Room location request, chances affected by check-in time?

Just a quick question... I have a room request in for a certain building.. actually gave the choice of two buildings at Port Orleans.
We won't be arriving until later in the evening (9:00ish) on our day of arrival... does that hurt your chances of getting your room request the later you check in since most have already checked in by that time? Or are the rooms selected beforehand?

Hope that makes sense! I do plan to do online check in as soon as it opens, but I don't believe that makes a difference in what room you're assigned.

TIA!

My understanding is that rooms are assigned in advance of your arrival, so it won't matter what time of day you check in.

True, but people at the front desk asking for their room to be moved to a different location than the one they were assigned can affect this at times.

In other words, if they don't like the room they were assigned, or they take it and then find something wrong with it, Disney will move them to a different room. This could possibly affect your room assignment in some cases.

While they may assign rooms ahead of time, I requested a specific room when we arrived and they moved us to it. I had originally requested a specific building when booking (through AAA) but when I changed my mind a few months later they never told the resort. So, I got the specific building and room that I wanted at the last minute. I realize that I was probably really lucky but if you requested the room and building beforehand and mention it again when checking in I would think you have a good chance. Good luck! Either way I'm sure you will have a fantastic vacation:)

As Joe stated, a late check in can effect your room request but a very specific set of circumstances have to happen for this to occur. From what I have seen, the biggest reasons requests are not honored are because they are either too specific (ie room 4387) or they require a room category upgrade (ie book standard room and request room next to the lake). In your particular situation staying at Port Orleans if you have booked a standard room and the building you requested is a preferred building the chances of that request being honored are somewhat slim.

Thanks for the help!!
Guess we'll see what happens. We're not looking to switch from standard to preferred. It won't be a huge deal not to get it though, but we are trying to get into one of the very newly refurbished rooms in Alligator Bayou for the new murphy bed and queen beds. Looks like 2 or 3 of the buildings should be completed when we arrive, so I requested the 2 building numbers I know will be done. We'll see. Guess it depends on if everyone else is up on this news, maybe I am hurting my chances by posting this. LOL

Thanks again!

Which building numbers did you request?

We checked in at 4 pm at Wilderness Lodge in May, having requested a room on a high floor. We were given a room on the first floor and when we mentioned our request we were told that as virtually everyone had already checked in there was no alternative. We were stuck with the frogs but the room was convenient!

I would suggest calling the hotel directly 1-2 days before your trip in order to reconfirm your request. They usually assign rooms during this time. The number for the hotel will be towards the bottom of your reservation confirmation. Hope that helps!!

These number goes to a call center, although it never hurts to make sure your requests are noted on the reservation.

The call center can handle 99% of all calls so that the front desk staff at each resort can do their jobs without answering phones. They will forward calls to the resort that do need direct resort interaction, such as a luggage transfer issue etc.

Just thought I would follow-up.. thanks everyone for the input!
We did get our request! YEY! Stayed a building 36 .. the room was so new you could smell the fresh, well, everything. LOL
When I checked in they had us in an older building, but I politely pointed out that we had a request and she happily changed us.

They completed building 38 while we were there. These new rooms are SOO nice! We loved our room. The new way they did the murphy bed is great and so wonderful having queens instead of the smaller ones... great nights sleep for all of us all week.
I have to thank http://www.portorleans.org for all the info, it's through that site that I new about the renovations and to ask about getting one of the rooms in the buildings that were completed.

Do they now have a Murphy bed and not a trundle bed?

Am I the only one who thinks that Murphy Bed looks really uncomfortable? Maybe it's just the photo, but it looks quite small and that mattress seems thin!

During our last trip we stayed at Wilderness Lodge. We requested a room on the 4th or 5th floor that opens to the lobby, on the north side. We checked in at 7:30a.m. and were assigned a room on the 4th floor on the south side. When we went into the room and looked out the balcony, we could only see a dirty roof top. Since we were staying for 9 nights, we weren't happy with the view at all. We went back to the desk and told them. We were told that the room they had originally assigned us was not ready yet so they tried to place us in a different room. We said we would happily wait for the original room which was on the 5th floor on the north side. Much better room. In this case it was good that we were early and had the option to switch but initially bad that we early as our room wasn't ready.
