News Rogers the Musical coming to the Hyperion Theater

Oh, shoot. It looks like the ushers and the Dockers-clad managers at the Hyperion aren't something we wanted to return to...

I showed up 50 minutes ahead to find - several hundred of us being literally yelled at by multiple Cast Members to stand back from the theater and stay away "until you get your barcode".....

Again - the show was great and left a big smile on my face. The queue process is GARBAGE and left a terrible aftertaste and ill will so easily avoided by NUMBERING THE FREAKING BOARDING GROUPS instead of making us feel like crap while everyone except us was let in. #thanksdisneyopsteam

Thank you for your review and information. Such a shame that whatever they do inside that huge, lavish theater, the CM's running the usher operation can easily ruin it. That whole thing sounds like a nightmare.

And when CM's start yelling at "guests" (do they even still call them that?) it's just a fast downward spiral. Don't yell at me, I paid to be here and I'm following the instructions your own system gave me.

When theater ushers are yelling repeatedly "DO NOT APPROACH UNTIL YOU GET YOUR BARCODE!!!" it's a complete failure of hospitality management and the TDA execs should be ashamed of themselves. That's assuming (and laugh when you read this) that the TDA execs actually cared to go see how the Hyperion seating/usher operation was going. 🤣

And again, you are forced to stare at your phone while you pay big bucks to go to Disneyland. Who is running this place???

I don't think we should blame the CM's, they are just running the queue how they've been told.

This failing falls squarely on management, who have made this more complicated than needed. I was surprised they allowed the premium experience add-on to be a basic queue, first come first serve.

Yet the CM's will take the brunt of the anger.

I heard someone say that part of the reason they are shut down Sunday and Monday is they only have one cast (assuming with some understudies or standbys??).

So I do think this is likely very temporary.

The question is, what big permanent show do we all want next?
I've watched some form of livestream everyday the show has been on, and I'm pretty sure it's been the same old Cap, Cap, Fury, Starkettes, and Peggy actors/actresses (and likewise for background dancers/singers).

Usually they would rotate every couple days or something like at Disney's other shows at DL and WDW, but haven't seen anything of that yet. So maybe it's true they only have "one cast", with a standby if someone gets sick or is out temporarily.

Oh, I very much agree. These CM's are badly trained and poorly managed. That doesn't absolve them of all guilt for yelling and barking orders at "guests", but it at least deflects blame.

The moment a CM starts bellowing at "guests" a Dockers-clad manager should step in and stop that immediately. Of course, those park managers don't bother any more, they just let their CM's yell and bellow while doing that passive-aggressive thing where they keep their glazed eye contact in the middle distance about 5 feet over everyone's heads to avoid human interaction.

There's a public address system for that weird Hyperion courtyard waiting area, as I remember it being used for Frozen. Why didn't management train CM's to use the PA system to communicate instead of yelling and barking about bar codes?

This is a type of failure that happens too often at Disneyland in the recent past;
  • The failure starts at the top with TDA execs who don't use their own parks products (like a paying guest does) and don't understand how it all works. They obviously don't know how the App works, or in this case doesn't work. Leadership Failure.
  • Then the failure continues with the once-vaunted "Disney University" training department who is obviously not training these front line CM's well at all. Does Disney U even still exist? And if so, is it run solely by AI programs and clueless cubicle drones?
  • The failure then trickles down to the front line management in the parks. They can't hide in TDA, they have to (or at least should be) out there in the park supervising the operation and managing their CM's. Where were they? Or do they think that yelling and barking about bar codes to tourists who have paid a huge amount of money for their Disneyland vacation is acceptable?
  • And who in heck designed it this way? I have to think the park management signed off on this. Why?
All that said, at some point it should kick in with CM's that perhaps yelling and barking orders is not polite, nor is it gracious, nor does it have anything to do with the word "hospitality". A final failure.

I did find one video where one of the trio had a different actor in place, but the rest of the cast seemed to be the same.

Do you have a link to that? Now I'm intrigued.

Side note, End of the Line is so underrated imo. It's like the best song in the entire musical for me lol. Kinda surprising since I was expecting Save the City to top everything, which comes in 2nd in for me.

It was absolutely a management failure. And there were a lot of managers out there also yelling at the guests to stand back and go away until we had a magical barcode.

There's at least one standby Cap (or maybe they double-cast Cap since his role is the most vocally demanding? It was unclear based on the second actor's TikTok, but I'm inclined to believe standby as I've never seen him perform ever) and there's a handful of swings (including a wheelchair user, whom Disney had highlighted in some media).

I love End of the Line! Agreed it's the best song and one that I catch myself humming to a lot. It's equal parts hokey and endearing and I just genuinely love how sincere it is.

