Hopefully an expansion to DHS and AK too???
I'm in the minority, but I'd be in favor of not only tearing up any monorail rehab/expansion plans, but also demolishing the current monorail system, if it meant getting much needed improvements to AK, EC & DHS.
While I know my wish about ditching the monorail system will never happen, I also think there is ZERO chance that TDO commits almost 3 BILLION dollars to a monorail expansion/upgrade.That will never happen.. Monorails and Disney are like Bread and butter... It's expected..
Here's what I've heard, last I knew this was still a 'plan', nothing had been green lit.. but, perhaps that has changed.
- 2.6 billion over 3 years
- New trains, supporting MAPO-X (New custom monitoring and control system)
- New, State of the Art, Monorail Central.. To be constructed next to the Epcot Platform
- Expansion of the current beamway to service additional guest areas.
- Construction of a new rectifier structure near Osceola and World Drive interchange. This would be to provide conditioned power and monitoring for the expanded beamway.
- Fitting of the AK Power substation for voltage rectifying for beamway expansion.

I have no doubt this is the case. From what I understand a large scale monorail expansion was right about to be green lit before 9/11. I'll wager that there is a spread sheet where someone can input the current price of labor. concrete, steel, etc and generate a current cost for expansion. I just do not see Disney doing it until they have no other choice.I am sure Disney keeps tabs on what it would cost - and how they would implement a monorail expansion. They have done that since the 1980's. That being said - it hasn't been greenlit, because it will never happen. The opportunity was passed up by the most ambitious of management and executives...To assume the current corporate heads would give this "the go" is simply crazy talk...

They are getting close. At some point the system will become cost prohibitive due to it's age. (I know it has probably already been depreciated 9 times over)I have no doubt this is the case. Right now there most economical choice is the expand the bus fleet. I do not think we will see monorail expansion until that reaches its limit. How could they ever not have another choice?

well idk about you guys but idc about the expantion i just want the $1,000!An expansion will never happen. Quote me on it. If it does, everyone on this thread gets $1,000, guaranteed.

I love hearing the hypocritical double-talk of some of the people on these boards. On the one hand you say Disney is a money-grubbing, penny-pinching Scrooge of a company that has let the entire WDW resort fall into decay for over a decade; and on the other hand some of you actually believe, at any point in those same ten years (or 20, for that matter) that Disney actually considered blowing $3 billion on a proprietary, slow-moving, too-few-passenger-carrying, insurance-risk of a transportation nightmare? Seriously? For a property twice the size of Manhattan, I realize buses may not be as futuristic or romantic as a monorail, but get used to them, because when a bus breaks down, it can be replaced in ten minutes; when the monorail breaks down, people sue (or lose their life as was the case). The monorail will never be expanded, not even if the resort were taken over by private ownership or the executive of your dreams came into power. Expansion plans have not been on the table since the early 1980s, from Epcot to Lake Buena Vista Village (now DTD). See the picture below.

Get monorail expansion qualified as a green energy jobs initiative and the money will roll in....Someone give/donate/sponsor Disney the 3 Billion to do the "expansion", just so I can get my $1,000 from him.
