Room or Pool?

What is more important to you? We're still debating between Boardwalk and Beach Club. I want the Boardwalk for theme. I love it. Beach Club I'm not really interested in because we live in New England, and it's not a far stretch from home. We do want it for Stormalong Bay, however when it comes to the look of the rooms, I really dislike the look of the Beach Club's, while I very much like the look of the Boardwalk's.

So, not a Beach Club versus Boardwalk poll, but room versus pool. What is more important to you?

I go on a vacation and pay top dollar for entertainment and experiences..

The room is a utility - it's something you get to meet your needs and be pleasant at doing so. The pool is purely an entertainment feature. It serves no practical purpose.

I don't go on vacations for practicality - I got there for entertainment. Better entertainment and experiences all day long.. hence pool. Especially when we are talking about stormalong bay.

If I'm spending a lot of time in my room.. I could be doing that at home.

I'm sorry. :( We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at YC.

If its summer I would favor a better pool. We'd spend time there every day. It's important that you like your room, too, tho. What exactly is it you dislike about the Beach Club? Is it just the decor or is it something more?

The decor seems very dull from the pics I've seen. Also not crazy about the TV placement.

The room is more important to me, not that we spend much time in it but I want to be comfortable when we do. My kids don't swim much while we are there anyway so they would even pick the room over the pool.

Ah! Well, I like to be adventurous & try staying places I haven't before. We haven't stayed at the Beach Club, only the Yacht Club. Honestly, from the pics I've seen the overall feel & layout of the decor from Yacht, Beach, & Boardwalk are all pretty similar. There's differences but also a lot of similarities. Really, I'd think it would come down to the resort offerings & amenities that would be the best fit for ya. In summer months it's an easy call for me to say Beach Club because I know we will really enjoy SaB. And I know neither of my boys will go near the Boardwalk pool because of the clown especially at night. It's really what's the best fit for you. I wouldn't think the small differences in decor are all that significant to rule out a resort but that's me. Just like I'm sure a lot of people don't get my kids' aversion to the scary clown at the Boardwalk pool. LOL!

Room.

When at Disney, I spend most of my time at the parks & Downtown Disney. We try to visit the pool at least once, but that's not enough for me to pick a place based on the pool. I like a cozy room, where I can't hear my neighbors, that's clean, where I can relax. It doesn't have to be fancy, but I like a nice room. So I'd choose room over pool.

I liked the BW rooms better than the BC rooms at my stays in 2009 & 2011. I actually love the Luna Pool at the BW as well, so it works out great. :)

Have stayed at BWV and BCV and like them about equally.
I would lean toward BCV because of Stormalong Bay and the BCV quiet pool, so in choosing between those two, I would go with pool, though we enjoy the pool at BWV a lot as well.
No I don't have kids, but you can believe if I did they would not be sitting in front of a TV while at WDW.
I don't mean for that to sound as harsh as it does, but we have been going since 1982 and have made some 22 trips there and honestly sometimes the TV has not even been turned on for the whole week.
I know, us folks without kids always seem to know best how to raise them. My wife enjoys the parks, restaurants, downtown, resort hopping and all there is to do there as much as I do. She rarely watches TV either.
I would have to put TV placement way high on the trifle list.
Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip, TV and all.

We don't goto Florida to watch tv

Why do you feel is has to be one or the other? Obviously, nobody goes to Disney to watch TV, but when you're back in the room at night and the kids want to watch TV before bed, do you tell them "No - We're not here to watch TV."

I think the difference in the rooms is pretty big. BC has a much more toned down color scheme and seems more contemporary. BW uses more colors and seems more Victorian.

Here's Beach Club:

And here's Boardwalk:

I picked pool, I picked it beacuse we do use it alot. We now seem to travel at end of August so pool is necessity. We like to take afternoon swim breaks. When we booked this years trip we wanted FQ because kids loved the dragon slide. FQ was full so of our other moderate options we went with CSR strictly because we thought the kids would like that pool the best of the other options we had.

Room for me. I'm weird, I love hotel rooms. The nicer the better. I like to visit the pool, but if I don't make it, it's not a big lost. I agree I don't go to Disney to watch TV, but it's funny, I don't usually watch the news at home, but in Florida I'm glued to the local news. I find it fascinating. So my tv typically stays on either the Disney info channel or the local news. From what I understand Disney doesn't offer a whole lot of channels anyway.

No, Disney's channel selection is horrible. But again, we just like it for the kids at night. Plus, we bring a DVD player so the kids can watch a movie before bedtime.

They do sometimes.. But I would never let the 'tv placement' be the factor in picking rooms. Because its not what we are there to center our trip around

I didn't say it was the deciding factor. Someone asked me what I disliked about the rooms, and I told them. The TV was one of them.

Pool... a room is a room. I literally sleep and go back to shower and maybe take a nap. I prefer deluxe resorts, especially the Beach Club because it gives me the option of walking to EPCOT / DHS (essentially eliminating two bus routes and potential annoyances), has a pretty awesome pool and like 6 hotubs. I don't have kids so I am biased. I just think of a room as a room, it's nothing fancy to begin with regardless of where you stay.

Okay. Looking at the pics, the color palettes still don't differ all that strongly to me. The floors are darker with good amounts of blue in both. Both have dark wood headboards. Both have white bedding with pastel-y foot coverings. I believe the day beds at Beach are pastel-y blue, right? That part isn't in the picture. ;) The wall paper at BW has more color involved. A big difference is the furniture pieces that are the "dresser" and present the television. The larger armoire appearance of the BW's piece has a larger scale. The smaller, lowboy dresser with wall-mounted television of the BC doesn't have as heavy a feel and doesn't seem to take up as much space in the room (height wise). It leaves things more open to me.

Just noticed! That Beach Club room pic looks like one of the smaller rooms. See the slanted line on the upper left side of the pic? Also, the furniture layout is different than others I've seen. The smaller rooms are a little different. The majority of the rooms are more akin to what we had at the Yacht Club. That little desk was situated between the 2nd bed & the patio. Across from the desk & 2nd bed is where the daybed was. I'd look for more room pics of the Beach Club to give you a better idea of the layout.

The tv positioning difference from the BC to the BW looks like maybe a foot or 2 of in relation to the ends of the beds. If it was just 2 people watching tv it's better to have the tv centered at the foot of one bed sorta like the BW pic. The tv in the BC pic seems to be more "friendly" for viewers relaxing in both beds as it looks like it splits the difference a little better.

Again, the overall decor differences are personal preference. If you tend to favor a more Victorian decor then probably you will lean towards the BW. Myself, I have almost an aversion to Victorian or Victorian-like decor because it feels gawdy, busy, and icky to me. My brain always gravitates towards simpler lines, lighter tones, and more airy, open decor. Neither of these decors are anything I would have in my home because even the BC has a little too much going on for my liking. Of the 2 I like the BC better but that's me. You should do what you like.

Still, if it's hotter months and I know I'll be cooling off by the pool daily I'm going to choose the better pool even if it means I don't like the decor of the room so much. Balcony? If it's hot outside I wouldn't be out there more than a minute or two before I was running for relief. I had many a nice drink by Stormalong Bay when we stayed at the YC. Definitely would love to take up that perch again.

If you are worried about getting a balcony at BW vs. BC's juliets you could always put in a room request for ground floor so you have a patio or for a true balcony room. For our YC stay we had a room request for a daybed room so the boys wouldn't have to share a bed and fight with each other. When you get there, regardless of what resort it is, if you don't like your balcony or room location you can always go back to the front desk to ask for a room change. They'll do it if they can.