Cripes. 🥴

As I assumed, it's a total failure of management and training that starts at the very top and works its way down to the Dockers-clad ranks in the parks. I doubt most of those management types even know that they work in the "hospitality" industry, or could even define what the word "hospitality" means.

If I tried to valet my car at the Rancho Mirage Ritz-Carlton using the Bonvoy App this October and some kid in a polyester tunic started yelling at me to "STAY BACK FROM THE PODIUM UNTIL YOU HAVE A BARCODE!!!" I would instantly become a new Four Seasons customer.

I just checked Disneyland.com to see what it tells me about how to get in to see the Rogers show at the Hyperion.

Here's the official instructions for "guests" to see this show at this theme park, prior to being barked at by CM's to "wait for your barcode!". The word "barcode" is a word that is never used in any of this communication.

Rogers: The Musical
Follow these important guidelines to join the virtual queue and experience this all-new, one-act live theater production that tells the amazing story of Steve Rogers (Captain America) at the Hyperion Theater in Hollywood Land:
  • Every day that Rogers: The Musical is performing, distribution for the virtual queue will begin at 10:30 AM Pacific Time for the first 2 showtimes of the day and at 2:00 PM Pacific Time for the remaining afternoon showtimes.
  • If a Guest gets into a virtual queue, they will not be able to choose which showtime they would like to have. Instead, they will be automatically given one.
  • There is limited capacity for each show. After attempting to join the virtual queue, Guests will be directed to a screen which shows whether or not they are added to the queue.
  • Once a Guest joins the virtual queue, they will be called back to the Hyperion Theater when the physical queue is ready to open, approximately 30 to 45 minutes before showtime.
  • To access the virtual queue, Guests must have entered Disney California Adventure Park with a one-park ticket or Park Hopper ticket, or Disneyland Park with a Park Hopper ticket.
Joining the virtual queue is not required to view this theatrical production—but it is highly recommended. Additional viewing for each performance may be available via a standby queue on a first-come, first-served basis, if capacity allows.

When the virtual queue is in use for an attraction or experience that you would like to enjoy, here’s how it works:

Plan Ahead — Before Your Visit
Make sure you have the Disneyland app, with notifications enabled so you receive important updates about the virtual queue—including callback details and daily distribution times.

Select one member of your party to access the virtual queue to check for an available boarding group for everyone in your party. If multiple people in your party try to join the virtual queue simultaneously, that may inhibit your ability to join a group.

Get Ready to Join the Virtual Queue!
On the day of your visit, you may have the opportunity to join the virtual queue at daily distribution times, which are subject to change or cancellation as availability allows. Distribution schedules will be available in the Disneyland app.

Follow these steps to join the virtual queue:

  • Step 1 – Check Availability: Log in to the Disneyland app at one of the distribution times. Select “Virtual Queues” on the home screen to view the current status and next steps for joining a virtual queue. The app will indicate when there is no availability for a specific distribution time, or if a backup group is available.
  • Step 2 – Enroll Your Group: As long as your Disney account is linked to your group's park tickets, and everyone has valid admission and park reservations for the park you will visit, you can enroll everyone in the virtual queue at the same time (subject to availability).
  • Step 3 – Enjoy the Experience: If your boarding group is called to return, you’ll receive a notification via the Disneyland app. Then, head over to the entrance of the experience within your designated return window.
Please be aware that:
  • Guests with a Magic Key pass or Park Hopper ticket, who will start their day at the other park, may begin crossing over between the parks at 11:00 AM to redeem their boarding group. The ability to visit a park is subject to the park’s capacity limitations, and a boarding group does not guarantee park admission.
  • Joining the virtual queue does not guarantee the ability to participate in the experience.
  • In order to give as many Guests as possible the opportunity to join the queue, each Guest can enter the virtual queue for a given experience no more than once per day, subject to availability.
  • Boarding groups for a virtual queue are limited, subject to availability, and are not guaranteed. Not all boarding groups may be called to return, based on availability of the experience. Also, shows might be cancelled.
  • If more than one attraction is using a virtual queue, Guests will need to enter those virtual queues one at a time. But Guests may enter a virtual queue for an attraction and one for entertainment or 2 entertainment offerings at the same time.

You're on vacation, relax and have fun!

Remember the old commercial jingle... "Be our Guest, put our magic to the test! Bring a heart that's full of wonder, and let Disney do the rest! The service here is never second best!"

My how times have changed... "WAIT FOR YOUR BARCODE! Go somewhere else until the App tells you to approach! BARCODES ONLY!"

I was out of the office yesterday and I went to one of my favorites park to see this great production!

Ever since I took over for Bob #2 I got rid of a lot of my perks of being CEO. I went to the 5:30 showing and I didn’t have a virtual queue so I had to do the good ole standby.

Super easy process yesterday arrived at 5:00 just when they were starting to queue up everyone in the three lines. Picked orchestra and I was in the second row on stage right!
