wait a significant time. Thus eroding any value of FP for the guest.. which means the only purpose is to 'eat up FP allocations' from guests.

Think... I promised you 3 FPs... but I really want to limit your use of FPs.. so here is a way to make you basically throw one of those away to experience something you want and this is the only way to see it.

That's pretty much what I was thinking too. It's just that it seems misleading to call it a FP+ when the whole idea of a FP is that you're getting to jump to the front of the line after waiting elsewhere. That's not really the case if everyone in the line has a FP. Might as well call it something else... unless they are trying to cut into FP usage by diverting some of that usage into something that isn't technically a FP at all.

This. Not a fan of this move. Fastpass+ has always relied a certain amount on naive guest behavior (FP+s for Imagination and Stitch) but actually requiring FP+ for experiences that used to be available to everyone seems like a major disservice to guests.

I'm also wondering if when I use my 3 fp+s are these then still available to me? I mean then it makes even less sense. EVERYONE can use FP+s so everyone can see this. Why take away a standby line to create a standby line of FP+ users. Everything Disney does, they do for a reason (whether we agree with it or not) so we will just have to wait and see what this is all about.

This has to be true. APs could conceivably come to Disney 20-30 days a year, while a traditional vacationer might come once every few years to stay on-site for a week, and dump in enough money to pay for 3 years of annual passes.

That means WDW is providing many times the services for the AP. What incentive would they have to sweeten their experience?

If anything, their goal is to make the far less experienced traveller's experience as smooth and as enjoyable as possible (to encourage more frequent visits) and if that experience comes at an AP's expense, then win-win for Disney.

Where does it say these are FP+ only?

Odd. It definitely said they were FP+ only as late as last night when I first looked at them. Not sure why Disney would be changing this on the fly, but there has clearly been a very recent change in the information on the website.
