Room Charging

I've got a question about room charges. How do you pay them off? I assume that when you check out, they present you the bill, and you pay them. It's not just attached to a credit card, right? And can you pay with multiple methods of payment?

I ask because I'm going with 3 other friends and I figured we'd just charge all our food to the room and split the cost later. So I'm hoping it works out that they present the bill, we'll split it, and each pay our portion with our credit cards or whatnot.

And also an extra question, if you request a wake-up call, is it something especially Disney? I'm wondering if I should schedule one for one morning (when we have a character breakfast to make), and one of them can pick it up to hear Mickey on the other end or something.

As far as room charges, I always leave a credit card so they can do the express checkout. They just put the room charges on the card and you can leave without going up to the front desk. Since I am always in a hurry to get to the parks right when they open, skipping the formal checkout process makes me HAPPY. I've never had a problem with them charging me incorrectly, either.

I really don't know if you can split up charges at check out. I have a feeling that may be a bit of a hassle, but that is just a 'feeling' and it is not based on fact.

In order to have room charging privileges, you must put a credit card down on the room at check-in. However, at any time, you can go down to the front desk before check-out and pay the balance on the room any way you wish.

The wake up call is uniquely disney, I remember the last time I think it was with stitch, but that was a while ago. I know they change it from time to time.

Or give them cash (to save taking it in the parks with you).

Either way - Disney aren't giving you credit on your room key - they're just charging your purchases to whatever payment method you give them at check-in

You all need to go to the front desk sometime before your last night in the room, like during the day when it's not busy, and arrange the method of your payment. You might even want to do it when you check in.

Normally you just find the final bill slipped under your door, or on the door , on your last morning and it's already charged as arranged. You don't have to go to the front desk and officially check out unless you need to change something.

The wake up calls used to be Mickey but I think they changed it for the worse. I always take my own travel alarm clock and use it for waking up.

Have fun.

each key is coded with a number, so you can seperate the charges at the end. If there is 3 of you there will be keys 1-3 and you will be able to track that way. As far as paying just like the others said.

Often I will arrive before my parents (who have a much higher limit than me) and what we'll often do is I give them my details and then my parents phone them up and either give them their card details or pay a certain amount of money in advance.

They take some form of surety at check-in, whether cash [I think, I've never actually put cash down] or a credit card. Then they apply that much cash credit to the room keys or a set amount if you're using a credit card [$500-Value resorts, $1,000-Moderaste and $1,500-Deluxe]. With cash, when you run out you can't charge any more. With credit, you can have them charge the current amount to your card and reset to the full limit again.

Alright.. I guess I feel like I still don't know if my plan will work.

We're all college-age, so I think the maximum credit limit any of us have is $500, and I don't want any of us to max out a credit card. (Staying at Saratoga, so we won't have the disney limit I believe)

I figured all food would get charged, and I'm estimating about $150 per person for food, so that's like $600 for the trip. Could we each put in like $100 when we check in, (preferably with a debit card, but cash would be fine too), and then pay the rest when we check out I guess? I would just have us each pay for our meals, but I'm hoping we'll split meals (we'll keep track of who owes what) to save money, especially at our ADR.

If not, I guess we could just have one or two people pay up front, and then sort it out amongst ourselves later.

I believe (thinks she's done it before) you can do that. They'll probably still need to hold one of your credit card details but you shouldn't get charged anything. (It's a standard hotel policy that they hold card details)

um...

I would just bring your credit cards or cash with you to the parks and pay that way. You can apply a credit card to allow express checkout WITHOUT having charging privledges, thats how we always do it. If not, you have to go at least the day before, if not more, to settle your bill, but having traveled with friends before, everyone taking care of themselves is MUCH easier than figuring it out afterwards.

Hi how are you doing? You sound excited about going to Disney.
Room Charges usually get billed on the credit card given at the conceirge at the front desk when you check in.
When you check on the charges are then put on that same card you used to check in. The same key card you use for you room, and also purchases around the disney area parks, stores and restaurants if you wish.
I think you should speak to the conceirge about the room charges and let her know that you want to split the bill later on, maybe they can then give you a bill and you and your friend can then split it before it gets charged to one card. When you do a wake up call all you have to do is press the button on your room phone for wake up call and put in the time you want to be woken the next morning the call will come and when someone picks it up a disney character or a song playing disney music will come on and then say time to wake up. Hope this helps, if you like you can email me any time ok.
Enjoy your time at disney. Tinkerchelli :sohappy::wave:

Hi!!

If you are staying at Saratoga Springs and you put a credit card on your room, you will have a $1500 limit. I learned on my last trip (oct 08) that the system can only store one credit card so you can not check in and provide multiple cards.

Here is what I suggest:

When you check in, one of you give a credit card on the room to allow you the priviledge of room charging. Each of you will be given a room key that will have charging priviledges. Each card will have a separate number. As you visit the parks, each of you MUST pay for your own items / food with your own room card.

YOU MUST go to the front desk the night before you check out (but you can also go other times before that if desired) and ask them to print you a statement that divides up the charges made to each room key.

They will give you three separate statements. At that time each individual can pay off their card's charges via what ever payment form they choose.

NOTE: If you do not go to the front desk the night before (BEFORE MIDNIGHT) the card used at check in will be charged the entire amount put on all three cards.

Hope that helps and have a GREAT time!!!

sounds easier to just have everyone pay cash for their own food expenses and what not. Or at the end of each day go to the front desk and seperate charges and pay off each day. This way you shouldn't come close to your $500 limit. because as we all know $500 can go quickly at the mouse, once we get all excited.

Charge to the room - I think it would be easier to pay the cash seperately as you go. seperating a bill at the end could get messy and confusing. Wake up calls are usually Stitch and Mickey together - once in a while they toss in another for you if you are staying for a long period.

Oh! So if I understand you right, I have to assign a card to the room (no prob, I understand and figured as much), but the actual charges aren't processed until you check out? I thought it was just sort of a proxy to charge your card.. that seems fine in that case.

Correct. The only way they will charge to the card before checkl out is if you reach your limit. In some cases you have to call and request that the account be charged to your card and then you start over, but I have had them do it automatically also.

To be safe maybe go in the middle of your stay and settle up (each of your friends included) and then you start over.

HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!!

This is probably standard at every other hotel in the USA, but it is NOT standard at WDW owned-and-operated resorts. Disney resorts have NO requirement that you give them a credit card for anything at any time ... period. They do not ask for credit card information for "incidentals" or "security" or anything like that.

Room charges can be backed up (in advance) by credit card, debit card (with VISA/MC logo), cash, travelers checks, Disney Dollars and Disney gift cards.

If you give a credit/debit card, they DO NOT put a hold on the amount of your room charge, and they do not pre-charge that amount ... in fact, thery don't even check to see if you have enough available credit.

A couple of other bits of info ...

Someone already mentioned that each room key has a unique number on it (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.). When you get a print-out (there's no NEED to do it every day), it very clearly notes the card number that made each separate purchase. The print-out lists each transaction (with the date and time and place and total amount charged) but not each item. For example, if Joe buys 4 t-shirts at a shop, the print out will say that he charged $80, but won't say anywhere that he charged 4 t-shirts.

Despite popular opinion, YOU CAN set up multiple room charges in a room ... in other words, 2 people in a room can set up separate, individual room charges at the same time. When doing this, you must use the word "SHARE," telling the front desk CM that you want to set up a "SHARE." If the front desk CM doesn't know about this, ask him/her to get a lead/manager and/or check the front desk manual. It most certainly CAN be done.
