Guests paying that much $$$ per night at the GF should expect the lights to work. It's basic maintenance at WDW's premiere resort. This isn't a question of whether or not it's personally acceptable; this is the flagship resort for the flagship park and the d*mn lights don't work.

I agree BLT I don't know what their problem is! Lol. One reason why we never stayed there is the now conditions in some of their rooms and the resort is not really homey and welcoming to me (seems like a corporate office building) but we do go to visit the Top of The World lounge every trip. Kidani opened shortly before them and the rooms still look good and have not noticed any major wearing in most areas. I take pictures in all our rooms every trip there and had nothing that stood out that needed to be repaired or given some love. If I owned at BLT I would be highly dissapointed at the state of the rooms so I don't blame you on this one.
We want to buy some points at VGF but have no desire to at BLT nor ever really did. Now I'm glad I never bought at BLT hearing your issues. Lol. We love staying at VGF and Kidani the most. We also enjoy SSR and The Boardwalk (regular rooms and DVC side). :)
We would love to trade our BLT points in and get Poly or VGF... Initially we loved BLT...but have been so disappointed with the way the rooms are kept.
I am curious to see what our experience will be like at the Bungalows... Still not sure why they did not do a Grand Villa option at the Poly... Hmmm.

I wonder if the fact that the old filament bulbs are being phased out (extremely hard to find them here in Europe now) is having any impact or not. Maybe they are waiting to replace them with LEDs and don't want to waste money on buying ever increasing expensive bulbs that are going to be replaced.?

It's as simple as that, well said.

Lighting issues are not just at the Grand, there are issues everywhere. As of recent, Tomorrowland has had a lot of lighting and neon out too. In my eyes they are easy fixes, but there are two "excuses" that WDW uses. 1. Some lighting in high reach areas and on rooflines are limited with new OSHA fall protection standards, the same reason all the ropes and railings are on top of many roofs. 2. These are all issues on lists of many maintenance issues needing attention but typically burnt out lightbulbs are lower priority than some other issues. They get put at the bottom of the list. As more important issues keep piling in, the less important ones keep getting pushed down on the list to the point that they don't get taken care of in a timely manner.

These "excuses" still baffle me for a comany that trys to pioneer new technology, sees record profits, and built its heritage on quality and showmanship. TDO needs to get it all TCO. People do notice!

I am curious. Those that are complaining about the lights being out at the GF are you staying there? My gut says no. If you are not staying there and paying $400 plus a night why do you care? More importantly if it doesn't bother those that stay there why do you let it bother you?

If you are paying money on WDW property and it is visible, why shouldn't you care? A resort doesn't have to look good only for the guests that sleep there that night.

Because they can be seen from anywhere in the Magic Kingdom resort area. It's bad show, inexcusable , an quite frankly - embarrassing for a company the size of Disney to operate like this.
It is also disheartening to see people come to the defense of such behavior.

For the same reason nicer neighborhoods have HOA restrictions. Why should I have to look at your car on cinder blocks across the street?

To which I would reply - why should a bunch of busybodies be telling me what I can do with MY property that I paid for.

Up here in farm country neighborhoods are very nice, know all my neighbors by name don't even need to lock your doors yet there are 50 year old tractors on front lawns and yes even trucks being repaired in the driveways.

Just love the culture of conformity that the US is breeding. Yet in those sterile gated HOA communities which are so nice looking one needs locks deadbolts and security system engaged at all times and probably an armed security patrol at night...

Of the two which is the 'nicer' community???

So many generalities.

Why would there be a wait to upgrade to LED?

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
You have to be staying at BLT on points to visit Top of the World, right?
No you don't. When they first opened for a very brief period yes but the last several years they changed it to all DVC members. Me and DH have been up there 3 or 4 times in the last 3 years. :)

I think because the bungalows are basically grand villaish being they are so many points per night closer to what the Grand Villas cost pet night. I don't personally think it would make sense to put Grand Villas as well because of the bungalows being at that higher point range. Maybe they will in the future but I think the bungalows are good enough to take the place of Grand Villas there as I believe they sleep 8. I watched the promotion video a few weeks ago and they are beautiful! I just don't have enough points to stay in a bungalow but would love to. We have 220 so even banking and borrowing for the several years would have at the most at one time 660 and still not enough to stay more than a night or 2 there haha. Not willing to give up my longer vacations in 1/2 bedroom villas to stay in a bungalow but I really like that option being there. :)

Ok, I'll play along...

Because you signed a contract saying that you would do just that.

I grew up "up there in farm country". Front yard was 6 acres I mowed with an International 274, grandpa was a tobacco farmer, yada yada... Love the country living and agree it's a better quality of life than a gated community. Given that, I live in a neighborhood now. Biggest reason is land cost and my job's location. Wasn't very keen on having a 2 hour round trip commute each day. It's not a gated community, but is nicely kept and there's an HOA. Something that we were aware of and had to sign a contract on. Yeah, there are other neighborhoods around here that don't have HOA covenants, and it shows... Places I would rather not live in for numerous reasons (they're just trashy for the most part). The fact is, in more densely populated areas (ala Disney World), you're going to pay a premium to ensure clean and quality surroundings. Has nothing to do with a "culture or conformity". Has to do with wanting a nice place for you and your family to grow up in. So that the house less than 20' from you doesn't have 3' tall weeds and a yard full of junk cars with shutters hanging off the house and paint peeling. If you're at Disney though, no matter where you're staying, you're paying that premium to ensure that the property is kept to a higher standard.
