Well, they have been promoting it in the park to a degree - the signage/marquee has been up on the theater facade for weeks. They're ripping the Pym stuff out of the queue area to ready it for guests lining up.

I expect they don't think it'll be something that will necessarily drive people to visit the park (unless it unexpectedly goes viral), but will be more additive to the experience as other shows are.

That said, some of us are ready for this...

Usually for a new stage show we’d get some rehearsal videos, sneak peaks at costumes, a Disney parks blog post talking about the detailed unnecessary backstory, something, anything.

I feel essential tasks such as preparing the queue area isn’t exactly promotion

I had to Google what this was. I know I lose major gay points (and during Pride month no less) for having very little understanding of musical theater, but I had absolutely no idea what this thing was. I honestly assumed it was a riff on Rogers & Hammerstein (earning one gay point back with that reference), but I guess it's not?

It's a Marvel thing? Okay.

Is this supposed to be like previous Hyperion shows in that it's a full 45 to 55 minute long experience with a full cast and using all the bells and whistles the Hyperion facility can throw at it? Or is this more of a DHS schmaltzy theme park show type thing that is I8 minutes long and has a limited cast and could be shown in an outdoor amphitheater if needed?

I'm still kind of baffled by this concept. And the lack of buzz this close to opening at the Hyperion is... odd.

The cynic in me thinks they’re hoping for this limited run show to fail, to once and for all prove guests have no interest in well produced, expensive productions in a theme park. We’re heading into the busy summer season with a huge entertainment draw offline, yet we haven’t heard a peep about this?

Return the queue to a dining area, no actors and ushers and backstage personal to pay, it could be a win-win for Disney.

Hopefully the cynic in me is very wrong

It's rumored to be about 30 minutes, and a temporary run. So definitely not Aladdin or Frozen.

It originated as a scene in the Hawkeye Disney+ show, and was intended as a loving parody of Broadway.

Extending a 4 minute song that was intended to be a one off joke in a TV show to a 30 minute stage production will be interesting, especially because Disneyland Entertainment has to come up with this stuff mostly from scratch.

I talked to some people who were heavily involved in the production of Frozen: Live at the Hyperion, and the consensus was that while they're glad the space will finally be used again, they wish it was for something with more substance.

As expected, they consider it an additive experience to your day rather than a headliner. It was briefly mentioned today in the Disney Parks Blog as one of the things to do this summer at DCA:

For a limited-time engagement beginning June 30, 2023, “Rogers: The Musical” will tell the tale of Steve Rogers (or as you may know him better, Captain America) in an all-new, one-act musical theater production. Performed in the famed Hyperion Theater, the show will feature five original songs, appearances by select members of the Avengers and more.

Here are some details on a Virtual Queue that will be used for Rogers: The Musical - Disney says the Virtual Queue is not required, but is highly recommended.

“Rogers: The Musical” is scheduled to perform several times per day, Tuesday through Saturday most weeks during its limited-time engagement, June 30-Aug. 31, 2023. You’ll be able to access viewing areas for “Rogers: The Musical” through a virtual queue system* available only via the Disneyland app.**

Each day that “Rogers: The Musical” is performing, distribution for the complimentary virtual queue will begin at 10:30 a.m. PT for the first two show times of the day and 2 p.m. PT for the remaining show times of the day.

How-to details on the virtual queue system are available at Disneyland.com. Joining the virtual queue is not required to view “Rogers: The Musical,” but it is highly recommended. If the virtual queue reaches capacity, you can check in at the Hyperion Theater before “Rogers: The Musical” begins for any walk-up viewing options.

Here's what the Disneyland website says for the Rogers: The Musical Virtual Queue.

Rogers: The Musical

Follow these important guidelines to join the virtual queue and experience this all-new, one-act live theater production that tells the amazing story of Steve Rogers (Captain America) at the Hyperion Theater in Hollywood Land:
  • Every day that Rogers: The Musical is performing, distribution for the virtual queue will begin at 10:30 AM Pacific Time for the first 2 showtimes of the day and at 2:00 PM Pacific Time for the remaining afternoon showtimes.
  • If a Guest gets into a virtual queue, they will not be able to choose which showtime they would like to have. Instead, they will be automatically given one.
  • There is limited capacity for each show. After attempting to join the virtual queue, Guests will be directed to a screen which shows whether or not they are added to the queue.
  • Once a Guest joins the virtual queue, they will be called back to the Hyperion Theater when the physical queue is ready to open, approximately 30 to 45 minutes before showtime.
  • To access the virtual queue, Guests must have entered Disney California Adventure Park with a one-park ticket or Park Hopper ticket, or Disneyland Park with a Park Hopper ticket.
Joining the virtual queue is not required to view this theatrical production—but it is highly recommended. Additional viewing for each performance may be available via a standby queue on a first-come, first-served basis, if capacity allows.

I'm curious to see how this turns out.

In Hawkeye the brief clip was intentionally cheesy and over the top bad.

Will they change the tone so it still has that parody element but isn't just a 30-minute cringe fest?

It strikes me as a tough challenge to make a show that is a parody, somewhat intentionally bad, but not so much that it wears out it's welcome over 30+ minutes.

$29 dollars for guaranteed / better seats, a drink, and a snack isn't horrible. But it's only a 30 minute show... and I can't imagine it's a spectacle like Aladdin or Frozen....
