I consider myself a middle-grounder, I'm just a little afraid to talk about more opinionated topics around here honestly so I keep the opinions mostly to myself.

Definitely a middle-grounder here as well, though depending on the crowd you'll find me swaying one way or another (here I tend to be on the more optimistic end of the spectrum haha). I try my hardest to see everything through the lens of reality without getting too swept up in emotion, which is hard to do being a Disneyland fan.

Whether you love it or hate it, you have to admit the hysteria is definitely there on both ends of the spectrum. I think both sides would benefit from realizing there is a middle ground. And just because someone is or isn't dreading an upcoming change, there really doesn't need to be so much animosity or an "us vs them" mentality. Sometimes I feel like being excited about something that's coming to a Disney park is not accepted or tolerated on Disney discussion boards.

I honestly feel the true hysteria end of the spectrum can be counted on one hand and most of them are simply trolling. Someone having a strong opinion is just that whether it is positive or negative. I don't find that living outside reality which is so often the reaction to a strong opinion.

I feel the board is overwhelmingly positive towards Disney and there is plenty of excitement for everything from large scale projects like Star Wars land to some new park bench. Think about that. We applaud park benches around here. There is plenty of acceptance for being excited about Disney but it seems like at times some people feel threatened if there is a critical opinion on Disney.

I think Star Wars land will look great. I simply think it is being placed in the wrong spot, yet for that pretty middle ground POV it has been assumed that I hate Star Wars and that I don't live in reality. So the middle ground gets attacked as well. You shouldn't be attacked for being excited about something, but I also should not be attacked for having a more critical viewpoint.

Fair enough.

Problem is, like in most things, that middle grounders are less likely to post.

That and the middle grounders just kind of go unnoticed because what we say is not polarizing enough. A lot of my posts don't really generate any conversation because I tend to see both sides of the argument and my opinion usually lies somewhere near the middle. Which doesn't really get people excited or upset either.

Disney fans are a diverse bunch with a variety of opinions and we should all respect that. Lately I've been leaning more towards giving Disney praise because I'm genuinely impressed with most of the work the company is doing at the resorts.

I'm not sure if I'm in the middle or not, but I have realistic expectations, form my own opinions and I'm not moved by emotional Disney blog posts. If something stinks I'll say so, and I'm not ashamed to heap praise on Disney when I have a positive reaction to something that's new or on the drawing boards. I'm also the sort of fan who doesn't revere everything Walt did at Disneyland and I tend to get excited when Disney announces grand new projects.

The key to any of these things in the theme park universe is quality. When the quality is high, ultimately that has the ability to bypass any disassociation that anyone may have to a particular theme or franchise.

Recent examples of this are the universally praised (pun intended): Wizarding Worlds of Harry Potter and Carsland.

Both can be appreciated without any specific connection to either franchise.

In fact, I use my own personal LOATHING of the Cars franchise as an example of how exemplary Carsland is. I HATE with a passion the Cars universe (I think it's just stupid and doesn't make a bit of sense... why do the cars have doors and seats if there are no humans in its universe); but, I'll go to the alter and proclaim my love of Carsland. It's phenomenal. Imagineering at its finest and the Cadillac Range and Ornament Valley are majestic.

Star Wars Land when completed will be the same (just without the singularly huge panoramic vista - it will more of a vertical space like Diagon Alley).

Perfect example. I still detest the emphasis on franchises at Disney parks, but the excellent execution of storytelling on display at WWoHP and Cars Land, not to mention their overwhelming popularity, caused me to rethink my opinion. Quality + IP is an undeniable recipe for success in the theme park business these days, and unfortunately that means that older features and attractions will occasionally have to give way to new programming that has more appeal with today's customers.

Despite rumors, I REALLY don't see the River being as dramatically altered as people are claiming. To physically move that much earth, realign the route, and relocate/plant greenery for only a few extra yards doesn't seem that feasible. Looking at the concept art, it really looks like this new waterfront is being made to block out the view of Star Wars Land's towering mountain ranges and show buildings from the river. And mostly to accommodate the necessary new train route. Just my two cents.

I was at the park last night and I can say that one positive that has come from all of these closures for SWL is that NOS Is really pleasant at night again. There was no sea of strollers. I could stretch my arms without smacking anyone in the face and the lit up Mark Twain docked at Fowlers does a lot for the ambiance too.

I felt like all the closures really congested the rest of the park, but I was also having serious anxiety attacks. Everyone, go to Tomorrowland and watch the fog machine on the radar thing, please. I'll be anywhere else in the park!

Yea during the day you could really feel the congestion from all of the closures. Saturday night on the west side of the park was very pleasant though.

MiceChat gave some good info in their update:

Here is a map showing what the new expansion and the new train path. If this map is true, it doesn't cut off nearly as much as the river as I thought it would and still has some bends in it.

It's interesting that micechat wants to put the train so close to people walking on big thunder trail from Fantasyland.

It's hard for me to remember what the before looked like, but it doesn't appear to take off much of Tom Sawyer Island does it?

Go check out the Micechat article Constance, on their website these maps have nifty slider features where you can slide back and forth to see the Before and After. It really helps you see how it's going to work, and how little it does to the rest of the park. http://micechat.com/118668-disneyland-phantom-menace/

But get ready to walk a ways from your parking spot!

The more I see the more excited i get. I'm so in the fence about it though. I look forward to the land and the way they describe it makes me so excited, but then I hate seeing the river being cut and just wish they would have waited and built it elsewhere.
