Rock Your Disney Side - 24 hour character party at Magic Kingdom

I think they did a really good job. They had a lot of offerings.

I personally was disappointed that all of the villains were out late at night (I understand stretching the offerings out, and the idea of the villains coming out at night) and that the pre-parade of them was at 10:45 (I just couldn't last because I had a drive home ... bad planning on my part ...).

But it seemed to be well run, lots of cast members (and all of them seemed to be in great spirits). Saw all three ferryboats in use, etc.

Good event, with a nice character turnout, but at the same time, most of those shouldn't even be considered 'rare'. I agree with that.

Yes I'm happy they were there, and yes I'm happy they ran long sets.

I'm just annoyed that anything that is considered "rare" these days is something that we used to have on a regular basis and paid less money for.

If you want rare? Bring me treasure planet characters. Bring me the Kingdom hearts characters that used to be out of Halloween parties. Bring me Roger rabbit. Bring out the hunchback of Notre Dame characters. Bring me out Carl from Up.

Instead it's the same old song and dance…

That being said, you would think the Disney would start doing something with the ridiculous popularity of the villains. One would hope so.
Judge Claude Frollo was out during the 24 hour event. Got a picture with him around 5am.

I would have loved to see Oswald and King Mickey (from kingdom hearts)

Well, you can always fly to Tokyo to see Oswald ;) It's nice to see the other parks use some "rare" characters regularly. Paris frequently uses Clarice, I saw a recent video from Tokyo Disneyland and they still use the Three Little Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf .... sigh. The other parks are becoming so much more appealing. I can't get over how huge Tokyo's parks seem to be. Anyway ....

But you understand the difference between a real character because the movies over 20 years old versus a rare character because they stopped scheduling them. I mean the cricket is rare now because of that. He didn't used to be.

Clarisse, she is to come out as a spare at studios and Epcot.

I'm surprised Kermit and piggy were not out. Of course I haven't seen them since July 4, 2004 or in DSMC

I do recall one time seeing a photo of her at the Studios but I assumed it had been quite a while ago.

I never seem to be in the right spot to see anyone considered 'rare' so unless they are listed regularly, I don't personally count them as 'out regularly', I guess.

Not that I wait in lines to meet them but I do like to take pictures of the characters, or at least see them, because so many of them are 'rare' now.

I have a family movie (Super 8 mm!) of us watching the daytime parade in the '70s, and the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf are there, along with Snow White and all Seven Dwarfs... and all are WALKING the parade route and interacting with the crowd. They were NOT on floats. A great memory.

No mirror castle float I hope?

Went for most of the day. Flew in Friday at 3am(flight delay) went to park at 7am we dressed in costume went all day(fun to dress up as the interactions/comments from CM's, Characters and guests kept us going all day) til 4am. Crowds were not bad all day til the parks overflowed at around 9-10 pm from then on the lines and crowd got bad and that was why we left then. Much busier at 3am than 3pm. Was a fun day just taking our time going around the park seeing everything rides, parades, shows etc.. just paced it out and then was in DHS for Star wars by 9 the next day! not sure where the energy came from but was just keeping a pace and it was a FUN day especially if you just take it light and have fun...its Disney after all! so made 20-21 of the 24 hours...crazy but would do it again but with more sleep to start!

I am not sure what you are talking about. Was that a '70s parade fixture?

But, no, the main thing that I remember from that parade is the charactars walking and interacting with us. And all of that is on the film.

I'm not sure how that speaks towards your point about 5hr lines tho.

The Judge was out... doesn't Carl fail your own '10yr comment' made in another post since Up had a permanent M&G at DHS for quite awhile. They have to pick characters they think people want to see too.. not just the characters the 'bucket list' people want to mark off as having seen.

The thing with the characters is... it's a double edged sword. Fans want to see the variety, but there are practical limits to how many characters should be available day to day, and Disney needs to satisfy the 'everyday' visitors too wanting to see the fab 5, etc. In theory why not create a regular location that is rotating the less common characters? Here is where the double edge comes in... the scarcity of different characters plays to Disney's advantage. When there is pent up demand, now it's something Disney can monetize.

As a savvy lady might say... why give it away for free?

I would like to see more variety in the parks - but I don't think Disney deserves criticism for what they did put out there this time.

Heck at this rate, I bet Disney could operate an offsite M&G and charge admission just for that! The waits and efforts people willing to put into M&Gs blows my mind. Charge $15 a head, open a location in a Mall, and put 3 characters online playing 14hrs a day. It prints money!

The mirrored princess float that was a staple at the end of the parade for the past 10 years.

I would LOVE to attend one of these. I'm certain that the next day I would be very tired, but I'm betting the experience would be totally worth it.

I'd like to book a trip around one of these 24 hour events. Any idea when the next one is planned?

We bailed at 3AM. I couldn't convince my daughter that it was only 3 more hours until sunrise, even after taking a nap on the "carpet" in front of the screen showing The Incredibles. But we will be going next year - if they have one again (hear that Disney?) and plan better - rent a locker at the entrance and stuff some pillows and blankets in it to use later. Seeing the sun rise over the Castle is still on my bucket list...

We made it all 24 hours. We took a taxi to the contemporary, were front in center for the welcome show, just walked around main street and the hub for awhile just enjoying being there at dawn. I proposed in the rose garden at about 6:30-6:45 with the first sun getting to the castle. We rode 7DMT three times throughout the 24 hours. We were the last table at CRT and were there until almost 1 am (it didn't change into a pumpkin at midnight). We watched the kiss goodnight and went back to Port Orleans for a engagement photo session at 8 am. All-in-all, an amazing experience and will always be some of my favorite Disney memories. I think the experience can be what you make of it. We took it easy and didn't push ourselves to do every single thing.
